Very nice staff, helpful and accommodating. We had originally booked their last site for the night which was a back-in but once we arrived we were asked if we'd prefer a pull-through that did not have sewer since one had become available. We accepted since we were only stopping for the night. Very few parks will be that helpful. Park is beautiful and well maintained. We would definitely return when passing through the area and stay longer to take advantage of the rich history of the area. We camped at Walnut Hills Campground (formerly Staunton / Walnut Hills KOA) in a Motorhome.

We stopped at this campground because the weather had turned bad during our drive north, so we decided to stop early. The campground was a pleasant surprise. Friendly staff, beautiful grounds, and a clean restroom and good showers with hot water. Very pet friendly, with a nice dog park, and a lot of nice places to walk. The sites are spacious. We will definitely stay here in the future. We camped at Walnut Hills Campground (formerly Staunton / Walnut Hills KOA) in a Motorhome.

Friendly staff and well kept park. Good cable & the best WiFi we have found at a park. We stayed at a site around the lake. They are nice sites but pretty close. Your neighbor's fire ring is practically behind your rig. Very nice, clean & reasonable laundry facilities. The one thing we didn't like was all the smelly duck poop. It's everywhere around the lake sites. Next time we'll request a site away from the lake. We camped at Walnut Hills Campground (formerly Staunton / Walnut Hills KOA) in a Travel Trailer.

We chose this campground due to having heard about it favorably when the owner was interviewed on a popular RV'ing podcast, and are glad we did. Lots of unique areas to this spread out campground ranging from down in a valley with a pond and streams, to up the top of a fairly big hill (where we were) with good views across the valley and lower campground. Had good Verizon cell service at top of hill, and strong campground Wifi, which was good most of time, but sometimes unstable. Packed gravel roads and sites in park, and most sites looked pretty level, although some on terraced hillsides (107-111) appeared to be a challenge to back into, but they were all full. Interior roads somewhat windy and narrow, but saw plenty of big rigs manage to navigate them. Nice and very clean bathroom, shower, and laundry facilities in building serving sites at top of hill. Did not check out the camp store. Overall, park very clean and well maintained, and we would definitely stay again if in area. We camped at Walnut Hills Campground (formerly Staunton / Walnut Hills KOA) in a Fifth Wheel.

Nearby Staunton is great place to tour historic district, find craft breweries, catch a play, etc. We were excited to see campground had disc golf...until we saw the 9-hole course. You had better be able to throw perfectly straight, or else it's bye bye disc and hello poison ivy!

When I called to make reservations, I had a friendly voice on the other end of the phone. We knew we would be getting into the park after hours, but no problem, our reservation, with a map was marked as to where our site was located, was left for us. We have camped here before, and have always been pleased. I love all the new landscaping, and the large dog park. Definitely will be back! A little slice of heaven hidden in one of the most beautiful valleys in the foothills of the Shenandoah Mountains. The owner is as personable a person as you'll find. He and his team make you feel right at home as soon as you arrive. The campground scenery is perfect and we were here when the trees are still bare. A number of small streams wind their way through the park and enter and leave the central lake. You can have just about any size and style of campsite throughout the property. One section within the CG is a series of pull throughs which are long but have no sewer - mostly for travelers of one or two nights. The CG provides a great map layout of the campground, TV channels and local vendors. Well equipped on site store. Peaceful, quiet and less than a mile off the interstate. Rolling hills block the sound of traffic. We camped at Walnut Hills Campground (formerly Staunton / Walnut Hills KOA) in a Motorhome.

Do not usually stay at KOA because of the high cost bit we were here only as a layover...our site did not have sewer so price was good. Sites large and campground very nicely laid out. Close to Staunton and historic sites. Excellent cable and Wifi. We camped at Walnut Hills Campground (formerly Staunton / Walnut Hills KOA) in a Motorhome.

Very nice location. Friendly staff who were very accommodating. The only improvement is that that there could be more toilets and showers for the size of the campground. Of course, I realize, that is easier said than done and very costly. During busy times, some waiting was required. Overall, a great campground and we will return. Love to see all the great reviews on this site. I've stayed at this campground since the mid 90's through 2-3 owners and it only improves each time I go. They have virtually no employee turnover, an onsite owner who knows everything that goes on and wonderful happy employees. Some people complain about very silly things, after 25 years in business for myself I have learned its impossible to keep everyone happy. We need not forget it's their property, not ours, we are all GUESTS, act accordingly and people won't be snippy with you. I've never experienced anything but kindness from every single person working at Walnut Hills, they are AWESOME!!!! Until the day comes I no longer have a camper I will travel the 10 hour round trip 2-3 times a year to go to Walnut Hills, we LOVE THAT PLACE!!! -Rob, Ricky & Denise Rogers from Tennessee. Very large park in hills. We were up on top with a great view of park, pond and surrounding hills. Had a back-in with wooden patio. They had a kids parade for Halloween and then kids came around and trick or treated for candy. It was great. Very spacious site where we were. Would definity come back again-Best KOA I have ever been in. We camped at Walnut Hills Campground (formerly Staunton / Walnut Hills KOA) in a Travel Trailer.

Overall Rating:

This is an interesting KOA, and in many ways was the best we've ever visited. We can say with complete confidence that the site we had was the best we've ever had at a KOA. There are three sections in this campground, each very different. The first section is in a valley around their "lake" (really a shallow man-made pond), and has sites facing the water or the creek that runs into it. Our site was in this part of the campground. The site is huge for a KOA and is level with the water. The electrical box was pretty far away from our site. We had to extend our power cord its entire length. Most of the other lake sites have a steep hill between them and the water and are very close to the neighbors. The second loop at the campground is up the hill, and is in fairly thick woods. If you like more shade and some possible mountain views, that's the place to be, but we noticed that it can be quite claustrophobic when full (as it was on this particular weekend). The third section is made up of tent camping sites and rustic cabins, and felt VERY much like a state park. The facilities were convenient and, while the showers and toilet stalls were VERY small, they were reasonably clean. We would absolutely visit this KOA again if we're in the area, but would be very disappointed if we couldn't get site 35. We camped at Walnut Hills Campground (formerly Staunton / Walnut Hills KOA) in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

The campground is a few miles from I-81, so road noise isn't a problem, but it's only 10 minutes from a number of stores and only 15 minutes from downtown Staunton. We had a good dinner at Kathy's Restaurant, a local diner.

The campground is close to the Interstate but we never heard any highway noise. The layout is very unique and makes good use of the terrain. Our site was on the hill overlooking most of the campground and the lake. We had a spacious, level full hookup site. The ducks and occasional heron make one realize he/she is truly out in the country. The restrooms were immaculate and obviously cleaned frequently. The campstore appeared well-stocked. We would and will visit again. We camped at Walnut Hills Campground (formerly Staunton / Walnut Hills KOA) in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Staunton is near Lexington, VA - home of Washington & Lee University and Virginia Military Institute. Be sure to take a carriage ride around town. The Natural Bridge State Park is also nearby and is a great place to visit - once owned by Thomas Jefferson. Near the State Park is an animal park where you can either drive through or take a wagon ride. Stop at the Visitors Center in Staunton for information on historical sites.

The nicest KOA at which we have stayed. Was sad that we were only over-nighting. This is a large and spread-out campground with sites in front, in back near and on a pond, and up the hill in woods. Spotless grounds with lots of open grass near the pond. Far enough off I81 to eliminate highway noise. Hwy 340 is actually a good cut-off if you are going I81 to I64 or vice-versa. Their cable is recently-expanded and includes such staples as CNN and Fox News. We camped at Walnut Hills Campground (formerly Staunton / Walnut Hills KOA) in a Fifth Wheel.
