Small but very pretty park about 15 mi from Interstate and conveniences. Paved sites that back up to trees, although some are close to roadway. You may hear some traffic noises early in the morning but didn't bother us. About half of the sites seem to be water/electric and rest are rustic. Bath houses but no showers, modest but clean. Cell reception is nonexistent. No cable TV but we saw some satellite dishes. No WiFi either, although description says there is. We contacted Forest Service who said the RV sites are reserved by going to Reserve America and some of the rustic sites are on there too, I think. Rest are first-come basis. If you don't have a reservation you can check with the camp host. No guarantees, but when we were there it was not completely full. Says big rigs not suitable, but I would add that any rig over the 35 ft range would have issues. All sites are back-in. They do have a separate driveway for your vehicle, however. It is a very quiet, peaceful place with a pretty creek running alongside and some trails running through it. No fancy stuff, just a back to nature kind of place. We camped at Raccoon Branch Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

The little town of Sugar Grove is closest, about 5-6 mi. Only a couple of gas station/convenience stores there. No grocery store or restaurants. Nearest grocery is in Marion, about 15 mi away. They have fast food and Walmart if you get desperate.

Overall Rating:

The park is small, quiet, clean, and well laid out. Nicely shaded with easy access to towns, highways, attractions. A famous hiking trail is accessible directly from the campground. The camp host is very helpful and knowledgeable; he is also very watchful, in a quiet, non-intrusive way. I stayed about 10 days...hated to leave. Oh! There is NO TV or cell reception, but has great Internet! I can't wait to return. The camp host helps pick the best site for you & your rig. They are not all level, but very manageable. We camped at Raccoon Branch Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Previous post was correct except you can use the showers at the nearby Hurricane Campground, no charge, if you are staying at another forest service park. We camped at Raccoon Branch Campground in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

This is a small campground in Jefferson National Forest. It is fine for hiking, trout fishing, or just to relax, not much else around. Our rate was with the Senior Pass. Our site, as was most, was unlevel in both directions, I used two complete sets of Lynx leveler blocks, (20 blocks) & still never got level. Ours was in partial shade, & grassy, with electric and water hookups. Wi-Fi is available in the electric sites, and it was not very strong, but that was fine by me. The host was friendly and helpful. The electric sites back up to Route 16, which is much busier & noisier than I would have thought. This is obviously an older campground, as evidenced by the obvious lack of emphasis by the Forest Service, I assume because of the small size. The bathrooms were relatively clean, but need remodeling. There are NO showers, the nearest are 5.5 miles away at Hurricane campground, which requires an entry fee, plus $2.00 per person per shower. The streams at the rear of the campground are a nice touch. I doubt we would stay here again, with nicer, bigger campground just a little ways down the road. We camped at Raccoon Branch Campground in a Motorhome.
