The state park gave us easy access to the beach, the Eastern shore, and the Chesapeake Bay area along with a very roomy site. It was well laid out, but had some standing water in one or two roadways. Also, some trees at the site could've been trimmed better, causing some scratches near the top of our motorhome, and the soft sand wasn't the easiest to maneuver around with the site. But overall, a great campground for visiting this area. We camped at First Landing State Park in a Motorhome.

Check out Assateague and Chincoteague on the Eastern shore but plan for a full day considering the length of the trip. Also keep in mind that it is a $23 toll to cross the bridge.

The first thing you notice here is that the RV sites are very close to the beach. But we enjoyed the hiking trails here more. They are on the south side of the park and include the "Bald Cyprus Nature Trail". That goes thorough lagoons filled with Bald Cypress and Spanish Moss. We joined a ranger led trail on it and it was excellent. We got a chance to scoop out out water and look for animals which was fun. The visitor center is entertaining as well, and there are some short foot bridges out to the beach. There are a few good restaurants very close by, and Virginia Beach is a short drive away. We camped at First Landing State Park in a Cabin.

We stayed 3 nights in a site that backed up to the dunes and afforded us a view of the bay. Access to the dog friendly beach was close by. This park has many more sites for tents and smaller campers than it does for class A rigs. The park is located very close to grocery stores and restaurants and was a short drive from Norfolk. We camped at First Landing State Park in a Motorhome.

Premier state park of Virginia. Sites are as close to the Chesapeake bay as you can get. Shaded site afforded privacy and seclusion. While you can make out sounds of adjoining sites you can't really see anyone. Big difference if you're used to commercial facilities. Extremely competent and friendly staff.

Wonderfully maintained and serviced facility. Due to its popularity this park is extremely hard to get into unless you plan way in advance or use the Notification features on their reservation website. This park is an exceptional value and real natural treasure for Virginia Beach.

Can't wait to return. We camped at First Landing State Park in a Travel Trailer.

This park campground is situated right on the beach and is a great experience - very few folks on the beach compared to hotels and resorts. Make reservations soon because it fills fast. This park has both site-specific reserved areas, and first-come first-serve areas, meaning that you can reserve a site, but you pick from the ones available when you arrive.

This park also uses a 20'/30'/50' reservation size protocol, meaning that they give you a site based on your rig/camper LENGTH, not the size of the electrical amperage you need, which might be confusing since most sites have 20/30/50 amp service!

Some of the sites are open and have no shade, and others are WELL shaded, maybe too much. The routes in and out of the campground can also be a little daunting to larger motorhomes, especially those 40' or more.

Showers, bathrooms, and water fountains were all good. Each site has water and electric, but no sewer. Wi-Fi is available at the office only. There are also several boardwalks to the beach. We camped at First Landing State Park in a Motorhome.

The rate is for a non VA resident. Campground was very nice on northern shore of Virginia Beach. We will definitely go back to this campground, in fact, we were told to book 11 months out and we will do that. This time of year the weather can be iffy but it is worth the chance. Sorry, we will not give out our site number because we feel it was the best in the park! We camped at First Landing State Park in a Motorhome.

Just got back from a great weekend at First Landing and we had a great time. My wife and I camped in our 38' Thor Outlaw. My son-in-law, daughter and 2 young boys camped in their 30 foot TT. I was in C15 and they were in C6. Getting to these sites involved some very tight turns, but easily negotiated. The sites were level, had water and electrical hookup (50 amp in mine - 30 in theirs) with fire rings. They are well spaced and wooded. I saw every kind of camper, from tents in sand dunes to big rigs. The staff said my site can take up to a 50 footer. Bathrooms were cinder block and clean....nothing special. Firewood is sold at the office. There were well maintained boardwalks to the beach that faces the mouth of the Chesapeake Bay. Water temp was too cool for swimming, but the kids had a great time. The staff is new and still figuring it all out, but helpful. the sight is very secure/safe. Virginia State Park Police patrolled every couple of hours. I didn't see any interaction with campers, more like maintaining a presence. Pets are allowed on leashes. Be careful of sand burrs that stick in their paws. Mine had a great time and are passed out after all the exercise and fun they had at the beach. There are plenty of nice affordable restaurants in easy reach if you want to skip smores as a main course. Short drive to Naval Bases and the Virginia Beach Oceanfront. I live a short distance miles from this park and will do it again with my family. We camped at First Landing State Park in a Motorhome.

Great park, with friendly staff, a great store and helpful camp hosts (at least when I was there). In fact, my hosts actually loaned me some leveling blocks out of the kindness of their hearts. They didn't have to do that, they just did. I stayed in lot H (I think -- the one furthest west at one end) which as far as I am concerned is the best lot to be in. It's quiet and there are some really great waterfront sites. Now, when I say waterfront, I mean what every other place in this part of the country means by that -- behind the dunes, but with an easy walk to the beach (which is very nice and clean) and I could hear the waves from my windows every night which I loved. Very pet friendly, with doggy cleanup bags available. If there is one negative about this park, it's the sand spurs. Obviously, this is an issue with ANY park with this kind of locale, but they're everywhere, so come prepared without open ankles and come with some mats or tarps to put around your site to try to keep them out of your camper. Also, if you get a site along the southern edge of the park, you're going to have some road noise because it's very close to Shore Drive there. Those two things aside, I made three other reservations for this park (especially now that they allow site specific reservations in some areas of the park!!) if that gives you an idea of my overall impression. LOVE THIS PLACE. Many OTA channels available, many good sat TV sites, water (pressure very strong, use a regulator) and power both great. We camped at First Landing State Park in a Motorhome.

We were a little apprehensive when we arrived at this campground as reservations are not site specific and they give you a colour-coded tag and ask you to go find your own site that corresponds to the colour. Turns out it was fine. We found a very nice site in the G loop that was very close to the beach. Be advised that sites are on the small side and the maneuvering is tight so big rigs might have a tough time. We were on the beach almost every day and walking on it every night. The campground AND beach are very dog-friendly. On the beach, if you're looking for waves, you won't find many. It's more like a very warm, salt-water lake. Views of dolphins, cargo ships, Navy vessels and helicopters were great fun! Privacy between sites is great. Our only complaint was the Wi-Fi. They have an Internet cafe area, but for eight days we couldn't connect with two phones or a laptop. The staff said that that the Wi-Fi was erratic and that some people were able to connect, but we never talked to anyone for which is was working. Normally, we wouldn't care much, but we were trying to sell our house while we were away. Luckily, MacDonalds is five minutes away with free Wi-Fi. We would camp there again in a heartbeat! We camped at First Landing State Park in a Travel Trailer.

We really enjoyed First Landing State Park. The campsites are nestled into ancient sand dunes among gnarled live oak trees. They are sufficiently separated from each other that you have some sense of privacy. There are beach access points in each of the loops with boardwalks across the dune ridges to a wide sloping beach. The beach is along the Chesapeake Bay so the water is shallow, without the surf you will find around the corner on Virginia Beach. In the distance you see ocean going cargo and Navy ships entering the Bay. The Trails part of the Park has quite a few well marked trails. The Bald Cypress Trail goes through a cypress swamp with Spanish Moss hanging from the trees. Quite unusual for Virginia. There is a wonderful Visitors Center in the Trails area. The Park also offers cute 2 bedroom cabins for rent in a pine forested area. Like the campsites, they are thoughtfully situated for privacy. We camped at First Landing State Park in a Motorhome.

Very nice campground near the Chesapeake Bay. If coming in a motorhome, recommend asking the ranger to be able to look at all three campground areas (D, G, and H) before committing to an area. This way, you are more likely to get a good level site. Saw many 30' and 50' sites occupied by pop-ups, tents, or vehicles; the park does not require that you have the appropriate RV for the large sites. Area good for biking and the beach is close by and very nice. Definitely will return next year. We camped at First Landing State Park in a Motorhome.

This is a lovely park with a short walk to beach. Some sites are closer to the beach but none are really too far away. As with all Virginia State Parks you have a site but it's not specific. When we arrived they gave us one of two loops to choose from D or G, we picked D and after riding through both loops we didn't find any of our colored sites open so we drove over to H where we found a site and then went back and told them where we were. Our site was shaded and a good size, a lot of the sites are not defined by any borders. The showers were unisex individual showers and not the cleanest but they were also heavily used and often had to wait. This is an area that has so much to do in and a weekend just isn't enough time. We will return. We camped at First Landing State Park in a Travel Trailer.
