We had a great time at this park. Great location for a WIlliamsburg vacation. The park is right off I-64, easy access although the road it is on is small and you find yourself saying a prayer that there is actually an RV park at the end of the road! After the first time down the road though all of those concerns are washed away as it turns out it is just a short, very short, ride down Maxton Lane to the park entrance. Also of note, the little street is VERY quiet and infrequently traveled so we had no access issues in our large 5th wheel nor did our parents in their 38' diesel pusher. The campground is quiet, clean and has nice amenities. My children enjoyed the playground and the open fields that had plenty of room to exercise little legs at the end of a long day on the road. Many people had dogs including our parents who stayed beside us. They gave it high marks and said it was dog friendly. The train mentioned in other reviews is indeed noticeable but it we really didn't find it annoying as it was rather infrequent rail traffic and about 50% of the time the horn wasn't even used. It was never an issue for us. Our site was paved, with a concrete side patio at the front and an additional asphalt key at the rear that we found convenient to park your tow vehicle or dinghy vehicle. Hookups were easy and 50A power was clean. Verizon coverage was strong for voice and data. Campground wi-fi was pretty good for surfing/email but lets face it there is no CG wi-fi that can keep up with todays average streaming user. Also our picnic table had a new top on it and was HUGE. Loved being able to have 4 adults and 2 kids at the table for evening meals in the shade of the mature pines, tulip poplar and maple that shaded our site. Probably not the most satellite friendly spot we were on but the sites at the rear of the park were open. We pulled in 40+ digital channels/subs with the antenna. We camped at American Heritage RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

15 min to Colonial Williamsburg. We parked at the visitor center everyday and used the bus system extensively there. Never had to wait more than 5min at any stop. It was packed over spring break. Highly suggest you make reservations for carriage rides and optional ticketed things that are reservable online beforehand.

Stayed here for 3 nights while visiting nearby Williamsburg. Our site was a pull through concrete pad and was level. The staff here are extremely friendly and have done an excellent job maintaining this park. The Wifi is strong and there are a large number of cable channels. The roads are a bit tight but did not pose a problem. We would stay here again as this is an ideal stop if visiting Williamsburg. We camped at American Heritage RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Access road is a dead end and a bit tight but with little traffic , it is ok. Checkin went smooth. You have to ask for a fire ring which they deliver to your site. This fire ring was nothing more than an old metal washtub ( really!) Pre-determined fire ring location was RIGHT next to our vehicle so we had to park back. They could do some tree trimming to make navigation/ parking better. We did not use any amenities so cannot describe them. If we go back to W burg, we will stay at the KOA. their sites aren't paved but they aren't jammed so close together. Site was concrete and perfectly level. We camped at American Heritage RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Our first visit to this large & very attractive campground, easy off/on VA Route 64. We stayed here to break up the trip to & from Northern Virginia to Rodanthe, Outer Banks, NC. Reservations (probably not necessary in Oct/Nov) were easy to make - efficient check-in. Well equipped camp store. We had Site 22, which was large enough for our SUV hooked to our trailer (we're about 50 feet). The site was level, paved, with a picnic table, and very clean. Full hookups were in good working order and well located. We did not use the bathhouse, but judging from the rest of the campground, I would imagine it is clean. Great place for dog walking & there is a large off-leash dog enclosure. Wi-Fi was excellent as was the cable connection, with a large variety of available channels. Strong Verizon signal. There is a train that passes nearby, blowing its horn which might bother some, but not us - we love trains. Entry is down a very narrow road & it could be easy to miss the left turn into the campground as it is partially obscured by bushes/trees. Not good to miss it, as it's a dead end street & no way to turn around, so just watch carefully for the American Heritage sign to your left. Our GPS was a bit confused! We camped at American Heritage RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

We had a nice wide pull thru with plenty of space for our toad. All pads are concrete with additional large living area. Roads are wide, perfect for large rigs. The park was quite, well maintained and the staff was very friendly. We camped at American Heritage RV Park in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

A quiet campground surrounded by thick row of trees so highway and train noise is minimal. Front Half is concrete pads and asphalt access roads with heavy shade. Back half is concrete pads with gravel access roads and no shade. Sites have adequate spacing with grass between the sites, picnic tables, and fire rings on request. Highway noise was barely noticeable while the trains (6-12 a day) were moving so fast it was just a couple a minutes of noise for each train.

The street leading to the campground is problematic, but doable for big rigs - narrow (maybe a lane and a half), trees both low overhanging and intruding from sides. Big rigs pretty much need to take the middle of road to avoid scraping. The turn into and out of the campground is tight but doable for big rigs. On exit big rigs need to go out from left lane and take all of the street. The trees on the left side of the exit are not trimmed for big rigs (thus losing half a lane). Trees on the right side of the road make the exit turn effectively a blind turn. Two rigs can't pass on the street.

The main access road is wide enough for two rigs, but once back among the sites the access roads are pretty much a single lane but still two way traffic.

Power ok, water ok, sewer ok, wifi pretty decent (but this was off season) except for Friday and Saturday evenings when campground filled up with weekenders. Verizon LTE 3-4 bars with adequate speed, TMobile LTE 1-2 bars with adequate speed. Cable was analog and somewhat snowy. Front half of the campground is problematic for satellite, back half is mostly ok for satellite except site 93 which has a low hanging tree overhead that precludes use of roof mounted satellite on front of coach. Southernmost sites in back area might have trouble clearing treeline for satellite. Onsite single steam recycle. Adequate road bike riding if short and repetitive in campground. No direct access to good road bike riding from campground.

We would stay here again. We camped at American Heritage RV Park in a Motorhome.

This is a great park. All roads are paved, all sites are concrete with patio and table, some might need a little leveling. Deluxe sites have chairs and larger patio with fire ring etc. Restrooms and showers were always clean and very nice. Did not use it, but pool looked nice. It is convenient to all attractions in historic triangle and close to shopping and restaurants on route 60. Staff were all friendly and helpful. Responded within minutes when several sites in our row had an issue with sewer drainage. I don't think any of the sites were long enough to leave your dingy attached.

Watch carefully for entrance to park, sign is kind of hidden. If you go past, road deadends at railroad track, hard to turn around. We camped at American Heritage RV Park in a Motorhome.

We stayed in site 39. Pull through, concrete pad and patio, full hookups. The site was well maintained and the park was quite nice. If you wanted a fire you had to request a fire ring as opposed to it being on the site permanently. I believe there were built in rings on the deluxe sites. Where we were was very shaded, the other sites in the back were not but slightly bigger.

Laundry area needs some updates. We used it but wasn't up to par with their bathhouse which was very nice.

We will use them if we are in the area again. Just not in the summer...it was HOTTT. We would request site 39 again. We camped at American Heritage RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

This campground is a bit of a contradiction. The front is very nice, with lots of shade trees. There is a playground and a good pool. The deluxe sites have beautiful patios with furniture and fire pits. Our site was very nice even though we were across from the bathroom which is never my first choice, but I was surprised when I walked further back into the campground. It looks like they are still in the process of expanding and the sites near the back are not nearly as nice. There are hardly any trees and a bunch of construction equipment is parked just beyond the last row of campsites. I would have been very unhappy if that was my view. Also, there is an opening in the fence at the beginning of row 7 that shows a yard filled with junk. Not sure if that land belongs to the campground, but if you are in campsite #57, that's the view from your picnic table! Ask for something in rows 1-8 (except for #57) and you should be happy. All the staff was very friendly and helpful. We camped at American Heritage RV Park in a Motorhome.

Our stay was shortened at American Heritage due to an emergency at home, however, we hope to go back as soon as we can arrange the time. This park is the BEST! There are two types of campsites, regular which includes all hook ups a concrete pad and patio and deluxe. The deluxe sites also have concrete pads and patios but include as well beautiful stone boundary walls with built in fire pits, fixed grills and patio tables with umbrellas and that seat six! The pool on site was beautiful, clean and had lots of tables and chairs on the deck. The park paid a great deal of attention to details to make it a lovely place to enjoy your stay. They also offer 3 nature trails. We were only able to do one of them. They also have a good sized dog run, which unfortunately we didn't get to take advantage of either. We cant wait to go back! We camped at American Heritage RV Park in a Motorhome.

We spent a week here and found it to be a good spot for visiting the area. The utilities worked well. The staff was friendly. The only downfall is that the roads and sites are dirt. It's been a while since I've stayed at this RV Park and they have made one Hugh improvement and that is they have paved nearly all of the interior roads. Would have given a better rating but the nearby railroad noise( whistle, etc.) is pretty loud at times. Granted the park has no control over this but it does detract from the enjoyment of your stay.
