Overall Rating:

We stayed in site 39. Pull through, concrete pad and patio, full hookups. The site was well maintained and the park was quite nice. If you wanted a fire you had to request a fire ring as opposed to it being on the site permanently. I believe there were built in rings on the deluxe sites. Where we were was very shaded, the other sites in the back were not but slightly bigger.

Laundry area needs some updates. We used it but wasn't up to par with their bathhouse which was very nice.

We will use them if we are in the area again. Just not in the summer...it was HOTTT. We would request site 39 again. We camped at American Heritage RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Date of Stay: July, 2016 - $54.00
Overall Rating:

This campground is a bit of a contradiction. The front is very nice, with lots of shade trees. There is a playground and a good pool. The deluxe sites have beautiful patios with furniture and fire pits. Our site was very nice even though we were across from the bathroom which is never my first choice, but I was surprised when I walked further back into the campground. It looks like they are still in the process of expanding and the sites near the back are not nearly as nice. There are hardly any trees and a bunch of construction equipment is parked just beyond the last row of campsites. I would have been very unhappy if that was my view. Also, there is an opening in the fence at the beginning of row 7 that shows a yard filled with junk. Not sure if that land belongs to the campground, but if you are in campsite #57, that's the view from your picnic table! Ask for something in rows 1-8 (except for #57) and you should be happy. All the staff was very friendly and helpful. We camped at American Heritage RV Park in a Motorhome.

We spent a week here and found it to be a good spot for visiting the area. The utilities worked well. The staff was friendly. The only downfall is that the roads and sites are dirt. Other than this, it's a nice place. We will stay again when in the area. We camped at American Heritage RV Park in a Motorhome.

It's been a while since I've stayed at this RV Park and they have made one Hugh improvement and that is they have paved nearly all of the interior roads. Would have given a better rating but the nearby railroad noise( whistle, etc.) is pretty loud at times. Granted the park has no control over this but it does detract from the enjoyment of your stay. We camped at American Heritage RV Park in a Motorhome.

Quiet, clean, well run and very helpful personnel. A great place to use as a base for seeing the historic triangle. We have a 50 amp, pull through site, with full hookups. They have cable but we used Dish Network. We have stayed here before and recommend it highly. We camped at American Heritage RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Take time to see Shirley and Birkeley plantations. We also enjoyed the Jamestown Settlement, original Jamestown, Yorktown and Colonial Williamsburg. We are here for a week and we should have scheduled two.

We opted for a premium site which had a patio and table and chairs. While our site was level, the decline getting into the site was very steep, so much so that I had to get out twice to make sure the coach's exhaust wasn't going to scrap - we had about 2 inches to spare. Sites and roadway were nicely paved. Front office staff helpful and courteous. Having stayed at two other campgrounds in the area, we definitely prefer this one. Signage needed to explain/deter/keep people SAFE:

*Behind 100s lots - large trees down, excavating stagnant over a year+

*Near maintenance area, main rd, 2 large holes, created by pavers over 3' deep and 4ft across. 1 had orange cone, 8ft later, a 2nd hole did not have cone - I nearly fell into 2nd hole walking dog at night even with flashlight

*Rec bldg is construction garage - doors unlocked, saws, debris

*Dog "pen" not "park", has no grass and is just mud w/o any benches or play equipment (also a 1/4 mi away from campsites)

*Several lots had tailgate tents with flap sides. One was a fireplace mantel business with skill saws visible as sides.

*Walking trail unmaintained, quickly turned around with green utility hoses sticking 5-6ft out of ground in air cascading over trail

*Junkyard of trucks, motorcycles, uninhabitable campers behind office

*Camper storage had grass overgrowing campers -I wonder if owners know their campers are probably winter homes for snakes and who knows what else with underbrush not being maintained

I hope this CG was just purchased and owners are working to remedy but putting money into signage to let patrons know "why" things are a mess surrounding sites would help immensely. It appears to be years of uncompleted projects, hopefully from prior owners.

Lastly, the house on the corner, at entrance to park appears to enjoy making it difficult to maneuver into CG. We towed, but each trip in/out with car, there were 8-14 cars parked in their front "yard" and on side road -- even their trash bins were left obstructing road in some passive-aggressive notion - owners need to make peace or buy out that house

Bathrooms were immaculate. CG sites were immaculate. Guy on golf cart was super friendly. If they could just wall off all of the eyesore areas on perimeter, they would be a very nice park. Oh, and please move the fenced area about 1000 ft closer to the CG lots where the grass is currently being used as a parking lot! We camped at American Heritage RV Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

We have a small RV, but the big guys....I'd park on Maxton Lane near Lutheran Church and walk to see how many cars/trashcans the house at entrance to park has obstructing road as I can not imagine even a tow trailer being able to navigate into CG.

Very close to Williamsburg, Great location if the house on the corner of Maxton would learn to be neighborly.

This is a top notch facility that makes a perfect home base for exploring Colonial Williamsburg and the surrounding area. Roads are asphalt and camping pads are concrete. We had a premium site (#29) that was nicely landscaped and included a fire pit, patio furniture, and a charcoal pit. Grounds are kept spotless and well manicured. The bathrooms are worthy of a custom home. Wireless was very reliable but just a tick slow. Staff were friendly and helpful. We spent a whole week here and enjoyed the campground. We will definitely return! We camped at American Heritage RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

We stayed here as part of an RV rally. This was our first stay at a full service rv park. It's very nice for what it is, but we prefer to stay at state parks it local campgrounds. It's a great set up for a rally. There's a club house for group gatherings and a pool. Also some nice hiking trails. Even though the sites were close together, the layout was such that we felt we had some privacy. Restrooms were exceptionally clean. All the amenities of Williamsburg are nearby. We spent a day hiking at nearby York River State Park and would recommend it. We camped at American Heritage RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

We stayed a couple of nights while visiting the Williamsburg area and would recommend this park. We did not have a car but Hertz was close by and picked us up. The park is on a short side-road but easy to navigate. Sites were clean and roomy. Although this park is fairly close to main highways and the railroad tracks, we did not notice any excessive noise. Really nice campground! All the interior roads are tarmac and the sites are cement with grass alongside with a table. I also liked the layout. It's not the "typical parking lot style" like so many are, it was more scattered this way and that, which gave you a better since of space & view. Lots of shade trees too. Their WiFi was secured and I got good reception. The cable was a bit fuzzy for the major channels, but that may have been us (?). Super nice people too. No complaints here. Tips for other Campers:

Even if you don't do the pricey Williamsburg, there are lots to see and do around here to keep you busy for a week! You have Jamestown & Yorktown that don't have to cost as well as wonderful lighthouses in Virginia Beach to seek out. Of course, if you are a WWII buff (like my husband) you will want to see the USS Monitor in Newport News and stop at the US Army Transportation Museum en route back!

This is a beautiful park and easy to get to from the interstate. The road leading to the campground needs some trees trimmed but that's not something the campground can control. It's close to the historical sites and nice and quiet. The front area is all paved with lots of trees. Some turns were a little narrow but nothing to really worry about. Our site was in the back, which was gravel with gravel roads. They're still working on the back area. The picnic table at our site had one warped plank which was bent way up making that part of the table unusable. This park is a 9+ and we would definitely come again. Tips for other Campers:

Don't miss Historic Jamestown and the Glasshouse. We were disappointed in Colonial Williamsburg. It was very expensive and not as historic as the original Jamestown site.
