This was a nice park that was peaceful and quiet, even though it was pretty full during our visit, Our site was a premium pull through that was level and shaded. It was very hot the week we were there and we had no problems with electric keeping the A/C running non stop. Wifi was good most of the time and cable was very good. Park is convenient to the area attractions. The only negatives of the park were the restrooms. They seemed dated and were not cleaned often enough. There were no paper towels in the men's restroom for last 2 days of the stay. We camped at American Heritage RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Decent place to stay to come visit Colonial Williamsburg & surrounding areas. Sites in the front section can be tight, but a lot of them have shade. Some are pull-thru & some are back-in. Our 50 amp, pull-thru, FHU site was level and was in the back section. There are small trees in this section, so no shade. I'm guessing this section is newer, so as the trees grow, they'll hopefully produce some shade. The sites are spaced well, and the way they are staggered makes it nice and spacious. Site is a concrete slab with a concrete patio. There is a parking space for 1 vehicle. They have a visitors overflow parking lot if you have more than 1 vehicle, which we did. Friendly, easy check-in. There's a nice pool along with a water slide (fee). The putt-putt didn't look usable - we didn't ask. Excellent WIFI & good cable. Easily accessible off I-64. We would stay here again if in the area. We camped at American Heritage RV Park in a Motorhome.

This park is very convenient to Colonial Williamsburg and nearby attractions. It is also convenient to I-64. The front section of the campground is very shady. The back section has less shade. Most sites have a concrete pad and a concrete parking space for 1 car. Some sites have permanent fire rings, and a few have fireplaces with chimneys. Ours did not, so, on request, they delivered a fire ring and our wood to our site. The ring gave off a chemical smoke, so I'd suggest you get one of the sites with a built in ring if you are planning to have a fire. The campground was about 2/3 full, mid-week in the end of July. The pool was very nice and refreshing after days of touristing in the Virginia summer heat. Our site was level, all of the utilities were convenient and worked well. Wi-fi was strong. The staff was exceptionally nice and helpful. We really liked staying here and will definitely return. We camped at American Heritage RV Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Colonial Williamsburg has a "Dig" for kids where they work with real archeologists to dig the colonial items out of the foundation of a building. After about 20 minutes of digging, they analyze the glass, shells, nails, pottery etc that they find. Very fun. Plan 60 minutes for the activity. Sign up in advance. No additional fee beyond the CW ticket.

Very pleasant park to stay while touring the historic triangle or just relaxing with friends and family. Easy access, friendly staff and level cemented sites and patios. Sites are close yet are staggered to provide a feeling of space. Roads are narrow which makes entering and leaving a site a challenge for longer rvs. The trees provide shade and a challenge to get satellite reception. Wifi is adequate for limited use. Observing fireflies at dusk was a real bonus. We enjoyed our stay here. We camped at American Heritage RV Park in a Motorhome.

This is an older park and some of the facilities are showing their age. The site was very level and did accommodate both our 40 ft MH and our tow vehicle. Concrete patio has a large by very dilapidated wooden picnic table. Grass area around site is pretty sparse. Streets are narrow, so if you have a bigger rig, make sure you turn wide when turning into your row. WiFi was great. Park was quiet except for trains at night. Some sites face an accumulation of construction equipment, so would ask about that when booking. We camped at American Heritage RV Park in a Motorhome.

We stayed for one week. The weekly rate was $355.50 plus 11% tax so our avg was $56.37/night. Our site was in the newer section of the park where the roads are gravel and there is less vegetation and trees (no shade but good for a satellite signal). Our site and patio area were concrete, level and clean. All hook-up's worked well. The reservation and check-in process were friendly and efficient. We added a day and the front desk was able to accommodate our request without having us change sites. They were willing to receive shipments for us. They will pick up your trash at your site each morning which is a nice perk. This park is great for kids. There are big grassy areas to run around and play games, a playground, nature trails and - in season - a pool and waterslide. I didn't use it but the laundry area was very large with lots of machines, folding tables and even an ironing board. Yes - there are trains but they didn't bother us. Yes - the road coming in is tight but it's short and manageable. Verizon cell, Sprint Mifi and DirecTV all worked well. The location is perfect for visiting the historic sites in the triangle area. We felt it was a nice place to come "home" to after a day of sightseeing. We enjoyed our time here and would definitely stay again if in the area. We camped at American Heritage RV Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Duck Donuts customizes every order. Choose your toppings to create your masterpiece. They're served warm and yummy. Kids might find it boring but adults will find Historic Jamestowne fascinating. American Revolution Museum is remodeled and fantastic. Kids will enjoy the outdoor military camp, artillery demo and farm. At Colonial Wburg, participate with staff as much as possible. Take tours, drink chocolate at the coffeehouse, attend a county courthouse proceeding and see the shows.

The established part of the park looked nice with mature trees and they looked clean. The sites were too short for big rigs for the most part ... but that was not our part of the park. As we checked in we were informed that we would be in the new area with a patio, fireplace, tables and chairs ... As we pulled up to our site it was obvious to us that we had been mislead. But guess what?, they had our money and there were no refunds. The site had a concrete patio but not enough concrete for us to consider this a 'clean' site. The grass (weeds) had not been mowed for a long time and were mid calf high. We had an amazing view of three separate large JUNK piles along the tree line and lots of unkempt, empty sites. We feel the management was not forthcoming in truthfully telling us what the site really was. We were charged high season price for a weedy, unmowed site, no water in the pool, etc. To make matters worse, while my husband was in the office he mentioned we had just come from Washington DC ... the man behind the counter said he didn't like DC because there were too many 'monkeys' there. That comment alone was revolting. The only good thing I can say is that there is a really nice Trail in the forest behind the campground ... but I don't think it belongs to the campground. We camped at American Heritage RV Park in a Motorhome.

Check out the Mariner's Museum in Newport News. There is a great section highlighting the battle between the Monitor and Merrimack. We especially enjoyed Historic Jamestowne and the archaeologist led tour. While at Williamsburg, check out LOKAL for a healthy meal served with a smile.

We stayed here for a week, over the Memorial Day weekend. The rate reflects a weekly discount, and not the usual "holiday weekend upcharge". This park was in a good location, reasonably close to the interstate. There is a newer section that has longer sites and fewer trees and is big-rig friendly. We were there and quite happy with that area, although it did get muddy when it rained. The roads were adequate, the sites were long enough and wide enough, with a huge concrete patio, which was very nice. Utilities were well-placed and fully functional. The folks in the office were nice and very helpful. There were no areas for bike rides, however. The area roads had NO shoulders. Visiting Colonial Williamsburg was OK - but once was enough. We enjoyed the NPS Jamestowne settlement much more, and were able to bike through the park - it was great! We camped at American Heritage RV Park in a Motorhome.

We had a great time at this park. Great location for a WIlliamsburg vacation. The park is right off I-64, easy access although the road it is on is small and you find yourself saying a prayer that there is actually an RV park at the end of the road! After the first time down the road though all of those concerns are washed away as it turns out it is just a short, very short, ride down Maxton Lane to the park entrance. Also of note, the little street is VERY quiet and infrequently traveled so we had no access issues in our large 5th wheel nor did our parents in their 38' diesel pusher. The campground is quiet, clean and has nice amenities. My children enjoyed the playground and the open fields that had plenty of room to exercise little legs at the end of a long day on the road. Many people had dogs including our parents who stayed beside us. They gave it high marks and said it was dog friendly. The train mentioned in other reviews is indeed noticeable but it we really didn't find it annoying as it was rather infrequent rail traffic and about 50% of the time the horn wasn't even used. It was never an issue for us. Our site was paved, with a concrete side patio at the front and an additional asphalt key at the rear that we found convenient to park your tow vehicle or dinghy vehicle. Hookups were easy and 50A power was clean. Verizon coverage was strong for voice and data. Campground wi-fi was pretty good for surfing/email but lets face it there is no CG wi-fi that can keep up with todays average streaming user. Also our picnic table had a new top on it and was HUGE. Loved being able to have 4 adults and 2 kids at the table for evening meals in the shade of the mature pines, tulip poplar and maple that shaded our site. Probably not the most satellite friendly spot we were on but the sites at the rear of the park were open. We pulled in 40+ digital channels/subs with the antenna. We camped at American Heritage RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

15 min to Colonial Williamsburg. We parked at the visitor center everyday and used the bus system extensively there. Never had to wait more than 5min at any stop. It was packed over spring break. Highly suggest you make reservations for carriage rides and optional ticketed things that are reservable online beforehand.

Stayed here for 3 nights while visiting nearby Williamsburg. Our site was a pull through concrete pad and was level. The staff here are extremely friendly and have done an excellent job maintaining this park. The Wifi is strong and there are a large number of cable channels. The roads are a bit tight but did not pose a problem. We would stay here again as this is an ideal stop if visiting Williamsburg. We camped at American Heritage RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Access road is a dead end and a bit tight but with little traffic , it is ok. Checkin went smooth. You have to ask for a fire ring which they deliver to your site. This fire ring was nothing more than an old metal washtub ( really!) Pre-determined fire ring location was RIGHT next to our vehicle so we had to park back. They could do some tree trimming to make navigation/ parking better. We did not use any amenities so cannot describe them. If we go back to W burg, we will stay at the KOA. their sites aren't paved but they aren't jammed so close together. Site was concrete and perfectly level. We've stayed at American Heritage a few times over the past 7 years and have watched them grow in number of sites. Happily they are giving the same detail to all their sites, so if you were here for the first time, couldn't tell where the old ended and the new started. Roads are paved and sites are paved with pads and picnic tables so you don't step out in to the grass. There is a bit of grass between sites and they do ask you not to drive or park on the grass - the sites have a wider section of the paved area for parking toads or if you disconnect your rig from the truck. Bathrooms were clean and good water pressure in shower. Laundry has 4 washers and 4 dryers and all are $1.75/load. (did not use this trip) This is one of the more expensive parks we will stay at over the course of our 7 months on the road. While we were there in early April, they had already changed to "peak season" rates - my personal feeling is this was done too soon. There are other campgrounds closer to Colonial Williamsburg and the shopping outlets. I think they could wait until May to raise rates. The store has a few camper and food items but is mostly toys and gifts. Staff are friendly and I'm sure when we're back in the area, we'll stay here again because it's away from the hustle and bustle of town. We camped at American Heritage RV Park in a Truck Camper.

I travel with my kids and my in-laws. My father-in-law is confined to a wheelchair as he is missing a leg. So, when we go camping, the number one priority is accessibility. This campsite is great in that it is completely paved, but the general store and bathhouse both have a step to get in with no ramps. Additionally, there are no bars in the bathrooms to accommodate someone with lower mobility issues (the toilets are normal height as well). If they were to provide a shower and a toilet accessible by wheelchair, we would go to this campsite more. As is, we cannot return. We camped at American Heritage RV Park in a Motorhome.

Our first visit to this large & very attractive campground, easy off/on VA Route 64. We stayed here to break up the trip to & from Northern Virginia to Rodanthe, Outer Banks, NC. Reservations (probably not necessary in Oct/Nov) were easy to make - efficient check-in. Well equipped camp store. We had Site 22, which was large enough for our SUV hooked to our trailer (we're about 50 feet). The site was level, paved, with a picnic table, and very clean. Full hookups were in good working order and well located. We did not use the bathhouse, but judging from the rest of the campground, I would imagine it is clean. Great place for dog walking & there is a large off-leash dog enclosure. Wi-Fi was excellent as was the cable connection, with a large variety of available channels. Strong Verizon signal. There is a train that passes nearby, blowing its horn which might bother some, but not us - we love trains. Entry is down a very narrow road & it could be easy to miss the left turn into the campground as it is partially obscured by bushes/trees. Not good to miss it, as it's a dead end street & no way to turn around, so just watch carefully for the American Heritage sign to your left. Our GPS was a bit confused! We camped at American Heritage RV Park in a Travel Trailer.
