Park doesn't do reservations after 9/15 until sometime in the spring. New clean restroom and shower building. Watched the ferries arrive and depart. Went up to the old fort and found a TV show being filmed (season finale for Z Nation). Lots of deer and rabbits. Saw a surfaced submarine being escorted out of the Sound. I recommend ferry reservations. We didn't have one and had to wait for the next ferry. We camped at Fort Casey State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Overall Rating:

The campground area is basically a big, flat spit with a paved main road and gravel sites. None of the pull-through sites have hookups, but the views are outstanding. Generators are allowed during certain hours. The hook-up sites are in a long oblong and are all back-in. There is reasonable space between sites, but there is nothing but grass and gravel between sites, so no privacy. The restroom was spotless. Showers are $.50 (two quarters) for 3 minutes and the lights are on a sensor, so you may be surprised by the lights going out after you start your shower. When the check-in hut is staffed, or the host is available, tokens can be purchased for the showers.

The ferries do not blow their horns to announce arrival and departure, so are fairly quiet, sounding similar to a train when coming and going. There is no noise associated with loading and unloading and it is actually nice to see the boats coming and going.

The beach is outstanding, and the bluff above the campground has an amazing array of WWII structures put in place to protect the coast. You can spend a day wandering among these structures and imagining what life must have been like for the many soldiers stationed here.

We spent New Year's Eve here and it was blissfully quiet. We camped at Fort Casey State Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Coupeville is nearby and has many restaurants and shops, plus grocery stores. The Keystone Cafe is across the highway from the ferry landing and is worth trying.

This Park has clean flush toilets/washroom,clean coin/token showers. Sites are very well maintained. The campground host is very good at welcoming you and answering any questions you may have. As well she decorates the park with gardening. Pots and beds of flowers all over the place to make it a home away from home. Deer and small rabbits are abundant and not afraid of people. The ferry is right there but you forget about while looking at the ocean view. Sea lions, porpoises, seals and whales...when the salmon are running. We camped at Fort Casey State Park in a Motorhome.

Our favorite spot whether with or without kids. Great place to walk (with or without dog), fun places to explore (old fort, gun emplacements), ferry next to campground that takes you across the sound to the quaint tourist town of Port Townsend. We try to visit at least twice per year. We camped at Fort Casey State Park in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

My favorite State Park in Washington State. What FT. Casey has that most parks do not have is "right on the water" sites at no extra cost. Electricity is now available and reservations is now available for the summer months. Not only a great over night spot for ferry travelers, but lots of walking trails and old WW2 forts to walk through. Beach combing, bird watching, wild life viewing and great sun risings always available. My favorite is watching the ocean ship traffic always coming and going in the straits overshadowed by the majestic Olympic Peninsula mountain range in the background. When is the last time you saw an Aircraft Carrier or Triton submarine from your easy chair. We camped at Fort Casey State Park in a Motorhome.

Our review is close to the other review. Great location, right on the ocean. Kids loved seeing the ferry come in and out. Electric and water sites is $29...other sites are $22. Nice clean restrooms and showers. No dump station on site, but there is one close by and there is no charge with a receipt from campground. The close by town has everything. Park clean and well kept. Easy to back into. Best thing about this park is the park host. Very friendly and helpful. Great spokeswomen for the state of Washington. We camped at Fort Casey State Park in a Motorhome.

Date of Stay: November, 2011 - $21.00
Overall Rating:

Park service added electric (30A) and water to a dozen or so sites. Water is turned off in winter however there is a spigot available by the restrooms. Lower # sites are closest to the ferry dock which was enjoyable to watch pull in and out. Ferry rarely blew its horn and generally doesn't run from 9pm to 7am (winter). Fort Casey is a nice walk up the trail away and has spectacular views of the Strait. Coupeville is less than 10 minutes away and has propane, gasoline, diesel and markets. First Street Grill was very good for lunch and dinner. Our family has spent every Thanksgiving camping here for over 36 years. We camped at Fort Casey State Park in a Fifth Wheel.
