The sites are back in only, If you are skilled at operating your vehicle that should not be a problem. If you are not, you will probably hit the tall concrete divider pillars and damage your rig. The sites are close together, if you had slides this could also present an issue. For my stay the issue was the wind and the neighboring fire ring. The fire ring was located at the front tire of my rig, and the wind easily pushed it too close to the rubber. Had I not been paying attention, this could have resulted in severe damage to my rig. The main issue is space. Noise, and parking were also issues. This is no fault of the campground, but the layout is not conducive for silence or for space. I drive a 36 foot rig which is 8'9" wide and 12'8" tall.

The camp host was friendly, and very helpful. The petroglyphs are within walking distance, and the lake is quite beautiful. The grounds are well kept, and the grass is trimmed. The anthropological history alone is well worth a one or two day stay. I would have liked to arrange a guided tour of the glyphs, but was unable to due to time constraints.

This makes a good base camp, but not somewhere to hang out and spend the day. Other than the lake, there is not much there. The glyphs are about 1/4 mile down the road, and Horsethief Butte is a great climbing place or even a short hike, is also down the road. We camped at Columbia Hills State Park -- Horse Thief Lake in a Motorhome.

Unlike most of the other nearby CGs (which are between the highway and the train tracks), this is quiet and peaceful. It can get very windy, though. Sites 6-8 good for big rigs. Price reflects out-of-state residency and reservation fee. Be sure to check out the pictographs. We camped at Columbia Hills State Park -- Horse Thief Lake in a Fifth Wheel.

Park has fairly level, gravel sites. Big rigs use site 7 or 8 for easy backing. Self pay at the kiosk in the campground. Has beautiful views of the mountains and river/lake. It's close to City of the Dalles, Oregon. There's no shower facilities and a port-a-potty for bathrooms. We camped at Columbia Hills State Park -- Horse Thief Lake in a Motorhome.

Horse Thief Lake is a pleasant but modest state campground near the edge of the Columbia River. Campsites are gravel and the spaces are adequate. Water and electric are available at the premium sites. As it sits in the Columbia River gorge in an area popular with wind surfers you're likely to have windy days and breezy nights. We think $26.00 per night rate is high for what you get. We likely would not stay here again, primarily because the cost is not competitive with other campgrounds in the area. We camped at Columbia Hills State Park -- Horse Thief Lake in a Motorhome.

Horse Thief Lake is the only campground within Columbia Hills State Park. Gravel sites are all back in, mostly level, but with no visual separation from your neighbor. Sites are separated by concrete posts. Each site has fire rings and picnic tables. Showers, as with all Washington State Parks, are pay for three minutes -- in this case 25 cents for three minutes. Of note is the short walk to the Petroglyph trail which is quite interesting. Also swimming and fishing in Horse Thief Lake. And for a special treat, visit in the Spring and catch the profusion of wild flowers throughout the Columbia hills -- can be awesome! We camped at Columbia Hills State Park -- Horse Thief Lake in a Motorhome.
