Great park located on Banks Lake. Ideal for boaters. Sites and pads large and nicely spaced. Filled to capacity when we were there. Bay loop has a cove where boaters can tie up and leave their craft. It has a sandy beach and a little swimming area. 20 minutes south of Grand Coulee Dam. Boat launches. Three different CG loops plus several additional primitive tent locations off the main highway. We camped at Steamboat Rock State Park in a Motorhome.

July 27, Thursday Steamboat Rock State Park, 136 full hookups, 26 standard sites, 80 primitive sites, bathhouses, $40, Site 30 This state park is in the eastern part of Washington and about 12 miles south of Grand Coulee and the Dam. There are three campgrounds in the park right next to each other. Sage Camp, Dune Camp and Bay Camp. We were in Sage Camp site 30. It was fine but it was in the mid 90's and this site was in the sun all afternoon and early evening. I would choose a site on the north side of the loops. The 81 to 90 loop in the Dune Camp is nice and near everything. I did not like the Bay Camp at all - no trees and very crowded but it is the closest to the boat launch. There is a boat launching area, swimming areas, floating area, bike trails, hiking trails, horse trails, concession store, fish cleaning stations and volleyball areas in the park. The park is in the desert but with some trees and located on beautiful Banks Lake, which is one of two lakes formed by the Grand Coulee Dam. Steamboat Rock towers 800 feet over the campground and lake. It is a beautiful area and Grand Coulee Dam Visitor Center is 12 miles north of it. The Visitor Center has exhibits and tours of the Dam on and in July it was at 10pm. We enjoyed our stay here and reservations are needed since many families come for a week in the summer. We camped at Steamboat Rock State Park in a Motorhome.

We just drove up without reservation on a July Sat in late afternoon -- just hoping maybe there would be a space. There was no full hookup or any hookup available, but the VERY VERY nice office staff worked to get us a site. One staff person drove over to the site to be sure that a tent site would accommodate our 32 ft rig and tow car. And of course we were in agreement to take a "no facilities" site. Out mhome has an inverter and propane and can boondock nicely. The July evening cooled waaay down with sunset. The place is beautiful- an oasis in the arid central WA area. The grounds are exceptionally well kept. It was a very busy state park, but that was no issue-- everyone was nice and quiet hours were perfect. We camped at Steamboat Rock State Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

What a fabulous place for water sports, for hiking, and biking, and relaxing. Don't come expecting wi-fi or cell service (that can be a good thing). Be sure to visit Grand Coulee Dam and Dry Falls State Park!. Bring fishing license, or you;ll have to drive about 15 miles to get one.

Goodsized, full site, asphalt pad, pretty site on the water, paved biking/walking trail, sandy beach. Restrooms were ok, but lacked ventilation. Pay showers. We camped at Steamboat Rock State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Beautiful grassy park surrounded by Bank Lake with Steamboat Rock on the skyline. Gravel sites were mostly level with adequate room between spaces. Park features paved and unpaved walking trails, a boat launch and fish cleaning stations. The sewer hookup pipes stick up 6 inches or so above ground making it exceedingly difficult to slope sewer lines for proper drainage. I visited the bathrooms and showers, which are few and far between quite a hike from the campsites. Showers and bathrooms were clean and in decent condition. No wifi or other amenities. They spray for mosquitoes in the evening --- Yuck, to bugs and insecticides. We camped at Steamboat Rock State Park in a Motorhome.

What a lovely park! There are paved trails that go along the lake for biking and walking. The campsite we had was larger and a bit more private than some of the other sites and was just perfect for us. The bathrooms, during a week of full occupancy, were immaculate. The park is dog-friendly. The climb up to the top of the rock was challenging for older, out-of-shape campers because of the loose basalt. But we enjoyed the climb and reveled in the view. We will be back! We camped at Steamboat Rock State Park in a Motorhome.

Really nice for a state park. Big sites and full hookups. No wifi, cable or, OTA channels. Very quiet campground, but as others have said bring the bug spray. Even though they have a program to control the insects you are right by a lake and we had plenty of bites from the bugs.

About 10 miles from the nearest town so stock up before you get here.

We would stay again but would look for a site further from the lake. We camped at Steamboat Rock State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

This park has almost no shade trees and lots of mosquito's. When you park your camper be sure to hang to the passenger side to avoid the stones on the driver side. These stones make it difficult to get around your camper to hookup your utilities. With the lake right there it offers great boating for everybody. I was surprised to find most of the people camping not very friendly. We camped here in a 40' motorhome. We camped at Steamboat Rock State Park in a Motorhome.

Bring bug spray if camped near the water or large grassy areas. Otherwise we did not encounter mosqito issues in or near our site. There is a control program in place.

Steamboat Rock is a really beautiful park. We enjoyed having wild turkeys crossing through our campsite. We also enjoyed the beach/swimming and the kids' play area. All the utilities are fine, and we did have a weak Verizon cell signal. Grand Coulee dam is very close by. Our neighbors were all quiet and the staff was friendly and attentive. If you want to be "out" of mainstream, this is a wonderful park. Boat launch, lake, roped off swimming areas, on-site snack bar and hiking trails, (some rather challenging). This is an excellent choice. Sites are fairly typical for a state park but very adequate, with full services available, mostly pull through. Fishing can be tremendous but don't tell anyone. Bring bug spray. We camped at Steamboat Rock State Park in a Motorhome.

Spectacular setting with many activities available (fishing, biking, hiking, birding are all good). Many sites with various options - it does get hot in the summer and crowded too, but shoulder season is great. In the summer they do spray for mosquitoes - keeps bugs down but also a pain for camping gear. We camped at Steamboat Rock State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Wonderful hike at adjacent Northrup Canyon (but longer than expected)

Great hiking around or to the top of Steamboat Rock. Wild turkeys in camp, Bald Eagles nearby and rattlesnakes too!

This is by far our favorite spot for a weekend getaway. We normally camp here two or three times a summer between our longer trips. Very spacious sites with lots of room for the kids or

pets and lots of green grass. This campground is always clean and well taken care of with nice access to Banks Lake and beautiful views! We love this campground! We camped at Steamboat Rock State Park in a Motorhome.

This is a beautiful, and very popular, state park campground in the middle of Banks Lake a short drive south of the Grand Coulee Dam area. It's well laid out with spacious sites and very clean. Didn't use the restrooms so can't comment. The RV sites come in three price levels but I never did see one that wasn't mid-priced at $40/night. I felt that was a bit overpriced for the area, but the access to the lake is probably what most people are willing to pay for. We were there on a Thursday night in July and there were only about 5 or 6 sites open and none that could be rented for more than one night, so I strongly suggest you make reservations there in the summer. Great place for boaters and if you have one of the spots right near the water, most of the people seemed to be able to just tie their boats up right along the shore near their sites. As an overnight site, I would look for something cheaper, but if I were a boater looking for a vacation site I would stay again. We camped at Steamboat Rock State Park in a Truck Camper.

This park has new facilities and is in a beautiful setting. Sitting on the shore of Banks Lake there is a bike path connecting the different sections of the campground. The sites are large with good utilities but no Wi-Fi or cable. We had AT&T cell access. We camped at Steamboat Rock State Park in a Motorhome.
