Fall camping at the Hoh is awesome. The road in is 18 miles of twists and turns and one place has a washout, so drive safely and don't be in a hurry. Loop A is where you will find the most sun and Loop B, lots of shade and trees. (Loop A bathroom was closed due to needing repairs) Didn't check out Loop C. This is an older campground so sites are not built for long RVs and while we saw folks trying to squeeze into them, would suggest if your rig is over 34' that you come in and spend the day and then camp elsewhere. There is RV parking at the visitors center. BTW, if it sounds like someone is throwing rocks at your rig, its just the wind knocking the pine cones off the trees. I went looking for a fight after about the 3rd "rock" had hit us, and when I saw it was nothing more than pine cones, I had to laugh at myself. The little squirrels will quickly clean them up for you after giving you the what for. Very quiet otherwise. We camped at Hoh Rain Forest in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Make sure you hike one of the two trails. The area gets 12 feet of rain a year so bring a rain coat as your odds are really good you'll see some rain.

June 28,29 - Hoh Campground in the Hoh Rainforest, Olympic National Park, 88 sites, $10 with Golden Age Pass, bathhouse and water available, Bathhouse A is closed until redone. First Come. The dump station was closed. Site A25 a pull through right on the river, Great site, First Come and Self Registration. We arrived around 10am and snagged one of the best sites in the park. It was a pull through but close to the road. There are three loops here A, B and C. A and C have some sites overlooking the river. The very nice Hosts were located in loop B. Drive in and pick a site and leave something in the site. You have 30 minutes to register for your site and don't delay. The Rainforest Visitor Center and trails are a short walk away. Ranger walks, talks and night programs. Make sure you walk the Mosses Trail and take the off shoot to see the Maple Grove. Stunning! The second day we were there hiking the Spruce Trail, there was a bear and two cubs up in the tree about five feet from us. A few other hikers were there taking pictures. The mother bear was stripping the bark off while the cubs were running up and down the tree. Ten minutes later a ranger came and moved everyone along and tried to scare the bear to move. It seems that the day before they were close to another trail. Really enjoyed our stay here with the Elk, Cougars, Bears, Mountain Sheep and the baby Salmon in the river swimming around. Great stay! We camped at Hoh Rain Forest in a Motorhome.

I like the system used for determining if a spot is occupied, provided the occupant puts his card in the right slot. We found an empty spot (80), parked our 31' trailer in there. Someone had put their card for spot 88 in spot 80 slot. Camp host said we'd have to move. Moved to spot 39, had hard time leveling because the pea gravel kept sliding my leveling boards. Camp host was very helpful. Typical NPS park. Lots of shade and quiet.

Paved roads on all the loops. Some spots were near the river but you had to get their early to get them. First come first served campground. We camped at Hoh Rain Forest in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

The hikes from the visitor center are nice and well marked. Visitor center is in trailer temporarily. I liked the system for selecting a spot if it is done correctly. drawback: 18 miles to highway then 12 miles to Forks for grocery store. Get your groceries and Ice before you leave Fork.

Didn't stay this time, but walked through the campground. Some of the park literature needs to be updated because this campground would accommodate rigs much larger than the length stated in some of the brochures. There are both back-in and pull-thru sites with some right along the river. There were many sites that would have been fine for our 31' rig and tow without unhooking. Hate the drive into the park, but the campground is beautiful. We camped at Hoh Rain Forest in a Motorhome.
