Very convenient to I-5, Tacoma, Seattle,& other scenic sites. The setting is on American Lake which is a beautiful and sometimes busy lake. A great camp host assisted us with getting CATV connected, which was good because with all the overgrown trees there is no way we could have gotten satellite service! Our pull thru site was very long and spacious. The office staff was very helpful. That is as positive as I can get. Trees, brush, weeds are completely out of control. Bring some shears to cut the blackberry bushes back from your site. Laundry was barely tolerable. The washers had not been cleaned and made you feel that you needed to run a clorox rinse before you put your clothes in. In the middle of my drying cycle, while I was waiting outside, the cleaning crew came in and blocked the door with furniture and and "closed" sign for cleaning! The bathrooms were clean, but the lounge and laundry could use some attention. Do not reserve a lake front site expecting privacy. Especially site # 301, which appears to be a nice, long, pull thru lake front site seems to be the public access for the entire park to the lake. Adults, children, dogs, bikes are constantly going between, thru, around and sometimes OVER you to get to the water. PILES of chairs, floats, trash, dog and goose poop everywhere. While there is suppose to be no swimming except across the lake in designated swim area, that is not enforced. Nor are there any signs or attempts to make a public walkway if this is indeed not included with the site. NOISY party boats with music blasting and what appeared to be "over served" partiers very loud on the lake at times. On top of that row 300 is a one way "path" with all the sites facing away from the lake with hookups on the lake side and your door facing the street! I did notice a large number of what appeared to be full time, active duty homesteading there, even though a 2 week limit is stated. Totally needs some decent management!! We camped at Fort Lewis Travel Camp (Military FamCamp) in a Motorhome.

I will start with the positives: not too far off I-5, our pull thru was large enough to accommodate our 36' RV with small toad, plenty of trees around for shade, most sites have privacy. Check-in was very easy, there is a lake with beach & boat launch, laundry facility with TV inside that I have not used. Sites are paved as is the road, there are several recycle bins and garbage bins throughout the campground. It appears that the base is divided and to go to the BX, Comm., movies etc. you leave the north side, go under I-5 to another security point & show your military id's. A little different. Now my only beef is the so called CATV, for us and other campers it is non existent. The service is through Comcast and if you have an older TV you must use a special box to bring in the cable. 2 boxes later nothing. We have a small flat screen TV that is 3 years old and we could not bring in any channels. Spouse took box back to office and was told it was Comcast issue. Asked a few other campers and they also had the same issue. So, either get Comcast out to fix it or drop it from what you have to offer. We also put our antenna up and got 16 channels with Fox being the only known station. We camped at Fort Lewis Travel Camp (Military FamCamp) in a Motorhome.

We had reserved a 50 amp full hookup waterfront site 90 days before our stay and put a deposit down. When we arrived, we were given a 30 amp site adjacent to the busy main road that barely fit our 40' motorhome. The staff said whoever took our reservation probably just wanted to give us a site, any site, and wasn't paying attention to our request. Right! Other nearby campgrounds were booked because of the golf tournament in Chambers Bay. We stayed a week. Our site was overgrown with knee high weeds and dry grass. Previous campers had left trash (xmas lights, confetti, plastic cups and lids, dead flowers, kitty litter, dog poop, cigarette butts) all over the site. We had to rake. It was disgustingly dirty. The campground does not trim trees away from the roadway either, so our motorhome could not avoid hitting 3 branches on the way in and out. They do not enforce their own rules and turn a blind eye to unleashed dogs and multiple vehicles in their sites. The site next to us had two trucks, a boat and a motorcycle parked along with their 5th wheel. Lanes are paved and narrow, sites are paved requiring minimal leveling. Wi-Fi is only strong in or near the common rooms. Elsewhere it's nonexistent. No cable and with the trees, satellite reception isn't good. The only good things about this park were the price and proximity to Seattle and Tacoma. They take reservations but you can never be sure you'll end up getting what you actually reserved. Won't return. We camped at Fort Lewis Travel Camp (Military FamCamp) in a Motorhome.

Nice park. Easy to get to off I-5. A little tight but doable in our 39 ft RV. Some sites nicer than others, but could receive free WiFi at our site #121. Nice commissary and outdoor center. Will stay here again if we can get reservations. Very full right now! We camped at Fort Lewis Travel Camp (Military FamCamp) in a Fifth Wheel.

They messed up our reservations even though I had them repeat the reservation when I made it. They will not send confirmation e-mail so I called a week ahead of arrival to confirm only to find out they had shorted us a day but they were able to correct it. The Wi-Fi is a joke. It is 1 bar and my husband and I could not use our laptops at the same time. There were websites we go to (like our e-mail and bank) that we could not connect with. The people in the office were neutral - not friendly but not hostile. Did not appear to care if we were giving them business or not. The fold out couch beds in the cabins were not usable. They were like nightmare fold out beds like you see in the movies where everyone laughs when the bed is unfolded. We have stayed at several famcamps. This was not our favorite. Even at $22.50 a night, it wasn't worth it. Will probably find other accommodations the next time. We camped at Fort Lewis Travel Camp (Military FamCamp) in a Motorhome.
