We were looking for a CG in the general area to break up a long drive. We're self contained and don't use the facilities. We stayed on a weeknight in late July in our 25 foot MH. This CG is nicely situated on a hillside along the shore of Lake Roosevelt/Columbia River. The upper loop is newer and most sites are like a paved parking lot with a few trees or shelters (caution - most have ~10 feet clearance) for shade. We stayed in the lower lot which has gravel sites and a few more trees. Most are good size with some shade and little privacy and need some leveling. Most have views of the lake. There is no wifi. There's good ATT and Verizon coverage. We did not meet the host. We arrived at 5pm without reservations and were able to get a site. We camped at Spring Canyon USFS in a Motorhome.

Reading the other comments about larger rigs is spot on. The lower campground was too tight to fit our 32' and we ended up scraping on some trees. Went up above to the blacktop and were able to fit up there but I wouldn't bring anything much longer up there either. Beautiful area but the weekends are a mad house. Why have camp hosts if no one enforces rules? We had neighbors running their generator past 11 at night. I think a quick tour of the campgrounds about 10:30 pm is in order. Too many people ruin others evenings by ignoring quiet time. Also there are 10 people allowed per campsite. Seems like a lot. In addition there were signs posted about tents on the grass which were completely ignored by guests as well as camp staff. I would come here during the week but skip the weekend if you want to sleep well. We camped at Spring Canyon USFS in a Fifth Wheel.

This CG is NOT Big Rig friendly. We have a 36' long, wide body motor home and we got tree scratches driving thru this CG. A couple of sites might work for a 40' clunker you don't care about. But this CG is on a side hill and sites are far from level. The upper loop is good for up to 25' RV's or so, but we did see one MH that backed in until his rear tires hit the curb. They were 38' long or so. But no tag axle. The bottom loop, has the larger sites, it may say 40' on the reservation system, forget about it if you have a nice rig. Large boulders are used to define the sites. This makes opening compartment doors impossible. Trees overhang the interior road and on most sites, good for shade in small units, but not good for big rigs. Good cell and broadband coverage, no OTA TV reception. There were host's on duty, but we never saw them do anything. Our site had the expired camping permit from the previous campers making it appear occupied, plus trash in the fire ring and debris here and there on the site. Not the best NPS CG we have been to. Usually NPS hosts are right on top of things. We camped at Spring Canyon USFS in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Look before you leap here. Use your toad to check out sites before bringing in any large wide body MH or 5'th. Overhead branches are an issue. Hosts were never seen doing anything, so don't expect any help finding a site.

Federal NRA campground with so-so camp hosts; more interested in ensuring I filled out the response card than assisting with site selection. Most sites require some leveling and some even more so. Paved roads but gravel and/or dirt sites. Although they do not list pull thrus, we were able to utilize one that was evidently designed to park a car or truck for tenters. Not many sites occupied, perhaps a combination of Sunday, school restarting and a good deal of fire smoke (so much that I left the next morning and headed south!). Rest rooms basic but clean; also a pit toilet on the opposite side of the campground. A room with a utility sink is also available, most likely for cleaning fish, cooking utensils, etc. No official showers but I found you can go down to the beach area and use the outdoor rinse off shower for a quick clean. No hook ups but water spigots spaced throughout. Interestingly, there are still pay phones in a few locations, and they work! Lots of yellow jackets flying around and other, not so lucky ones, stuck in those hanging traps. Quail and deer traipsed through the campground in the early evening and morning. Ok if you're using the marine recreational opportunities of the lake or if you are a good dry camper. The full hook up sites are closer to the Grand Coulee dam. We camped at Spring Canyon USFS in a Motorhome.

$5 per night (that’s half off using our Golden Age Passport) was for a back-in primitive site with a fire ring and picnic table in the Spring Canyon campground. The lower campground sites are generously sized. Some sites are very level while others require substantial leveling. The upper campground seems to be mostly for cars with tents and has no fire rings. There are many trees throughout the campground but most sites have some sun at some point during the day. The view of Roosevelt Lake is magnificent and the coulees across the water are spectacular. There are several locations within the campground from which you can see the Grand Coulee Dam. There are a couple of grocery stores and decent restaurants in town. Being right on Roosevelt Lake makes for many water based activities, including beach areas. Bicycles are allowed on the roadways and several, but not all, trails. AT&T and Verizon are very good for cell and Internet connectivity. We camped at Spring Canyon USFS in a Motorhome.
