Fantastic campground. Very close to the water with a long beach to walk on - dogs allowed. The design of the sites was wonderful. They are back-in sites on a circle. Each pad is angled so that backing in is a straight shot off the circle. We have Verizon & could not get cell service where we were camped but it was available with a short drive. Although close to beach access, most sites were back in the trees protected from the wind. Many things to see in the State Park. We camped at Cape Disappointment State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Proximity to the beach is the star attraction. Unfortunately for us it was so windy it was not great. My wife would take the 5 minute walk over, but wouldn't stay because of the wind. I understand that weather is variable and have not downgraded the park because of this, just reporting our experience. The site we had was very nice, long asphalt pad with conveniently located hook ups that worked fine. There were some raised portions due to roots, but overall level. I mentioned the wind earlier, but the trees in the camping area we were in cut that to a gently breeze, so no mosquitos. We camped at Cape Disappointment State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

The hiking trails are nice but do not originate in the camping area. Trailheads are only 1/2 to a mile away but you must walk along the road that has no shoulder to get to them.

Our level, paved site was close to the beach. The yard was dirt/gravel with partial shade. We had no ATT signal, but could go to the park store and use their WiFi. We pulled in 2 OTA channels and were able to get a satellite signal. We could hear the surf from our spot and catch a glimpse of the waves through the trees. The park has several hiking trails and connects with the paved Discovery Trail, for walkers and bikers. We rode our bikes from the North House Lighthouse to Long Beach. Be sure to book early, as this park is very popular. Watch out for low branches on the park roads. We camped at Cape Disappointment State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

A wonderful park. Our serviced trailer site was 5 mins stroll from a wonderful, scenic beach and the site was reasonably private, quiet and level with partial tree cover. A nice park including two lighthouses (one with tours), hiking trails and a visitor center/museum. We enjoyed three nights there and hiked just about every trail. We are planning to return. Some folks have complained about mosquitoes but for the north west in June we thought they were no worse than anywhere else! We camped at Cape Disappointment State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Sites are very spacious with lots of room to spread out. Some sites are sunnier than others; ours was shady for most of the day. We had an end spot so we got extra wide area for our dogs to play around in. The sewer set up was a little awkward in that it was about 8 inches above ground level so you have to play around with the hose to flush everything out at the end of your stay. The beach was the star attraction for us. Tons of room for our dogs to run around; the surf was amazing. The washrooms and showers are excellent for a state park- very clean. Our site was not long enough for our truck and trailer so we had to disconnect and park a little sideways but there was plenty of room to do that. No service whatsoever. We camped at Cape Disappointment State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Grandkids love this place as there are so many places to explore, beach, rocks, bush trails and lots of other kids. This is one of our favourite spots! The Lewis and Clark Center is excellent. Astoria is very interesting especially the marine museum and public dock where dozens of noisy sea lions are resting and fighting! Long beach and area is cool. I could stay here for 2 weeks and still not see everything in this area!

Huge spaces with plenty of room, we barely noticed we had neighbors on both sides. Several short trails from the campground to the beach. The ranger program was interesting and informative. We didn't use the bathrooms and showers since we have our own. A very quiet park, we could hear the ocean from our site. We would definitely camp here again. We were looking forward to our first visit to this park but in the end were disappointed. Pros: nicely wooded park with easy access to ocean. Level sites, good electric, bathrooms dated but clean. Cons: mosquitos, mosquitos, mosquitos. Every time we stepped outside we were attacked. Talked to a worker who said this is the worst he's seen the mosquitos in ten years at the park. Each bathhouse has two toilets and only one shower, a little lacking for this large a park. During our stay it was about 75% tents thus bathrooms got a lot of use, and dirtier as day went on. Showers were 50 cents for 3 minutes. No cell (verizon) or internet signal, however cell towers were being added during our stay so this may improve. Liked the park but would have to think hard about coming again due to mosquitoes. We camped at Cape Disappointment State Park in a Motorhome.

June 21,22 Cape Disappointment State Park (formerly Fort Canby), Ilwaco, Washington 1,700 acres and 250 sites $45 for out of state Site 21 This is a beautiful state park where the campsites are in in 18 loops with nine sites each. Full hookups, dump station, and no hookup sites. Bathhouses shared by three loops with pay showers. Checkin was easy and hosts were informative. Located in this huge state park is a boat launch on the bay, a store, restaurant near entrance, coast guard house and training, fishing, jetty, beaches, two lighthouses, whales off the coast, hiking, dogs allowed on the beaches, great place to ride bikes, viewpoints, birdwatching and kite flying. It is located on the Pacific and Columbia River with high waves and is known as the Graveyard of the Pacific. Waikiki Beach on the bay is like a painting with high cliffs, swimming, a lighthouse perched on the cliff, caves and ships sailing by near the jetty. The Lewis and Clark Interpretive Center sits high on a cliff but the parking lot is small. No RV's unless you can fit into a parking spot. One can also hike up there. Following 101 to the park after crossing over from Astoria you go past Fort Columbia (fee), another fort restored overlooking the Columbia River. There is RV parking. We were one loop away from the sites looking out to the ocean but there is so much wind there we were glad our loop was back from the beach. A recent negative review of this park complained about bugs and electric problems. We did not have electric problems. Our site was not on the ocean but one loop away and the wind must have kept the bugs away. Yes, we did not have service but at the jetty and Waikiki Beach we had three bars. Great stay! We camped at Cape Disappointment State Park in a Motorhome.

We really enjoyed our stay here. Because of the setup, the back to the site was quick and easy. Beach access was close by and the site was nice and roomy. Mosquitoes were prevalent so bring repellent. Our trailer fit under the trees ok and we couldn't raise our TV antenna. The sewer access is in the far corner on every site that I saw and was a reach for us. Showers are concrete floor. 50 cents for three minutes. We paid $208 for five nights with power and water, including an $8 reservation "fee". Unlike some of the other Washington State park facilities, this one has tempered (warm) water at the restroom sinks which I really like as we basically depend on the restrooms when travelling in our small trailer. They also have genuine glass mirrors which is much better than scuffed-up metal ones! We camped at Cape Disappointment State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

We especially enjoyed riding our bikes on the Discovery Trail, some 8 miles of asphalt-paved trail about 10-foot-wide. The trail offers wonderful views of the ocean, grassy dunes and forest groves. The trail has lots of ups and downs and sometimes tight corners that force you to slow down; we thought it was great fun. Additional to the towns and attractions on the Long Beach peninsula, there are many museums and attractions on the Oregon side. Astoria, OR is about half an hour from the campground.

Beautiful park. My lower rating is for a few reasons. We are full time so having a site with power is a luxury. 30 amp. Hardly. We were in site 67 and we were continually going outside to reset after running two items, fridge and hot water heater. Turn on a couple lights (ours are all led) click, no power. Over and over. They tried to fix it but everyone in our loop was having the same problem. No Internet and no phone service. So if you're here solely to get away from it all, this is a great spot. As long as you don't mind swarms of mosquitoes. We camped at Cape Disappointment State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

This is a state park. As such, it doesn't have the amenities of lots of parks. But, good source of water, power, and sewer hook up. No Wi-Fi, but it is worth it. The sites are lined with pine trees, very private, with each site large and well separated. You are just a stone's throw off the beach and easy drive into Ilwaco and Long Beach. We love staying here. Date of Stay: April, 2017 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

This is a beautiful state park, with a lovely campground. Lewis and Clark might have been disappointed when they got here, but we definitely weren't. It rained the entire time we were here (late March/early April), but that's the PNW coast, especially this year. Loop A is where all the action is. The sites with hookups and the beach access are all in this loop. As a result, when we were there, Loop A was about 3/4 full during the week, and completely full on the weekend. The rest of the campground had exactly one tent pitched and one fiver parked (the host, I assume). The sites, all back in, are arranged in little looplets. As a result, we had loads of space in between sites, and our patio side didn't really face the site next door. We sat in our rig in the rain watching the deer forage, not our next door neighbor's sewer hose. The downsides...No Verizon. There was reception down at the office, or at the little store, and up on the hill by the lighthouses. We ended up spending most of one trip to a lighthouse doing email, phone calls, and texting instead of looking at the beautiful view. No OTA TV, either. The other, kind of weird downside is when we went to check in, the office was closed, and there was a sign saying to use the "yellow phone" to check in. The yellow phone was out in the wind and rain, and checking in took about an hour. Or so it seemed, because I was standing there freezing. It was probably more like ten minutes. Further into the campground, there was a little sign that said that if we had reservations (we did), we could have just gone straight to the site. I wish we had known that. All in all, though, this place is fantastic. We'll be back. We camped at Cape Disappointment State Park in a Motorhome.
