Overall Rating:

We were looking for a place to stay that would be convenient to hiking in the northern part of Olympic NP. We're self contained and don't use the facilities. We stayed 4 nights in early August, including the weekend, in our 25 foot MH. This is a pleasant CG and met our needs. There are 5 loops. All have sites that vary in size significantly with only a few that would accommodate a rig larger than 25 feet. Most sites need some leveling, most have a mixture of sun and shade throughout the day. Some are more private than others. There are no hookups. Water is available near the bathrooms or near the amphitheater. We arrived at lunchtime on a Wednesday and had several nice sites to select from. The CG filled most nights by late afternoon. There is no wifi. There is good Verizon and ATT coverage. We camped at Heart O' The Hills Campground (NPS Campground) in a Motorhome.

3 loops, with a 31' trailer our site options were limited. I wouldn't want to bring a big rig or a big 5th wheel in here. Saw several Class C rentals in here. Typical NPS park, no hookups, no close neighbors, wasn't very crowded in late August. Burn ban in effect due to all the fires. From web site-RVs: Sites for 21 feet. We camped at Heart O' The Hills Campground (NPS Campground) in a Travel Trailer.

This is one of several campgrounds in Olympic National Park. Heart O' the Hills is the nearest campground to Port Angeles and provides easy access to Hurricane Ridge. There are no hook-ups here and the closest dump station would most likely be found in Port Angeles or you can use the one at Fairholme Campground (another NPS campground) on the west end of Lake Crescent. There are restrooms with sinks and flush toilets, but no showers. As with many NPS campgrounds, Heart O' the HIlls is best suited to those with smaller rigs. The park's web site says "RV: Sites for 21 feet, a few for 35 feet." The roads are narrow and of course there are lots of trees. There are some pull through sites available but most sites are back-in and many are very un-level. We camped here for two nights in mid-week and had our choice of spots, selecting a nice pull-through near the restrooms. Even mid-week it's a good idea to get here early though to get the best selection because sites are first-come, first-served.

We enjoyed this campground for its beauty, peace and quiet, and good access to Hurricane Ridge and would definitely stay here again. Our rate reflects a 50% discount for having the federal Senior Access Pass. We camped at Heart O' The Hills Campground (NPS Campground) in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Don't miss the drive to the Visitor Center at Hurricane Ridge to see spectacular views of the Olympic Mountains and the Strait of Juan de Fuca. Trails lead off from there and many are paved and wheel chair accessible for at least part of their distance. A beautiful, but moderately difficult 3 mile round trip trail to Hurricane Hill leaves from the end of the road past the Visitors Center. There is also an easy forest walk that takes off from Loop E in the campground.
