We have stayed here many times and we like this park. It ain't fancy, but it has everything you need. Utilities work great. Nice laundry room with machines that don't rip you off. Shady spacious sites and definitely big rig friendly. Nice management who called us prior to our arrival to let us know it was going to be hot; she asked if we wanted to be put in a 50 amp site! Now that's great service! No cable TV. WiFi worked very well most of the time. Walk to everything in town. We will always stay here when visiting Mt Rainier NP. We camped at Packwood RV Park and Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

This is an older campground but it was nice and provided everything we needed: full hook-ups, shady site, good wifi, nice laundry facilities. Office staff was friendly and helpful. We were in site 10 which requires you to drive between 2 large trees but we had no problems getting our 31 foot Class C into the space. We camped at Packwood RV Park and Campground in a Motorhome.

Close to Mt. Rainer entrance. Cruisers Pizza in Packwood has excellent pizza. Mountain Goat Coffee Shop and Bakery is good too.

We wanted a pull thru. The fellow at the office (a temp) didn't really understand the park. He assigned #10 which required us to drive between two tall trees that were real close together - too close for comfort with a big rig. We elected to back-in to #8. The site required leveling. Hook-ups were fine. The WiFi was excellent. In the early morning, if you ventured outside, there might be many elk meandering in the park. Go see Mt Rainier nearby. Many fishing places nearby as well. Negative - when I climbed on the roof to check for debris, I noted three power/telephone lines about 1 foot above the roof. I didn't care for that. Plan for some mosquitos. Having said all this, we would stay here again. We camped at Packwood RV Park and Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Use Blanton's in town for groceries. Adequate, a bit pricey. Packwood is a small town. Not much in way of restaurants. Best to plan for your own meals.

Pros: This is the closest full-hookup park to the east entrance to Mt Ranier National Park. Our site was long and level, mostly grass with some gravel. The WiFi was fast and dependable, the best we've ever experienced in an rv park. We had ample room because they were placing folks in every other site. Walking the dogs was pleasant, as most of the park was empty. Our site was shady. Cons: Everything in the park is old and not well-maintained. There were a few rotting picnic tables scattered about, but none at our site. The grounds and out-buildings need to be decluttered and spruced up. However, the entire town of Packwood has the same feel. There is no cable and no tv, and satellite couldn't get a signal due to thick trees. Overall, we would stay here again. It is a base camp, not a destination. We camped at Packwood RV Park and Campground in a Travel Trailer.

There are no frills in this campground. It was our only choice or we probably wouldn't have stayed here. Luckily we didn't have to use any of their facilities. The campsites were spacious but unlevel and of dirt/grass. Because it was early in the season, we had the place to ourselves; but if it were crowded, it would have been an unpleasant place. The sites looked like they were placed very randomly. The price was good. We camped at Packwood RV Park and Campground in a Motorhome.

We stayed here because we wanted to see Mt. Rainier National Park. It was about a 45 minute drive to the park entrance on very rugged roads. The park itself is beautiful and worth the visit.

Overall Rating:

The nearest commercial park to the east entrance of Mt. Rainier NP, this campground is sadly short of it's potential. The park is run-down, dirty and neglected. It was also mostly empty during the heart of the summer when the Mt. Rainier wildflowers are at their finest. There is free wifi, but it was barely usable and Verizon data was only 1x, though cell service was fine.

On the positive side, the little town of Packwood is very close and kind of cute. The library next door has 24-hour free wifi and we used it often (there always seemed to be a few people there using it too). Mt. Rainier is fairly close and a beautiful drive to get there. Not many choices in this area as the nearby La Wis Wis National Forest CG is limited to smaller RVs, as are the NP campgrounds. We camped at Packwood RV Park and Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

The Packwood visitors center is just up the street and the volunteer there was tremendously helpful in planning adventures in Mt. Rainier NP and Mt. St. Helens NM. Don't miss the drive to Windy Ridge, the closest vantage point to Mt. St. Helens by car.

Very old park. Low voltage. Probably would choose a different park next time. Stayed here due to Passport America, but they have since dropped their membership. Easy to find and good location. Staff very nice and helpful. Elk visit campground daily. We camped at Packwood RV Park and Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Very old neglected park. It's only good feature is proximity to Mt Rainier south entrance. Management is friendly but that doesn't offset park's dismal lack of maintenance. Also Management is inflexible and not customer service oriented.

Warning signs to pick up dog poop but there are piles of elk poop everywhere. We camped at Packwood RV Park and Campground in a Travel Trailer.

The park is halfway between Mt Rainier and Mt St Helens...great spot. All sites are grass and gravel, but many with a concrete patio. Most are fairly spacious. Because of the age of the park, many of the connections were built to service 2 sites from one spot, causing some sites to have to connect from the passenger side. All in all, an average park. I agree with all the other reviews. This is a old funky park. I was told they have new owners now and at the moment they do not take credit cards. Cash or checks only. Not all of the park has cable TV or Wi-Fi so be sure to ask if needed. The cable is hanging from poles and a little hard to understand. When I could not get my cable to work the office sent over the on site maintenance man and he resoled the problem. The sewer hookups are at the back of most sites so a long hose is needed if your dump vales are not in the rear of your coach. I also needed a long water hose for the site I was in. Bath rooms and showers were old but clean. Cable and Wi-Fi worked surprising well at our site. I would stay here again unless the price goes up with the new owners. This is the closest full service park to Mount Rainer. We camped at Packwood RV Park and Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

This is obviously an old park, with mostly shaded sites, that were fairly level, with full hookups. But the hookups were very strangely laid out, as the electric for our site was being used by one of the neighbors, so we had to use the one for the vacant site behind us.

This park has been sold with big upgrade plans, which are badly needed, but I'm quite sure this will also come with a big jump in prices, as I was told it will be a KOA. The best parts of this place are the elk that wander through the park, and the proximity to Mt Rainier and Mt St. Helens

One of the main reasons we stayed here was the Passport America rate, with the new presumed much higher rate, we would probably not stay here again. We camped at Packwood RV Park and Campground in a Motorhome.

We stayed here 3 nights to visit Mt Rainier NP and Mt St Helen's NM. The sites are a mix of grass, gravel, and cement, but are roomy. The sites are easy to get into and out of even for large Motor Homes like ours, that being said, there is only 30 amp available. The park is under new management with plans to do upgrades. The wifi was decent even though the office lady said it wasn't working. It is very convenient to Mt Rainier NP and less than 50 miles from Mt St Helen's, if you go in the back way, which by the way, gets you closer to the Mt than the other entrance. Every evening Elk would wander through the park. We would stay there again. We camped at Packwood RV Park and Campground in a Motorhome.

Little gem in the West. Convenient to both Mt. Ranier and Mt. St. Helens. Park situated in a grove, park-like setting. Sites are level but a mixture of grass, gravel, and pavement. 30 amp service only. Staff is very helpful and friendly. The city of Packwood is noted for the GIANT flea market which occurs on Memorial Day and Labor Day, where the flea market takes over the main highway and surrounding streets and any open space available. It's quite a site, but traffic is reduced to a trickle. But best of all was the small herd of elk which nibbled their way through the campground in the evenings. Great place. Definitely recommend. Price reflects Passport America discount. We camped at Packwood RV Park and Campground in a Motorhome.
