Very nice park and well maintained in all areas. Bathrooms clean. Nice grass area for outdoor activities, yet lots of "woodsy" type sites. Great fishing and nice swimming area. We camped at Alta Lake State Park in a Tent Trailer.

This park got great reviews in two of our camping guide books, so we decided to give it a try, but were somewhat disappointed. On the plus side, the park is pretty, nestled along the shore of Alta Lake with some sites in the pines and some in more open, and exposed areas closer to the lake. There are three loops. Loop 1 is in the woods with a variety of site sizes. It's pretty and there is some privacy, but you have to walk a ways to the lake. Loop 3 is also in the woods and has some pretty sites, but most are very small and suitable only for tent campers. Loop 2 is more open and down near the lake with some sites being right on the shoreline. There is not much privacy in this loop and the access road is narrow with tight corners. Some of the sites here are large and some are quite small. Most of these sites would be very hot in the summer, but of course you could always cool off with a swim in the lake! This loop also has some electric/water hook-up sites in what is basically a parking lot, but if you're OK with that you would have some views of the lake. On the negative side, this park now uses Washington State Parks' new variable pricing structure with different fees for Popular, Basic ,and Economy sites which you have to sort out for yourself. Also, there is no way to know which sites are available for the night except by copying down the list of open sites posted at the unstaffed entrance station, then drive to pick out your site and then walk or drive all the way back to the entrance station to put your fee in the drop-box. Why not have a drop box in each loop? Washington State Parks are increasingly understaffed with systems that are not designed for the ease of the camper. This campground has flush toilets and coin-op showers. The showers were clean but definitely showing their age. The lake is pretty, but there are lots of summer homes lining the far shore that detracts from the natural beauty in my opinion. Fishing is good judging by the success of the folks in our neighboring campsite. We camped at Alta Lake State Park in a Travel Trailer.

After we arrived at this park, we had to go back and see if we had read the prior reviews correctly and were at the right park! There was only one loop open when we stayed here off season. The signage in the park is very confusing. In trying to check out another loop we ended up driving through the park and into a residential area. Although the arrows indicate otherwise, loops 2 and 3 are right across the entrance road from each other. If you go past the entrance to these loops you will be on a very narrow road with little space to turn around if you are towing. There are some sites with electric hookups. In loop 2, the hookup sites are in a row, with little separation, in a parking lot. Most of the non-hookup sites in this loop are very short or not level. We were lucky and were able to maneuver our smaller RV into a dry camping site with decent views. This park has a very neglected feel; it could use some TLC. The lake is small with part of it on private land with houses visible from the park. On the positive side, there were only two other campers in the park and it was nice and quiet at night. Our Verizon phone worked well and we were able to use our data plan with 3G signal. We were able to get satellite, but most sites would not. Washington has some wonderful state parks, many in this area. We would bypass this park and stay at a different state park next time. We camped at Alta Lake State Park in a Motorhome.

Beautiful park in the mountains. This campground recently went on the reservation system and they are still working on how to deal with this. The park does not put out reservation cards. You check for your reservation on a posted list and then hope nobody took your spot anyway. Even though you have a paid reservation, you are still required to fill out a green and white pay envelope, basically just to say, "I showed up." If you don't have a reservation, you check the "available" list. There are three camping loops. Two of the loops have both tent and RV ( water and electric only) sites, the third loop has tent only, although smaller RV's could fit in some of the tent sites if you don't want hookups. Each site has a picnic table and fire pit. However, at the time I was here, all fires were banned. In the loop closest to the lake, the tent and RV sites are quite close together, with neighbors in your face. The tent sites closest to the lake have lake access, and it appears you are allowed to anchor your boat near your site. The RV slots in this same loop are all "Back-in." There is room for your slides, but you are still close to your neighbor. In the other loops, the RV sites and tent sites get some privacy via separation with lots of vegetation. In these loops, the RV sites are both back-in and pull through. In one loop, try to avoid RV site #1 and RV site #45, as both of those sites are right next to the path to the bathroom. The tent sites in all three loops have different configurations. Some you may like, some you might not. A few of the tent sites are paired for "buddy" camping. Some of the tent sites are very LONG tent sites; i.e., you park your car here and "hike it down" about 500 feet. The bathrooms in each loop weren't the cleanest I have ever seen. The toilet seemed to be "yellow" but this could have been the water quality. There are two very nice "Group Camp" areas. One is grassy with some trees for shade, the other is more woodsy and has more shade. From what I heard, the Group Camp sites are hard to get on weekends, as they are booked nine months in advance. The Day Use area has a very nice swimming beach. During summer season, a private vendor sells hot dogs, taquitos, ice cream cones, snow cones, soda pop, suntan lotion, and ice. He also sells used paperback books for $1.50 each, but if you have some to trade, he will let you just "swap." Verizon cellular modem barely works in the lake loop, it fades in and out. Better signal in the other loops. Showers are 50 cents for three minutes, typical of Washington State Parks. One bad thing, the park apparently gets wild fluctuations in voltage in the RV (utility) sites. We camped at Alta Lake State Park in a Motorhome.

This state park has 3 sections of camp sites. There is a large green park like area where we saw tents, another area is in the pines with rv parking and tent sites. This area has numerous sites but only about 10 hookups with a restroom and showers. Further up the road is Alta Lake with tent sites along the lake and rv hookups above them. We opted for the pines since the rv sites at the lake were more like being in a VERY tight parking lot. Didn't see any awnings or slides out and I doubt it was even possible. People were on the lake water skiing, riding jet skis and in other areas, fishing.. There is a store there that carries food, ice, and fishing tackle. Might go back during the off season. That rate listed is for a utility site and there is also a dump station there. We camped at Alta Lake State Park in a Motorhome.
