Our only complaint about this park was that the sites are very close together in the terraced view area. Our 39 ft fifth wheel fit into our space but was too close to allow us to use the fire pit which we noticed with several other larger units. The water and electricity were well located and worked perfectly. Verizon cell and Wifi are provided by a Canadian service so you need to be sure that you either have international or be willing to pay big bucks. Once you're out on Hwy 101 American Verizon service returns. There was OTA television from Canada. There are a multitude of beautiful walking trails all around the park. The Crescent Beach day area is walkable from the park. It is about a 30-minute drive into Port Angeles which is a good-sized city as well as the visitor center for Olympic National Park. We had limited view from the middle row of the terrace. If you have a large rear window the upper tier would be the best and if your window is over the front the bottom row would be the best for view. As it turned out, it was foggy most of the time so so no one had a view. We would definitely stay at this park again if we were in the area. We camped at Salt Creek Recreation Area in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Be sure to look at the site specifications on the website as it will tell you how much overhang beyond the bumper stop is available for larger rigs. We had a wonderful meal at Kokopelli restaurant in Port Angeles. There is a very small farmers market in Port Angeles on Saturday morning.

Great rv park overlooking the straits and from our site, we had a great view.Sites 6 to 32 are tiered, and have views of the straits. Sites 52 to 92 are in a heavily treed area and are larger and give more privacy, but no views. Hookups were fine and nice level site. There are black tail deer wandering around the park, and some nice trails with great views of the straits. As others said, be careful of the cell phone service, since it is a Canadian tower. My wife said she had great service and called our daughter everyday. I told her I shut off international data roaming on my phone and had no service, so guess who got a huge bill from ATT? Be warned. If we knew how nice this park was, we probably would have stayed longer. We saw Crescent Beach from one of the trails, and it looked very nice, but not accessible from the trail. We camped at Salt Creek Recreation Area in a Motorhome.

July 9, 10, partial hookups, back-in overlooking the Strait of Juan De Fuca. $30, 92 sites and 39 with water and electric. Restrooms with coin-operated showers This county park which was an old fort is located On the Strait of Juan De Fuca and Crescent Bay. Some of the RV sites (all sizes) overlook the Strait and Victoria on Vancouver Island, Canada. Sites are close together but some of the tent sites are very spacious. Small units can fit in the no hookups sites and there were a couple of sites for big RV's. The park has the campground, day use area, steps down to explore the tidepools, a huge beach on the lake and Camp Hayden WW 2 bunker sites to explore. The park is on 198 acres with basketball, volleyball, horseshoes, softball and play areas. The tidepools are very interesting . Whales are spotted off the shore as well as Turkey Vultures, Orcas, and many birds like Bald Eagles. It is on the birding trail. One can kayak, scuba dive, surf and mountain bike here. We enjoyed our site looking out to the Strait where we could see Vancouver Island and watch the shipping lane with tankers, cruise ships, private boats and the ferries. Many sites can be reserved but there are a number of sites that are first come. Check out time is 1. We camped here two nights and it seems the weekend was full but there were sites available during the week. GPS may try to take you to a private campground so make sure you put in Salt Creek Recreational Area. Good stay! We camped at Salt Creek Recreation Area in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

It is the closest point between Victoria and the State of Washington and one can drive to Port Angeles to take a daily foot ferry over to the island.

Incredibly beautiful setting. Great views of San Juan de Fuca, 5 stairways to tidal pools, short hiking trails, whale watching. The Rangers were friendly and helpful. This is one of the best places we have ever stayed at. We camped at Salt Creek Recreation Area in a Motorhome.

RV sites are very close together. The sites facing the Straits of Juan de Fuca are on three tiers. The lower tier (first come, first serve) have the best view, the middle tier view is blocked by the lower tier, and the upper tier has a good view. There's plenty of places to walk around the park. They also have a very nice playground with modern equipment for the kids. Our Verizon router was spotty but we did end up with a fair internet connection. Our AT&T cell phones had no service. Our fire ring was underneath the corner of our rig so was unusable. We barely had room for our 32' MH and toad but we made it fit. We camped at Salt Creek Recreation Area in a Motorhome.

We love this park! Made reservations for 3 nights, stayed 7 and are already planning our return. Extremely clean grounds, nice/helpful Rangers on staff. We turned off phones and electronics to ensure we didn't pick up a Canadian tower and instead, we went tide pooling, hiking, explored and enjoyed the incredible area. We camped in a 35' motor home plus toad and there were larger rigs than we are. Neighbor is relatively nearby but because the way the park is tiered, we did not feel cramped and our forward view was spacious and spectacular. Busy on the weekend but quiet at night. Highly recommend, We would rank Salt Creek in our top 3 most favorite campgrounds in the US! We camped at Salt Creek Recreation Area in a Motorhome.

Hurricane Ridge if you haven't been in the area previously, driving to the top of Deer Park Road is a must! (Note: Deer Park paved first 8 miles, unpaved last 8 miles. 360 views from top and almost heaven on earth.

We've stayed at Salt Creek numerous times. What we love most about it are the beautiful views across the Strait of Juan de Fuca and the easy access to the interesting beach and tide pools. What we like least is how close you are to your neighbors!

There are two sections to this campground. Sites #1 to #51 are up on a high exposed bluff. Of those sites, #33 to #39 are pull-through, while #1 to #32 are back-in. Sites #6 to #32 are arranged on terraces so that theoretically every site will have a view. Be aware though that depending on what kind of rig you have you may end up without a view. For example, we stayed in site #17 which put the large front windows of our trailer facing the view (albeit over the top of our truck). If we had taken one of the sites in the upper terrace (#25 to #32) the back of our trailer with its tiny window would have been facing the view. This is because of the direction of the traffic flow. So if in doubt, when making a reservation, ask! We camped during a very stormy few days and so the campground was not crowded and we were able to pick a spot that worked well for us without a reservation.

There is another section of the campground that is down closer to the water where sites #52 to #92 are located. These sites are nestled in the woods and some have views, but many do not. They're pretty, but can be dark on rainy or cloudy days and they're not suitable for large rigs. There are no hook-ups in the lower loop. We camped at Salt Creek Recreation Area in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

A side trip out to the small communities of Clallam Bay, Sekiu and the Makah Indian Reservation is well worth it for the stunning views of the Strait of Juan de Fuca. With a permit from the Makahs you can hike out to Cape Flattery, the most north-westerly point in the lower 48 states.

We stayed for 5 days in our 40' RV. There was no check-in due to our having reservations online and our name was on the camp post at our spot. Getting to our site was easy and pulling in was not a problem although the sites are close to one another. There is no logic to who stays in the pull-through spaces since we saw vans and pop up trailers in the spaces. Our hookups were located in the right location and they were in working order. Our Verizon hotspot worked surprisingly great for not having a town close by. Our satellite worked fine even though there were a lot of trees around. There are some amazing views of the ocean, and hiking trails. This park has some history of military with a large bunker and observation bunker. This park is quiet on weekdays but, the weekends are a nightmare, barking dogs, screaming kids, kids on bikes, people walking through your camp, no regard for privacy, bathrooms are outdated like most state parks. The volunteers are friendly and will bring firewood to your camp. We camped at Salt Creek Recreation Area in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

You can watch cruise ships and submarines go by the Strait of Juan De Fuca that separates the United States and Canada, which you can see clearly from your camp. Lots of Kodak spots on the hiking trails and coastline.

We were so happy to find this beautiful park located on the Strait of Juan de Fuca. We were initially concerned that we wouldn't be able to find a site large enough for our 45 foot motorhome. However, we were pleasantly surprised to find several sites that would accommodate us (the pull thru sites 33-39). They are a bit narrow but more than long enough. We ended up using a fire pit on a tent site across from us as our fire pit was under our slide. Except for the lack of cell and internet coverage, this place is almost perfect. We were there after the camping season had slowed down so it was very quiet. The views of the strait cannot be beat. We loved getting up in the morning with a cup of coffee and watching all the ships - when it wasn't foggy! Even when it was foggy it was fun to listen to the fog horns. Viewing the tide pools and surrounding islands is almost surreal. We had a hard time leaving and would definitely return. We camped at Salt Creek Recreation Area in a Motorhome.

Pay attention to previous posts. The cell phones only work from Canada and will cost a small fortune if you don't turn them off. US cell service OK at gate up on top of park. No TV on antenna. Only 4 or 5 pull through sites. Front row with the best view is first come first serve so you might get lucky and pull in right as someone leaves. Tent sites are in the woods but you could dry camp a 25 foot trailer or class C. No sewer at site but dump station is in park. At low tide(only) you can get to the water from the tent area. The RV area is on a cliff with a fantastic view from all sites. We camped at Salt Creek Recreation Area in a Motorhome.

Incredible view over Puget Sound here! If you are a bit athletic, you can even climb down to the tide pools, but be warned there is a lot of fog here. Paved roads and paved sites, although a bit close together compared to a lot of public campgrounds. (This is owned by the county.) Location is close to Hoh Valley and Neah Bay, and not too bad a drive into Port Angeles. BIG WARNING, however, is that your cell phone and mobile hotspot will likely roam into Canada from this campground. I logged in $50 worth in just a few minutes while first being told on the phone by Verizon that my hotspot could not roam and then being told it could! I turned off roaming on my cell phone, but that meant I could not get any service at all much of the time--just a slight signal occasionally. Luckily Verizon reversed my charges but I could easily have spent a lot more without knowing it. We camped at Salt Creek Recreation Area in a Motorhome.

Arrived at this park without reservation on a Thursday at 11 am. As I was pulling in, another rig was pulling out and I grabbed site 7..front row on a low bluff, with full on view of Strait of Juan de Fuca..with all the boat traffic and ambiance. While many sites are reserved well in advance, there are a dozen or so sites left for first come first served. The entire waterfront row is non-reserved. Weekends were packed. Most weekdays filled by mid-afternoon. Saw several 'locals' who know the system pull a car into an open site, put their paid tag on dash then get picked up and come a day or two later with their rig. Locking up an otherwise available spot. Many families, yet quiet at night. Park gate closes at 10 pm. 14 day max stay. A nice separation of tent sites from RV sites. A large park, with mostly open RV and wooded tent sites. Concrete pad with grass strip between sites. Picnic table and fire ring. 50 amp and water. Dump station with lots of blue boys being hauled around, Playground, Hiking, and Tide pools. In my opinion, sites are snug for big rigs, as our fiver and truck barely fit without hanging into road. Width gets friendly if your neighbor is big and you both have slides. Fire ring ended up about 3' from back corner of our rig. RV sites are set in three rows, each higher than the one in front. AT&T OK about 1/2 mile from park entrance, then bounces over to Canada tower, both voice and data. Verizon Mi-Fi internet was also on Canadian towers so all were OFF in park. Satellite TV OK from most RV sites. OTA antenna was Canadian. Heavy fog some days..fog horns sounding from passing ships..you swore they were going to hit you! Great location for day trips into National Park, Cape Flattery, Port Angeles, Sol Duc hot springs, and Hurricane Ridge. Would definitely come back. We camped at Salt Creek Recreation Area in a Fifth Wheel.

We have been to Salt Creek Recreational Area many times and it never disappoints. When the regular coastal fog clears, there are wonderful views of the Strait of Juan De Fuca. You can pass the time watching cruise ships and huge tankers on the horizon. A few short steps down to the water's edge is a prime place to catch the sunrise and sunset. Nearby Tongue Point also provides for breathtaking views. Don't expect Wi-Fi connectivity, the park does not provide it, and unless you want to pay huge international roaming fees from Canada, you won't have cell service most of the time. There are no sewer hookups although there is a dump station. There is a nice mix of RV and tent campers and all are well behaved. In the space where we stayed, there was ample room for slideouts, awnings, and parking for our towed vehicle. Do check their web site for specific info, as spaces vary in size and amenities. We will revisit any chance we get. We can't say enough good things about the little haven. We camped at Salt Creek Recreation Area in a Motorhome.

Beautiful coastal views and tide pools! The campground itself is in a historic site with WWII gun emplacements on display - a great history lesson. Site in the campground vary widely. We stayed in the wooded section of the park where there are no hookups. Sites are tight for RVs, but privacy is high due to many trees. Non-hook up sites seem intended for tenters but we chose this section of the park rather than the open bluff area with hookups. Views from the bluff area are spectacular but privacy is non-existent. The park was packed with families and kids during our visit. We camped at Salt Creek Recreation Area in a Travel Trailer.
