We loved it because it is very wooded, lots of room between sites and privacy with lots of bushes and trees. Only 49 sites. Probably not a good spot for a huge motor home. Too many tree branches not huge sites. 2 tokens for showers. Takes a while to get hot water. We really enjoyed our stay. We camped at Manchester State Park in a Travel Trailer.

We just completed our 4th annual weekend at Manchester. We keep going back because we love the large, private, wooded sites and the how incredibly quiet it is! Nice place to walk along the water, watch the ferry come and go explore tide pools. We camped at Manchester State Park in a Travel Trailer.

This is a small state park on the water, not far from Seattle. It is clean and well maintained. Privacy is fairly good, with bushes/shrubs between spaces. There is a small beach and a number of hiking/biking trails. I stayed here for a couple of days. We camped at Manchester State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Overall Rating:

Price includes out of state and reservation fees. A very pretty, quiet, Washington state park with some really interesting history and friendly hosts/volunteers/Rangers. Great location with easy (and cool) ferry rides to Seattle. Unfortunately, it really isn't big rig friendly. The road through the park has tight turns with trees very close to the road and lots of low hanging branches. From the web site descriptions and lengths, several of the sites appear to be able to handle big rigs, but after seeing them in person, most are not. Our site (6), while very long, was a V shape with a large tree right in the middle which made pulling through impossible. We also had to bring out the ladder and pruning sheers to trim back branches in our site. Several back-in sites had trees very close to the road making maneuvering in difficult. All sites are very shaded which is nice for cooler temps. No satellite reception, and barely usable Verizon coverage. Most sites are not close to being level. Pull-through site 9 is probably the best site for big rigs in the park if you must stay here. If you don't mind tree branches scraping against your big rig, and are proficient in maneuvering in tight places, this park will be fine. Otherwise, I wouldn't suggest anything larger than 36-38' here (and tree branch scrapes would still apply). We camped at Manchester State Park in a Motorhome.

We stayed two nights and had a delightful stay. Staff very friendly. They even were trimming bushes at 8:00pm. Very woody sites, nice path to beach. Restrooms very clean so we'd stay here again. We camped at Manchester State Park in a Motorhome.

We enjoy the unique sea life in tide pools at low tide. A great combination of wooded hiking and Puget Sound beach access.

Small quiet and historical. Large brick open air building for special occasions. Day picnics by the waterside. Grassy play areas. We camped at Manchester State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Historical downtown Port Orchard with many quaint shops and restaurants. The best candy and toy shop ever. Follow beach drive several mikes to the only stop light and you are in the center of town. Also known as "Cedar Cove" to literary and TV series fans.

Only a few 50amp sites so check if you need it. Pretty much in the trees with total shade. Makes it nice and mostly private. No sewer at site but good spot in campground. A 1/4 mile hike to the water or drive to day use area. Great spot to stay while exploring Bremerton Navy exhibits. Close enough to drive to town for good food. We camped at Manchester State Park in a Motorhome.

From the pictures on the website, we thought we'd have a waterfront site, but we had to walk or drive down to the day use area to see the water. It was really nice down by the water, and I enjoyed seeing the ferries along with the historical sites. Our site was nice, but very dark, whether the day was sunny or not. We had some nice fires, but didn't expect such darkness. It is a nice place, and the facilities are great. The rangers are very helpful, but now only work part time because of budgets. Good, yes, but not what we expected from the website. We camped at Manchester State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

They are listed as having 50 amp but it is only in one or two sites. The 30 worked fine for the time of year we were here. It was cool and rainy so we didn't need AC. Park roads were paved and they only had one loop open. Roads in this loop were a bit tight in a couple of places but not a big problem. Sites are gravel and pretty level for the most part. The sites we had had water and electric and there's an on site dump station that has easy access in and out. The showers will cost you 1 token (50 cents) for 3 minutes. You will spend the first minute an a half waiting for the water to warm up. They didn't spend any time cleaning the shower for the 5 days we were here. The sites were quiet and you could hear the ferries going into Bremerton but it was not loud. I'd stay here again. We camped at Manchester State Park in a Motorhome.

Great place to relax and reconnect. Stayed here 3 nights and had a blast. Rangers were helpful and friendly, lots of hiking and things for the kids to do- walk the beach. Learned about the history of the area. Quiet at night, no issues with rowdy campers at all. Will make this a yearly tradition! There is no shopping near by, so be sure to bring everything you need. We camped at Manchester State Park in a Travel Trailer.

We stayed here previously when tent camping, and came back with our new travel trailer and the kids. Very nice treed park, with lots of privacy and room. About 1/2 of the sites have hookups, the other don't. But all are nice. The rangers are very friendly and want to be sure the park stays nice. I didn't run into any of the comments of the rangers that others have listed and have stayed here twice recently. There is a nice little camp store at the gate office. A nice little beach too. We camped at Manchester State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Overall Rating:

This is a very pretty park, however, I agree with the previous reviewers comments about the "babysitting" rangers. We felt they were a bit OVER zealous in their enforcement of the campground rules. There were signs posted all over the park threatening tickets and fines for everything you could think of -- including a huge fine for not adhering to the 1pm checkout time. We found it a bit unwelcoming. I understand the need for rules, but in 15 years of avid camping I've never been to a park that was so strict about every little thing. We were even told to turn our radio off COMPLETELY during quiet time, even though it was sitting a few feet from us and the volume was VERY VERY LOW. They implied that we were bothering the neighbors, which really surprised us because at that time we just happened to be having a somewhat deep conversation. We'd been talking in low tones and not laughing loud or anything. Luckily, we had already become friendly our neighbors when the first arrived, and when we inquired the next day and offered an apology -- they said quite sincerely that they didn't know what we were talking about and that they hadn't heard a thing. Go figure! I was actually a little relieved to read the previous review since now I know it wasn't just us who felt that way. I guess if you want the quietest campground ever, this place is for you. But if you have kids and dogs and you want to sit around the campfire and chat after 10pm, you might consider another location. We camped at Manchester State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Space #17 - Seemed to be one of the best in the park it was a pull-through and gave no problems to our 28 foot 5th wheel we pull with a longbed Chev truck. My sister's family had #18 and managed to get their 29 foot 5th wheel backed in and their slides pulled out but not much room to walk around the trailer to the back where the firepit and picnic table was. We also had a 10x10 tent on our site with the picnic table and our awning pulled out made for a cozy spot. The 10pm quiet rule is strictly enforced by a Ranger, who had to come and let us know to keep it down, we laugh loud. However, the park and bathroom shower areas are cleaner than most others. I did feel like we were being "babysat" when the Ranger and Host kept driving through the park about every 15 to 20 minutes. If you like a quiet, "by the book" park this place is for you. We camped at Manchester State Park in a Fifth Wheel.
