If you love long walks on the beach, lighthouses and views of the water, this park is perfect! The RV park is located on the Straight of Juan deFuco and has beaches on two sides. The sites are extra large, with ample parking, most of the pull thru sites are situated so you have privacy on your front door and patio area. It's easy to navigate and check in can be done after you park. This is one of Washington's most popular state parks so expect to make reservations months in advance to avoid disappointment. There are two campgrounds at Ft. Wordon, one is up on the hill (no view of the water but close to all the action in the Conference Center) the other is down on the beach. You must enter the Conference Center Grounds, via Cherry Street, to get to either one. Registration is in the Conference Center (follow the signs). We camped at Fort Worden State Park (Beach campground) in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

This park is perfectly located in the seaport town of Port Townsend. During the summer, there are lots of music festivals, a sterling Farmer's Market, and a lot of art's programs. Check out the Marine Science Center, at the Campground. The Bayview Restaurant, near the ferry dock, has the best prices for dinner. Hop the car ferry to Whidbey Island (lots of small towns, lavender farms and wineries to explore).

Arrived in the middle of a storm and some of the sites were flooded, including ours. It's tricky to put pads under your jacks when they keep floating away. Luckily, the storm ended, the site drained quickly, and we had a great stay. The sites are paved with grassy yards. We were very close to the beach and some of Fort Worden's bunkers. We were able to get a satellite signal as well as several OTA channels. We had 1-2 bars of 4G on ATT, but had a lot of trouble connecting. You're supposed to stop at the commons to register but the signs weren't very clear, especially in the rain, so we went back after we unhooked our rig. This is a very popular park so be sure to register well ahead of time. We would definitely come back. We camped at Fort Worden State Park (Beach campground) in a Fifth Wheel.

There's a lot to do within the park and Port Townsend is very close. We rode our bikes into town and explored the waterfront. Olympic National Park is further away, but worth the drive. We went to a local fish market and had a crab feast at our picnic table.

Loved this campground. Roomy, right on the water next to a slew of historical features (a decommissioned base with museums etc.) and things to do. Unfortunately I was only there for a day, had to jump on the ferry (3 mi. away) the next morning. Next time I will make a point to spend more time. Kids love it. We camped at Fort Worden State Park (Beach campground) in a Travel Trailer.

This is a beautiful campground, although I had a difficult time figuring how to register because of very poor signage. Sites are very nicely spread out--about 70 feet apart. In addition, the smaller number sites (1-17) have very good views of the sound. The sites on the northern end may look closer to the water, but there are large artillery bunkers blocking their view. Nice blackberry bushes, however, if you are here when they are ripe! Could easily pick enough for a pie, but alas, they were not ripe yet in July. Lots of things to do and see in this campground so you get a lot for your money. However, be aware that some of the sites listed as having 50 amp service have ONLY 50 amp service. Luckily, I have a 50 amp to 30 amp adapter, so I was able to hook up. I got 3 bars of Verizon 4LTE phone and data service and was able to get a good satellite signal. We camped at Fort Worden State Park (Beach campground) in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

This is a fantastic campground and fort grounds. We'll want to make this a regular place to visit. Our rate does not include a one time $8 reservation fee or one time $5 non-resident fee. You will want to make reservations. They are not set up for you to find an empty site and pay then. This campground is near the beach/water. You check in at building 210 (Commons) in the middle of the fort grounds. There is RV parking there. After you check in then you drive to the campground. Directional signs are limited. It will be best if you go to their web site and print maps before you arrive so you are familiar with the layout. From site #9 where we stayed you can see the water. Most don't have any water view. You'll only be a few minutes walk to it. You'll see the Port Townsend to Whidbey Island ferry, the Victoria Clipper, cruise ships, and cargo ships. Sites are level, spacious, and laid out well. Though many are visually open to each other. You can walk along the beach. You can walk out to the lighthouse but can't go inside. There are many trails throughout the battery remains of the fort. This fort has many existing buildings that have restaurants, museums, and even accommodations. We enjoyed site #9. Site #18 is private. The pull out sites on the outer perimeter from 34 through 46 will offer privacy. We camped at Fort Worden State Park (Beach campground) in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

There is plenty to see all within walking distance. There is a marine science center, coast artillery museum, and commanding officer's quarters museum. There are kayak rentals (weekends). Next to the campground is a convenience store with a basic restaurant for fish and chips, hamburgers, and hot dogs. In the fort grounds there is a restaurant (Reveille) that serves 3 meals and another restaurant (Taps at the Guardhouse) that opens after lunch and into the evening.

July 12,13 Wednesday, Thursday Fort Worden State Park, Port Townsend, Washington - 80 sites located in two campgrounds - Beach and Forest. $45, full hookups, Site Beach 16, Bathhouses with pay showers This is a huge complex in Port Townsend located on 434 acres with two miles of saltwater shoreline overlooking the Puget Sound. There is a full conference center here on 90 acres which includes more than 70 historic structures surrounding the old parade grounds and two campgrounds. One can stay in in the restored houses with their Victorian parlors and eat at a few restaurants scattered throughout the park. We stayed in the beach campground with checkin at the conference center or you can use express checkin. There is a store within walking distance that sells supplies as well as burgers. Our site #16 was a backin right next to the host and a short walk to the beach. Every site has a view of the Puget Sound and the 1889 Lighthouse. Pets are allowed on leash. All the sites at the beach campground are full hookups with bathhouses that are clean with two showers (fee) each. The Forest campground is in the woods away from the beach but the sites are nice and more private. One can walk along the beach to the old lighthouse or hike to the remains of the historic fort itself. We biked around the paved trails and the fort and really enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere. There are some museums on this property and the Marine Science Center. The Port Townsend School of Woodworking is located here which is known for their wood crafting skills and historic preservation. This was a great stay at a very popular campground. Reservations would be wise. It was full both days we were there! . Walking along the beach in early evening, we were able to see two snow covered mountains in the distance. Mt. Baker (Northern Cascades) and looking southeast snowcapped Mt. Ranier. Wow! We camped at Fort Worden State Park (Beach campground) in a Motorhome.

Park has so much wildlife, and we enjoy it every time we visit early season. Be sure you have a reservation thou, a lot of late arrivals Friday had no place to stay. Stop at the upper Commons Bldg. to check in. They have nice café inside, and also the Guardhouse, and Taps with nice southerly facing deck. Lots of good hiking, and history. No Wi-Fi, good cell, level site, spacious, but no privacy. Will return again. Price does not include $8.00 reservation fee. We camped at Fort Worden State Park (Beach campground) in a Motorhome.

Ft. Worden is no longer a State Park and managed by a private company. While the gentleman on the phone was incredibly courteous and helpful, I was definitely misled when making a reservation for my 36 foot fifth wheel. The only place a larger RV should park for a campsite is down on the lower beach area. This kind camp host stressed how much they have been attempting to make this fact known to the company that took over the state park. When we arrived in the upper campsite area with our rig, the tree branches were so low that they got stuck on our solar panels! It took us three hours to rectify the situation. We had made a reservation 5 months in advance. Fortunately, the park made it good for us and found us a site for the entire length of our ten-day duration down in the beachfront area. The history alone is enough reason to visit this incredible site. The grounds are beautifully maintained and the hiking trails are diverse and widespread throughout the 450 acre park. Just miles away from downtown Port Townsend, it is a beautiful and serene location full of opportunities for campers of all ages. Campsites down on the waterfront were level, spacious and provided excellent full hook ups with an incredible view of carrier ships, cruise ships, and an occasional Coast Guard protected submarine. Ft. Worden has on site, a terrific little restaurant set up in the old jail house. Named, "Taps", it is a not to miss. We camped here with two dogs and we would return again, but only to the beach area! We camped at Fort Worden State Park (Beach campground) in a Fifth Wheel.

After much confusion and a visit to the campground host we were told to go back to a central building to register and get a site number. The registration process is poor (no clear signage) for first time visitors. The site we received was great. It was an long, paved, outside, curved pull-through site, quite private, with E/W/S conveniently located. There are a few on-air tv channels. However, the sewer connection is most bizarre as it is a 4", cast iron elbow parallel with the higher ground around it. Most difficult to connect a tradition sewer hose without making a mess. We camped in a travel trailer and would stay here again. We camped at Fort Worden State Park (Beach campground) in a Travel Trailer.

There are many activities in this area including the Port Townsend Marine Science Centre which is at the south end of the campground, the remaining concrete bunkers, lighthouse, and the buildings of Fort Worden. A short drive takes you to Port Townsend where cafes, galleries, and bookstores abound. Be sure to visit the Nifty Fifty Restaurant for a walk in the past. We took an amazing eight hour sea cruise with Puget Sound Express which included a two hour lunch break in Friday Harbour.

The campground is open and located on Puget Sound but there is no view of the water. The sites are open, spacious and mostly level. There is beach access for walking and you are very close to Port Townsend. There is easy access to the ferry to Coupville (Whidbey Island) but you should get a reservation before hand on the Washington Ferry website. We have visited Fort Worden many times before, but never camped. Sites on the lower beach have no shade, are large, and spacious. Early season here, and wanted firewood. Not available till later the host said. Wildlife here is plenty. Even the otter that ran through the site. We looked, and dame it was a otter. Biked to Saturday market in town, and long walks on beach. So much to do here, and if bored. Port Townsend has plenty to do. Recycling here was the best I have ever seen at a park. Cell coverage was spotty. Will return again. We camped at Fort Worden State Park (Beach campground) in a Motorhome.

Port Townsend is a beautiful old town right on Puget Sound and Fort Worden is right on the Sound if you get a beach site, they also have a separate campground in the woods. Like most state parks the sites are wide with lots of space. The hiking trails around the old fort are great, make sure to take your camera. We had great cell service and our Verizon hot spot worked great-- nice place. We camped at Fort Worden State Park (Beach campground) in a Fifth Wheel.

The sites are level, utilities work, and roads wide enough to maneuver. The grass was all dead with lots of stickers. Showers were a quarter for 3 minutes.

I made reservations by phone because the web site was down. Wasn't told that it was $10.50 for talking to a person. It would ONLY have been $8.50 if the web site worked. I was asked if I was a Washington resident. Said no. Wasn't told that there is a $5 additional charge per day. I was told by a park employee that Washington wants to discourage out-of-staters from using their parks so residents can.

When I checked in, I did get a $2 refund for not being able to use the web site. I should have only been charged $8.50 to start. I should have been told of the extra charges. I won't be taking up space in Washington State parks again. We camped at Fort Worden State Park (Beach campground) in a Motorhome.

We stayed at the Fort Worden State Park for 4 days. Check in was easy because we made reservations. The person checking us in was helpful. The check in area is located at the forts barracks and main buildings. There is a snack bar there and a museum. Getting to our site was easy and pulling in was not a problem. The sites are spacious. There are some loop pull thrus and the rest are back ends. The hook ups are where they should be and while rather old, they are in working order. The sites are level so no need for levelers. There are fire pits and tables at your site. Our satellite worked fine as did our Verizon hot spot. The only con is the showers. They are coin operated and costly if you take a shower over 5 minutes. Some of the machines are broken and the showers are not kept clean. The best part of this park is its location. It has one of the best forts and bunker installations to explore. There are mazes of rooms and one of the best views from an observation decks. You can also see cruise ships and submarines traveling through the straits from Seattle and Bremerton. I would stay here again. We camped at Fort Worden State Park (Beach campground) in a Motorhome.
