This park is a gem. Its location along the Skagit River provides a great headquarters for exploring the North Cascades. There are several sites along the river with numbers 9 through 14 back in sites, and 6 through 8 pull throughs along the access road. Site 8 is probably the best river site. Other sites are located inland a bit and some are arranged so that a group could be together. Water and power but no sewer though a convenient dump station is in the park. Reservations are by phone, no internet booking. The staff is friendly and helpful and maintenance is at a high standard. We'll definitely be back. We camped at Howard Miller Steelhead County Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Adjacent to the RV Park is a network of trails in the wetlands along the river. A bit west is Rockport State Park with another network of trails in a magnificent old growth forest. The town of Concrete is worth exploring to learn about its history. The 5B's bakery is a must. The North Cascades offers many other options for explorationo.

Overall Rating:

We really love this county park because of its location, the staff, and because it is quiet (mostly). All the sites have now been updated to 50/30 amp, and the water pressure remains very good. No sewer hook up but there is an onsite dump station that is very easy to access. The adjacent trails are nicely groomed and arranged so you can take a short stroll or a much longer one and are good for all ages. There are a few interpretive signs to help explain the environment surrounding the park. There are two playground spaces with the one closer to the tent camping sites the better of the two. We alway see kids on their bikes enjoying the paved roads where they can create their own path through the 3 circle camp areas or through the pull through area. Sites in the older section are mostly paved and those in the newer circle are all 5/8 minus gravel. We camped at Howard Miller Steelhead County Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

9 miles west is a Red Apple market with a good selection of groceries. They also have a small hardware section for convenience. Want some baked goods? Follow the signs in Concrete to 5B's bakery. And for some yummy ice cream head 2 miles east and you will find a little road side shop - Cascadian Farm - where their generous portions will delight everyone. In summer you can also 'U-Pick' seasonal berries. Who doesn't like to do that!

We have camped many times at this great county park. Most of the sites are well spaced and the water and electric service is good. The roads are paved and the sites are paved or gravel. The nights are dark and quite and the staff is friendly and helpful. The only thing missing is sewer hookups, but there is a dump. The rate is $30 plus a $7 registration fee. We camped at Howard Miller Steelhead County Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Concrete has a new excellent bakery that serves breakfast and lunch and baked goods. What a find in the area. A visit to 5b's Bakery is worth the trip. There is no fuel or store in Rockport, so get what you need in Concrete.

Amazing location and facility! Only issue about this place is you must call for reservations as their website doesn't have online reservation capabilities. Staff is friendly and helpful. Our 43' 5th wheel will fit and maneuver into several sites. Gorgeous grounds. Very close river access. Nice hiking trail. Quiet. Will definitely stay again! We booked a spot at Steelhead park and were OK with it. When we arrived it was very clean. What we didn't like is that no longer than five minutes after setting up our site a guy came by on a golf cart and said we need to put the dog on a leash at all times and we have to be quiet after 10:00. Well that just blew it for our group. We just got out of the city to get away from rules and regulations and enjoy the outdoors, fat chance that was going to happen here. we asked for our money back for one night of the two nights we booked, we paid for one of the nights as we arrived so just to say after 5 to 15 minutes of being there they would not give our money back. Another thing we were unhappy about is that the sites are so close to each other that if you spit the wrong way you would probably hit someone in a site next to you. Well we left without our money and went down the road to another campground. The bottom line is if you want to sit in your RV, hear every word your neighbors are saying, keep your dog locked up and sit in the hot sun with very little tree coverage, Steelhead park will be great for you or church outings. We camped at Howard Miller Steelhead County Park in a Motorhome.

Beautiful campground on the river. Sites are level and paved with grass, fire pit and picnic tables. Lots of fisherman out to snag a salmon or two, and the fall leaves were gorgeous. Very peaceful and a good place to camp if you are planning a North Cascades trip. We camped at Howard Miller Steelhead County Park in a Truck Camper.

I really like this park. A beautiful park like setting right on the Skagit River. Asphalt roads and asphalt level sites, 30 and 50 amp service, tons of water pressure, and clean bathrooms and showers. The bathrooms and showers are older but absolutely spotless. Most of the sites are pull thru. The few back in sites are my favorites since they back right up to the river. The only downsides here are a lack of privacy between sites, no sewer hookups, and no wifi. If it had sewer and wifi, I would give it a 10. (The park Ranger says the wifi is being installed). Howard Miller beats the two State parks in the area hands down. We camped at Howard Miller Steelhead County Park in a Truck Camper.

We have 45" motorhome and we fit nicely without toad. The site was gravel and mostly level. The surroundings are beautiful with a river there and walking trails. There are no sewer connections at site but easy to access dump station if needed. This is great place to stay to see North Cascades national park. Would definitely stay here again when in the area. As another reviewer mentioned, if this place had Wi-Fi we'd give it a 10. We have a 45 foot motorhome and there were several sites that would accommodate us. The sites are either paved or gravel. Not really a lot of privacy but there is plenty of room between sites. Some of them have quite a slope but are okay for shorter units. Even on busy weekends, it is pretty quiet. The park has a beautiful pavilion that I assume can be rented. It is right on the Skagit River where you can fish or put in a boat. The ranger we met is a young, energetic and friendly man. Great location for visiting the North Cascades. We hiked, biked, and toured. We would definitely return. We camped at Howard Miller Steelhead County Park in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

The park is very well laid out, accommodating for the largest rigs. We stayed at one of the premium sites which backed into the Skagit River. There is no direct river access, as there is a border or trees and shrubs in between. These premium sites are only 30 amps. No sites have sewer but there is a dump station which even registered guests must pay $5 to use. There is ample grass space between sites for your party to spread out and enjoy. The roads are on the narrow side - we had to drive over grass to park our 5th wheel - but not a problem to be concerned about for getting around the park itself. The dump station is near the entrance but poorly laid out because there is no way to make a U-turn back to your site if there are any vehicles in the day-use parking area. The dump station was probably an afterthought. The lack of sewer and poor dump station layout was the reason for only a 9 out of 10 otherwise very nice park. Highly recommended. We camped at Howard Miller Steelhead County Park in a Fifth Wheel.

We opted for a riverside site and they were large back-in sites with a level paved driveway and excellent services. We didn't see the other sites. The place was very clean and well maintained. Reservations are mandatory for the riverside sites. The place is a real credit to the community. If they installed WiFi it would be a 10. Great park by the river. Wonderfully laid out sites, very well built and maintained. No cell phone service and no Wi-Fi. So, plan on being off the grid unless you drive 8 miles to Concrete. Sites on the north side have good satellite angles but the ones on the south are next to the river and are blocked by trees. Plenty of room for big rigs and slide-outs. We camped at Howard Miller Steelhead County Park in a Motorhome.
