We spent five weeks at Vista Park; our rate reflects the monthly stay. We loved it and we will definitely stay there again. We especially enjoyed the spectacular mountain views across the river into Oregon and watching ocean-going vessels of all sorts sail by on the Columbia River.

In our experience, the pros are: (1) You can choose private, shaded full-hookup RV sites or rental yurts; Columbia River beachfront, water-and-electric-only sites; tent sites; or sunny, full-hookup sites in front of the mountain. All sites are are back-in. (2) Vista Park can accommodate big rigs. (3) There are two areas with playground equipment, and large open play areas. (4) There is river access and a beach area. However, it is not a guarded, swimming beach and the water is very cold. (5) Most sites have picnic tables and fire rings. (6) The Park Manager, Guest Host and staff are friendly, welcoming and helpful. They couldn't be nicer! (6) Free WiFi. Most of the time it worked pretty well. (7) During summer, there is a small coffee bar, Ship Channel Espresso, in the park. They serve delicious coffee, espresso drinks, ice cream and an assortment of other goodies. Even the locals stop by for coffee!

The cons--and these wouldn't be negatives for everyone--are: (1) No cable TV. We chose a narrower and less private, but sunny and open site so that we could use our satellite. Some of the shadier sites can get satellite, depending on the type of dish setup. (2) No pool. However, there is an indoor pool in Cathlamet where you can swim for a fee. (3) Skamokawa is somewhat remote. There is a very small general store within walking distance and two small markets about six miles away in Cathlamet. However, the nearest large supermarket is 30 miles away in Longview. There are a few restaurants in Skamokawa and Cathlamet. We camped at Skamokawa Vista Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Try the Duck Inn for delicious breakfasr, lunch and dinner. Take the small ferry from Puget Island to Oregon--on a clear day, you get a great view of Mount St. Helens from the ferry. Check out the Friday afternoon Farmers Market on Puget Island.

This is a diamond in the rough on the Columbia River. Sites are very private and mine [a no-hookup site] was right on the river with beach access. It was fun seeing all the huge ships go by and so very close! Some of the roads are very bumpy and the WiFi didn't work in my site but the Verizon signal was good enough to use my mobile WiFi and for voice with an antenna. Would definitely come here again. We camped at Skamokawa Vista Park in a Motorhome.

Months ago we reserved a full hookup site with TV satellite access, and upon arrival we were placed in a slot with only electric--no water or sewer, or TV. (Obviously a miscommunication between us somewhere along the line.) Nonetheless we enjoyed the CG. It is situated on the Columbia River and the shore line is very close to the shipping channel. This is a wonderful site for kayakers, and the Columbia River Kayaking shop is nearby--tours, rentals, etc. The nearby comfort station only has one shower (!) (there are two comfort stations,I believe) and only one "john" per gender. Adequate, but not plush. We will return soon (different camp slot). Great kayaking! We camped at Skamokawa Vista Park in a Travel Trailer.

We have camped here 3 times now. This time we made our reservations too late to have a spot in the upper, treed area of the campground, and were in a site in the flat area near the park office. These sites are far too close together, and there is little privacy. It's too bad that the park management does not control the many unleashed dogs that run around the campground. This is a very nice place with a lovely setting, and this is the one thing that makes it unpleasant. Skamokawa Vista Park is a wonderful place to relax and watch the big ships on the Columbia River. We will go back, but we'll make our plans a little earlier to get one of the sites that we like. We camped at Skamokawa Vista Park in a Motorhome.

Stayed at an electric only site by the river. Beautiful spot. Very large and open. Ships pass by at all hours, and come close to the shore. Nice swimming beach. Tide comes high and then goes very low. We had a boat that we kept on the beach. Boat launch has seen better days and is only usable during high tide. Kids like playing on the playground, office has horse shoes available for playing. WiFi is pathetic, as it only works by the office. We camped at Skamokawa Vista Park in a Motorhome.

Since last reviewed they have upgraded the upper section of this park with full hookups including cable TV. The upper sites have 20/30/50 amp. I wouldn't call this area big rig friendly. There are some tight turns and some sites you would only be able to pull straight into. We stayed in one of the lower sites that had electric only #13 (we drove straight in) but were able to reach the water faucet nearby to fill our tank. There are other sites down below that have water, power and cable. There's a dump station in the lower area too . We were able to get our dome satellite in but we had poor cell and air card service until we used our antenna with our signal booster. This is our 3rd time here and it's not our favorite park but it's the closest park to Rosburg where we were visiting friends. We think this park is now overpriced. We camped at Skamokawa Vista Park in a Motorhome.

Skamokawa Vista Park lies along the Columbia River. The campground has 34 sites with hookups, nine for tents or RVs and four tent-only sites. There’s also a playground, playing field and basketball and tennis courts. There are 2 sections here. An upper loop section to the right, and the section along the river. We found it to be pretty "rustic" and well used. When the wind comes up and cars drive along the dirt road expect lots of dust!! Our car looked like a cinnamon cookie after 2 days. The prices vary as to what type of "accommodations" you choose. $23.00 full hookup, $21.00 electric only, standard site $19.00, tent site $16.00 and satellite tv $2.00 if it's at the full hookup site. This was a good place to spend the night but wouldn't consider it a destination campground. It does offer fishing and there is a beach area along the river, it was just too cold and windy. There are loads of blackberries in the park so we made a pie and stayed warm inside. There are no showers or laundry facilities here and the only time the grass is green is in the rainy season. There is a dump station in the upper loop. Reservations can be made by calling 360-795-8605 We camped at Skamokawa Vista Park in a Motorhome.
