This is the kind of campground we love! It's small, wooded, quiet, and picturesque. If you need things for the kids, there's a small playground in the campground. A city park with a large pool and big playground are next door to the mine exhibit. There are only 17 sites here and they are all back-ins. They are pretty narrow, but we have a 33' motorhome and had no trouble. There are several rigs larger than ours here. The showers are dated, but are clean and have lots of hot water. They give you a code for the bathrooms. Be careful on the city road into the mine exhibit, since it is narrow and there are power poles right on the edge! You should check in at the Mine Museum office and unhook your toad there. The road up to the campground has one sharp, steep curve but it's manageable. Good Verizon signal. We enjoyed our stay! We camped at Beckley Exhibition Coal Mine Campground in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

We enjoyed the tour of the mine. The mine town buildings are beautifully restored, and the docents are well-informed. You get $1 off for being in the campground. Drive north to the New River Bridge and also to Thurmond, an abandoned railroad town. The road to Thurmond is winding and narrow, so be careful!

We maneuvered in driving a 42 foot Class A. Disconnect your tow vehicle before coming up the hill. The street you turn on (Ewart) says "no trucks" which kind of spooked us -- it was passable but it's tight and there are longing hanging tree branches to contend with. The first site we were assigned was impossible to back into it as a large oak prevented the correct angle to needed to back in. The second one was better but it took going back and forth several times to get the right angle to auto-level. Power advertised as 30, but we got 20. We needed an extra long sewer hose as the connection is all the way of the back corner of the site. Once it, it was delightful. Shady, exercises trails, and literally next door to the coal museum. Would recommend it, but exercise patience and caution if you're in a big rig. We camped at Beckley Exhibition Coal Mine Campground in a Motorhome.

A city owned campground built in the mid-60s but well kept up. At some sites it would be hard to get level. Getting to the campground is an adventure in itself. All roads in are narrow and steep. My gps picked the worst of three ways in. We took a better way out. The drive in to the campground itself is very steep and only one way at a time. Make sure there is not someone coming out when you want to go in. Once here it is a pleasant setting. Satillite tv will not work from most sites due to trees. Only PBS from ota antenna. It is tight getting into your site. For just an overnight we would probably try elsewhere but if you want to go to the coal mine and other nearby attractions this would be a good place. We camped at Beckley Exhibition Coal Mine Campground in a Motorhome.

We stayed her for 2 nights over Labor Day weekend. We were in WV from NC for some off-road riding at Burning Rock Adventure Park. The Burning Rock Campground was full so I did a search of nearby campgrounds and this place came up. It was only an easy 20 minutes away. We enjoyed the quiet surroundings and the large trees providing great share. Attendant that checked us in was very pleasant and helpful. The roads to the campground in was narrow but we had no problems navigating with our 55 long feet trailer pickup combination. The turn in was sharp but plenty of room to maneuver. The hill was a hill but it was short and not as bad as expected. Friday night of Labor Day the park was about half full. We would stay here again. The mine are looked interesting but we were not around during operating hours. We camped at Beckley Exhibition Coal Mine Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Enjoyed the coolness. In the shade. However, the door of our rig opened onto a hill. Not room to walk easily around the camper. We camped at Beckley Exhibition Coal Mine Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

This cash only, 17-site campground is part of a community run park. There is an exhibition coal mine and miners village as part of the same park a short walk from the campground. The coal mine runs underneath the park and campground. We arrived just at night fall and got the last campsite. They only have staff on-site between 6-9:30 at night. Arrive earlier and you need to check in at the exhibition coal mine store. The unused campsites are chained off and ours was unlocked for us as we checked in. Our site was not level at all. You drive through town to get to the campground. The final roads are narrow, and a previous reviewer was correct, there is a sharp right turn to get to the campground road. Be careful not to take out the poorly placed telephone pole on the corner. We camped at Beckley Exhibition Coal Mine Campground in a Motorhome.

Staff very nice. Park very nice. Clean. Level asphalt sites. But, entering off street is tricky. It is a single lane drive. You're coming off the main road so you can only get a slow start then you have to make an immediate 90 and then proceed up a very tall hill. Now that we are here we will enjoy our stay. But won't be able to come back. We camped at Beckley Exhibition Coal Mine Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Very winding and difficult road to get to park. The road up to the park is only wide enough for one rig at a time. Don't know what they do if one is leaving as one is coming in. Sites very close together. Don't think we will be back here again! We camped at Beckley Exhibition Coal Mine Campground in a Motorhome.

What a great find! Small campground, check-in is a bit hard to find (is in the mining exhibit office) but worth the effort! They have a fantastic exercise trail that is wonderful to walk if you are neither young nor fit ; ) There is a great water park adjacent and a nice little playground. The sites are back in, but easy, level and up in the trees. Great value, quiet and lovely. What more could you ask for? We camped at Beckley Exhibition Coal Mine Campground in a Travel Trailer.

This is a very small campground in Beckley, WV and a good place for overnight or several day stay. The attendants on duty at 5:30 pm were very nice and helpful. The only drawback in my opinion is the very, very steep hill to come up and back down when you leave. Make sure you call ahead to find out how to enter the campground as it is near impossible for a large rig to make a right turn into the cg road, which is not very well marked. You have to go to the daytime office which is at the Beckley Mine to pay in the daytime and to turn around so you can enter from the left. The Beckley Exhibition Mine is a must see and do. Very well displayed and a great underground tour of the now closed coal mine. Lots of information about what coal miners dealt with and how they lived. Very informative. There are very few campgrounds in this area and we were lucky to find this little gem in most respects. We would stay here again. We camped at Beckley Exhibition Coal Mine Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

This city owned park is adjacent to the city pool and playground and is associated with the coal mine tours and museum. It is an interesting area. The comments about entry roads and sharp turns have merit, so if those kinds of things bother you, I'd suggest you stay elsewhere. We managed with truck and 30 TT but had to go into 4 wheel drive to get up the final hill and turn. Sites are very narrow as well but plenty long. We found it to be very quiet. May stay here again. This campground is a decent choice if you want to stay in Beckley. We should have followed the sign to the campground directly onto Ewart Street and ignored the sign saying No Trucks. There are no impediments to big rig access on this road; although, the entry and campground road is tight. We enjoyed the coal mine museum and tour. It was OK for an overnight, but next time I would probably choose a campground in a state park or national forest. We camped at Beckley Exhibition Coal Mine Campground in a Motorhome.

Very small bath and showers. We had to pay key deposit and then use key to get in bathroom. You return key for refund when you leave. Each campsite had a wire "gate" with padlock. The sites seem to slant downhill. It was OK and convenient to the tourist attractions and was reasonable priced. It was nothing fancy We camped at Beckley Exhibition Coal Mine Campground in a Motorhome.

The other descriptions made us tentative on this campground. We came in from I-64 going west and the gps took us through town to reach the campground. We unhooked when we reached the coal mine exhibition and checked it out before committing.  We also wanted to see if the sites were long enough.  No problem.  The approach into the campground is a little steep and the left turn is sharp but we had no problem with a 45’ motorhome.    The campground itself is very clean.  The sites are asphalt pads.  The hookups for some sites are in the rear of the site so unless you want to use multiple cords, look at that before going in.  There is a locked wire on each site so if you need to change sites, you have to go back down to the office and get another key.  No Wi-Fi.  Good phone reception.  Quiet.   The sites are a little snug, but it wasn't crowded so it wasn't an issue.  The coal mine exhibition is well worth seeing.  Very interesting and well done.  It's about a half hour drive to the New River Gorge Bridge.  Would stay here again. There are a lot of fun outdoor activities in the area. We camped at Beckley Exhibition Coal Mine Campground in a Motorhome.
