Overall Rating:

This is a great COE CG located in the mountains of WV. We arrived in the last week of October just in time for their annual Halloween bash. That include making up a 40 gallon batch of apple butter, Halloween site and costume decoration contest, and trick or treating for the kids in the park and those from Burnsville area. The host were very friendly and encouraged us to decorate with a free day of camping if we did. Basics: the roads are paved with gravel sites with a fire ring and picnic tables. Lots of space between sites. The shower and bathrooms were spotless with good hot water and pressure. Most sites had full hooks and those that didn't still had 50 amp power. They had a dump station, boat ramp, and fishing on the lake or shore. The sites are reasonably level but ours was a bit tight for parking the toad. All sites are back ins. There's parking available for toad's at the top end of the CG and the lower end if you don't have room at your site. We have recently got a water softening system but the water here is excellent with no need to soften.(I guess that's why the make moonshine in the area.) Verizon and Mifi are fair with 1-2 bars of 4G most of the time then it drops to 3G with 1-2 bars. This is a beautiful area and will definitely stay here again if we're in the area. Note the price reflects the Federal Geezer Pass. We camped at Riffle Run COE in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Hiking, fishing, be sure to head down to Sutton and Flatwoods to check out Braxxie the local alien who showed up in 1952 and scared the carp out of a bunch of kids. They also have an annual film festival in Sutton.

Overall Rating:

This is a very peaceful and clean campground. We have camped here every year since 2005 and they have made wonderful improvements over the years from only having water and electric to full hookups and they have recently added beautiful over flow sites. This campground has 2 wonderful playgrounds, one for younger children one for older children. We camped at Riffle Run COE in a Fifth Wheel.

Overall Rating:

Campground is on lake with a dam but no sites are lake view. Interior road is paved but sites are gravel and grass. Has picnic table, fire ring and lantern pole at each campsite. Has bath houses but did not visit them.
No reservations accepted. Honor system for payment. Senior pass was $15 per night for 50 amp. full hookups! For us, in a 40 foot motorhome coming in site unseen, we were very apprehensive. But it turned out very well.
Verizon wifi and cell access non existent but depending upon which side of the road and which site you are on, Direct TV was fine for us in Site 21.
Only 3.5 miles from I-79 at exit 79! Great place to overnight but would not consider it for a destination. Reason for high rating was easy access from interstate, price and hookups for the price. No shopping close by but saw the 79er restaurant at exit 79 off of I-79!!! We camped at Riffle Run COE in a Motorhome.

Date of Stay: April, 2008 - $10.00
Overall Rating:

I paid $10 for a site with electric and water, under my Golden Age Passport. Regular rate is $20. Regular rates for full hookup $26, tent/primitive $12. Cash or check, no reservations. Open Apr 25-Nov 30. Shower/restroom facilities, laundry, playground, dump, fresh water fill-up, tables, fire-ring/grills. Sites are along Riffle Run, a pretty little stream that runs most of the year. Campground host was friendly and accommodating. We camped at Riffle Run COE in a Motorhome.
