Beautiful area, park focus is on forest management with camping a second thought, but all camp sites were good to excellent for what was offered. Water hook-up would have been nice, but bath house is available with hot water (and outside sink for dishes). There is a central potable water spot to fill up and all public water is tested daily by the state. There is not a dump site. We camped at Greenbrier State Forest Campground in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

Smaller camp site with only about 20 spots, mostly empty for my visit. Most sites electric (30amp) only. Forested but no undergrowth so still feels "open". Grey water disposal and trash receptacle each site. Dish washing station at bathrooms. All sites have at least 1 picnic table (mine had 2) and fire pit with built in grill. Other activities available (hiking, frisbee golf, pool) as part of State Forest facilities. Must go through single lane tunnel 14' 2" high to enter park. Small camp office with souvenirs and firewood. Very friendly and helpful staff. Brochures and guidebooks left in bathrooms were a nice touch. Sites pretty level with hard packed gravel. No flooding issues even with some heavy rains. Mix of pull through and back in sites. Only a couple miles off I-64 so easy to access but quiet. Campsite a little pricey at $29/night with no water or sewer, but other amenities made up for it. We camped at Greenbrier State Forest Campground in a Tent Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Gas and a couple food facilities at exit off Interstate. Must visit Greenbrier Hotel and grounds in nearby White Sulphur Springs. Don't have to be a guest to visit and grounds and building are beautiful. Also enjoyed Greenbrier River Trail nearby. Converted rail trail that goes for almost 75 miles along the river. Lewisburg has many restaurants, WalMart, etc and some historical sites. Couple of cavern tours not too far away (Organ Cave and Lost World Caverns).

We selected this park because it is a state park and we have a certain expectation regarding them. What a wonderful find! There are only 16 sites and all of them are wooded. We stayed in #15 which is a pull through. It is pretty level which is not the case for some of them but most look good. I was concerned since the newest review I saw was several years old but every thing I read in the previous reviews holds true. The camp host was very friendly and helpful. The location is a few miles off of I-64. The roads are a little curvy and narrow and there is a tunnel you have to go through. I don't think many motor homes could make it. If you have questions, call them. We camped at Greenbrier State Forest Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Stayed here for 2 delightful nights. Very cool, woodsy and quiet. The park attendant was extremely friendly and helpful. Showers and restrooms were very clean. There are 9 nearby hiking trails including one exercise trail. Would stay again. We camped at Greenbrier State Forest Campground in a Motorhome.

Not far from the famous resort of Greenbriar and nestled in verdant forest is this gem of a park. Quiet and peaceful are but a few of the qualities. We were able to travel to other nearby destinations as 64 is just a few miles away. Convenient to White Sulphur Springs, the New River Gorge and Beckley, this a great place to hunker down for a few days or longer. We camped at Greenbrier State Forest Campground in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

Greenbrier State Forest is a lovely little jewel tucked in the eastern mountains of WV. This is old-school deep woods camping at its best. The campground has only 16 sites, all deeply shaded, generous in size, and spaced well apart. The Ranger’s Office at the main entrance has a pool. Campground is 2 miles from the entrance down a narrow, winding road. Big rig access is not possible as the CG cannot accommodate more than about a 30’ rig. (A one-lane tunnel with low clearance must also be crossed to get to Greenbrier.) Each site has a picnic table, stone fire pit, and trashcan. Potable water is available at the CG host office, which also has a small souvenir shop. Bath house is on property. The campground is lovely, quiet, and dark at night. Numerous footpaths and trails are threaded throughout the forest: pick any direction and you can have a great walk. An adjacent field offers over-flow tent camping. We met folks here who brought their horses. A new Frisbee Golf course is at the end of the field. Between the Ranger office and CG is a rental cabin area, and a large picnic area with shelters and BBQ grills. If you have a car, you can continue past the CG on a gravel road to the top of Kate’s Mountain which has a scenic overlook. Reservations for camping can be made in advance. We adored Greenbrier, and spent two deliciously cool nights here in the height of summer. We camped at Greenbrier State Forest Campground in a Motorhome.

Stayed here weekend after Thanksgiving. We were the only ones in the campground. Very friendly ranger, even gave us firewood. No sewer: but there is a private campground right outside the entrance of the state forest that allows use of the dump station for $10. No water hookups at the site: but central water at camp store (which was closed for the season) so we just filled our fresh water tank. Site 15 was the most level pull through we could find. Expect wildlife to investigate your rig overnight. We camped at Greenbrier State Forest Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Beautiful state forest. The sites are close to- gether. We made reservations for this campground on our way to a national park. A word of caution, the route into the forest campground has a single lane tunnel which is shared with a creek and utility lines. The tunnel has several vertical clearance restriction signs ranging from 9'-2" to 15'- 2". It very important that your vehicle favor the curbline along the center of the tunnel. The camp site was not level. We camped at Greenbrier State Forest Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Overall Rating:

I gave this campground a 5 rating because although it was quiet, peaceful and relaxing, it lacked a lot. There really wasn't anything for my 2 young daughters to do. The playground was too far to walk or ride your bike. There also is no dump station at this campground. The showers were somewhat nasty. My wife refused to take a shower. The bathroooms were clean. It is pretty small and may be suitable for an overnight stay since it is only about 5 minutes from I-64 at White Sulpher Springs. We camped at Greenbrier State Forest Campground in a Travel Trailer.
