What an amazing campground! All sites are very private and quiet. Employees come around twice a day to empty garbage cans. Full hookups. I have AT&T and have two bars and 4g almost all the time. The resort pool is free to use, but it's a hike. (I'd drive). Playground across the way, mini golf, rock climbing wall. Short drive to Blackwater Falls. If getting away and relaxing is what you are looking for, this is the place! We camped at Canaan Valley Resort State Park in a Travel Trailer.

The campsites are poorly maintained with many having crumbling pavement. Few are level and require ingenuity to make them work as a level camping unit. This is a resort - period. The specialties are golf and skiing. I was disappointed as it was presented by the staff to be loaded with things to do and comparable to it's sister, Pipestem. It isn't. We camped at Canaan Valley Resort State Park in a Travel Trailer.

We stayed here for two weeks and it's been the best two weeks in a long time! All of the sites are spacious and afford lots of privacy. They are all pull through but are arranged off the circular interior roads. When exiting our rig, we could only see the forest, woods, trees and deer. We put up a hammock in the trees. Deer came by at dusk every day. It was the most peaceful two weeks ever! And the best part... full hookups! Even when the campground was full (which was only on weekends) it still feels like you are alone. We had a great fire pit and picnic table. We did use the laundry which was clean and functioned well. The park rangers were always nearby and kept things clean and well maintained. The huge downside is that there is no internet. We had to go to the resort lodge to access internet. The roads in and out of the park were paved and more than adequate. Highly recommend this peaceful setting! We camped at Canaan Valley Resort State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

The towns of Davis and Thomas both have nice coffee shops. Thomas has a great place to eat and listen to folk music; called the Purple Fiddle. The chair lift in Canaan Valley has a great view at the top or hike further to Bald Knob; beautiful view of the valley. There are a lot of bike trails with a bike shop in Davis to rent a bike. Canaan Valley State Park resort has an indoor and outdoor pool and exercise room that campers can access for a fee.

If you need your cell phones, hotspot, connectivity and satellite this is not the place for you. It is 10 miles from the nearest town of Davis which is I don't know how many miles from civilization. That being said, if you like quiet, wildlife, isolation and beauty you'll love it here. Please note, the pull throughs are not made for anything bigger than 30 feet. We have a 40' 5th wheel and squeezed it in by way of backing it in to the pull through (they are half circles). The beauty of the plateau is awesome. There are deer everywhere. It was quiet and relaxing. The office people were very nice and helpful in trying to find us a spot that we would fit. (they were going to be full while we were there so because we didn't fit in our assigned site they had to juggle to find us another one.) Our site was relatively level (the parking portion) with the picnic table and fire ring further back in the woods down a hill. Utilities were fine. We camped at Canaan Valley Resort State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Open year round and we stayed in the off season so water was off at site, but faucet in laundry room was threaded for the hose so we filled up there. We don't use bathrooms/showers normally but I checked them out & these were disgusting. No verizon in park but outside it worked fine. The resort will let you sit in their pub/lounge and use their wifi. Check in was at the resort since the cg office was closed for the season.

We LOVED the sites which were large pull throughs off of two loops. Beautiful wooded setting with plenty of space & lovely wooded views. Tons of deer every night & lots of hiking right from the site - be sure to ask for a map when you check in. We stayed for a week and enjoyed the secluded feeling! Tips for other Campers:

Definitely visit the Purple Fiddle in Thomas and Hellbender Burrito in Davis!

The Purple Fiddle has live music on the weekends and also free wifi - a geeat place for lunch/dinner or even just a beer/coffee.

We went to ski resort across from CG and hiked to summit for great views.

We also visited Blackwater Falls & Seneca Rocks.

Grades are steep coming and going (10%) so be sure you are not underpowered, we did fine with the diesel!

This was a very nice campground. The pull thru sites are on the outside of the loops many of them require that you walk downhill to the campsite. They can be tight if you have multiple slide outs. They all faced the woods, very private. The back in's were in the middle and were very nice. Lot's of space between sites. Very clean. For $7. per day per campsite you can use the indoor pool, spa, etc. We camped in a 34' fifth wheel. We camped at Canaan Valley Resort State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Lot's of beautiful waterfalls and mountains. Make sure to read up on driving through the mountains. We over heated our brakes on a short downhill stretch without the camper in tow-valuable lesson learned!

This is a heavily wooded campground in a large state park. Sites are a bit narrow, but manageable. Some sites appear to be very difficult to get level on. No on air TV signal, and probably no satellite signal due to trees. We couldn't get a cell signal at our site. This is a very quiet campground with a decent and clean bath house. There is a small grocery store a few miles away and a decent supermarket 10 miles away in Davis. Very pretty countryside and mountains. The pool is at the lodge which is too far to walk, and is currently undergoing major renovation. We did get a weak Wi-Fi signal at the lodge. This is a lovely campground as long as you do not want any electronic connection (no TV, internet, poor cell phone reception) to the outside world. The campsites are lovely; bathrooms/showers kept clean. I was there before 'season' so the rate was great. We camped at Canaan Valley Resort State Park in a Motorhome.

Beautiful, well kept park. Plenty of space between sites and most all were heavily shaded. Our only complaint was the electric utilities are placed too close to the site making it difficult to get the slide outs out without putting your awning in the trees. Many pull-through sites are sloped front to rear. Higher elevations means cooler temps than surrounding areas so take warm clothes in fall. Excellent summertime temps though. No TV stations or internet is fine with us. We were here for the great outdoors. Very close to the best hiking WV has to offer and plenty of nearby streams for fishing. Great place to ride your bike as well. We camped at Canaan Valley Resort State Park in a Motorhome.

Very nice and can't beat the price. The staff kind of assumed everyone had been here before and we had to ask for things that would normally be offered (like directions to our site). But the grounds were clean and in a spectacular setting. Not to much more to ask for. Considering everyone here must burn wood in the winter it would be nice if the wood they sold was actually dry and burnable. I left a big pile behind that won't be useable until next year. Our favorite campground so far. Campsite is huge and sits with perfect view of playground. Very quiet at night even fully packed. Super clean bathhouse. Short drive up to lodge for heated pool. Lots of hiking choices and fishing. Beautiful!! Small office on site for ice and wood. We camped at Canaan Valley Resort State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

The sites and area are beautiful. The campground was quiet and relaxing. Many of the campers we met come every year. Deer were plentiful. The campground attendant was most helpful and friendly. The pool at the resort looked nice, but we did not have time to use it. Dolly Sods Wilderness Area is nearby and is worth the drive, especially when in full color in the fall. We hope to camp here again. Only negative would be there is no cell phone reception. We camped at Canaan Valley Resort State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Canaan Valley is a fantastic place to visit. We got to see beautiful fall colors! The campground is tight and a challenge for larger rigs. We pull a 37' fiver, but got in just fine. The pull-through sites are too tight to pull-through: we had to back into our site (#3). However, after surveying the sites, there are several back-in sites that are large enough and two pull-through sites that are much larger. This park is worth a visit. We camped at Canaan Valley Resort State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

This was our 3rd visit to this park! One of our favorites! It's worth the money, especially if you love the outdoors and enjoy hiking and biking! Our kids love the wildlife (deer and an occasional raccoon.) that come right into your campsite. It's always cool here in the mountains so be prepared for that. The pool is heated so that is a plus! Highly recommend Canaan Valley State Park! We camped at Canaan Valley Resort State Park in a Travel Trailer.

What a beautiful state park. I think that West Va. has a lot to offer and Canaan Valley Resort State Park is a great central location for recreation. I made our reservation for this camp ground only 1 month before we arrived. I didn't think I would get a reserved spot, but I was able to. All of the sites are very shaded and you have a lot of privacy. We had deer in our campsite every day. My children loved this. This will be a location we will visit again. We camped at Canaan Valley Resort State Park in a Tent Trailer.
