This was a one night stay (half way home) stop and relax. The campground is small but has a beautiful lake view for some of the camp spots. The spots that are closer to the highway are noisy with trucks, motorcycles etc. Our spot was muddy, high grass, yes and no picnic table, we are thinking another site took the table since we came in late since other sites had them. The owner stated someone was in our spot for a month and apologized for not mowing it. Owner very nice and If I were to stay again I would want a lake view as its very beautiful. I would recommend maybe adding gravel to the sites to assist with mud after rainfalls. We camped at New River Campground in a Motorhome.

A few campsites that parallel the river are outstanding. The rest are extremely close together and are gravel, grass and mud. This is a very scenic area close to many kayak/ canoe, 4-wheeling/dirt biking and mountain biking/ hiking venues. The campground is right on US 60 and across the river from a busy rail line. It is noisy 24/7 and we only stay here to visit friends and relatives in the area. We camped at New River Campground in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Launch a boat on the New River and go fishing (get a license as it is strictly enforced by plain-clothed officers in this area) and sight seeing.

Not a fancy park, but the views on the river and the canyon are incredible. Would have rated this higher but it is noisy because of the big trucks on the road. There seems to be more long-term tenants than the year before but they mainly occupy sites right next to the road, where a traveler would not want to be. The turn into the park is very tight and for a larger rig, I would recommmend disconnecting in one of the pullouts by Gauley Bridge. This is a very charming area. When we were there, maybe because of the drought, the New River had a lot of algae growning on the park side but there was no odor. Trains are on the other side of the river but no whistles are blown. One problem I can see developing, are the 20 are so "fishing cabins" across the river. I am told the owners are squatting on railroad land but pay a lease to the railroad and are allowed to stay. The only way to reach them is by boat. While we were there, one occupant had a big party, lit up his place with a generator, and was blasting loud music. I am told nobody can stop them since they are squatters and there is no road to the cabins. It was only a problem for that night, but I can see it getting worse in time. lots to do in the area, however. Only several spaces allow parking parallel along the river. We camped at New River Campground in a Motorhome.

Site was right on river. CG had a lot of seasonal campers who were seasonal workers in the area. The road was right along the CG. No large open grassy areas. Lots of shade. Small sign that came up quick to enter. Could have been a problem if you missed it. We camped at New River Campground in a Motorhome.

I would shop before you get here as the only store nearby was a CVS pharmacy, Subway further down road. Older buildings, vacant buildings near pharmacy.

We arrived very late but had called ahead. They kept the park office open and armed with flashlights lead us to our campsite. The site was level and gravel. We camped right on the river. Very scenic views. Camped two nights and will camp here again. We camped at New River Campground in a Motorhome.

This place is awesome, the spot is right in front of the water. I was camping in a tent alone (I'm a female) and never felt threatened or unsafe. This campground is quiet although the train passes daily, I didn't mind at all. Family environment, friendly campers and staff. Totally recommend. We camped at New River Campground in a Tent.

Camp right on the New River or close by at this campground. Scenery is just spectacular. Several sites are parallel to the water, the others head in. Not a fancy park but location, location, location is the key. They have a prime spot in this charming valley. Approach from the West on Route 60. Fairly level from the West Virginia toll road, but right past this park, route 60 is extremely curvy and mountainous, with lots of logging and coal trucks. I can't imagine driving in from the east, but some do. I would never take a larger rig in that way. Nearby towns are picturesque and Glenn's Ferry reminded us of towns in Vermont. Railroad tracks across the water but no whistle blowing in the area so it's not disruptive. Plenty of side roads to explore. We would visit again. One note, for larger rigs, the turnoff, coming West on 60, is right after the CVS Pharmacy and Family Dollar parking lot. It you know exactly where it is, it's possible to do a real wide turn to get in. However, we shot past the entrance, disconnected our tow car in front of the office, and backed up in order to pull through. We have a 42 ft long Class A. Owners are very helpful to their guests. We camped at New River Campground in a Motorhome.

We were thrilled with our experience at this campground. The staff were super friendly and helpful. Our site was facing the river and the views were spectacular. During our stay, they were working on the shower house and rebuilding picnic tables that were damaged during the flood a few weeks ago. They had already laid several tons of gravel throughout the campground, and if we didn't know it, we would never have a clue the the entire campground was under 4 ft of water less than a month ago. These are hard working people who are running a beautiful campground. We stayed 6 nights and can not wait to go back! Next time we will be sure to take Kayaks to enjoy the calm waters! Bought some $5 Ozark Trail inner tubes at Walmart in Fayetteville, tied ropes to them connecting them to our chairs and really enjoyed floating near the beach area. We spoke to some campers who frequent the campground who told us it's not only the most beautiful campground in the area, but also the best value. We agree! Can't miss Cathedral Falls just south of Gauley Bridge on 60. Beautiful! We spent some time exploring Hawks Nest State Park, Kanahwa Falls, and spent time in Fayetteville (Walmart, some antiquing, dinner at Pies & Pints.) We went white water rafting on Thursday with River Expeditions. Great value through the week, adults are buy one get one and kids are half price. Included breakfast, lunch, and drinks afterward (even a PBR or mixed well drink if you choose).

Beautiful scenery, right on the New River by where the Gauley and New Rivers meet. Owner is very accommodating and assisted with backing in. Ground was still a little muddy from the recent flood and lots of rain, but gravel and mulch had been spread and helped a lot. Good hookups, great view- you're literally right on the River. Camp store has your basics and also sells a variety of bait. Follow the directions on the website- was coming from 64W and yes there are a few hairpin turns and 7% grades but made it fine in a 41' 5th wheel pulling with a diesel dually. Just take it slow. Bathrooms are individual rooms with 3-4 locking doors with shower/toilet/sink. Laundry available but didn't use. We will be back! We camped at New River Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Park went through a bad flood and was a mess with mud. Lots of new gravel to help. Even with the new gravel the trailer wheels were sinking some. Leveling blocks under wheels were sinking. Power level at pedestal showed low voltage but the surge guard did not kick things off. I would stay there again but watch the weather and flood conditions before planning to visit. The owners were very nice and accommodating. The location of the campground is very nice. It's level and alongside the river. Grass lots. Very pretty and quiet. Newer looking bathroom and laundry facility. Although I did not use them. Train does run on other side of river. But it never bothered us.The location is in the country.Nearest Walmart/town of size is 15 miles away. But the area is beautiful. Enter from the west on 60, east is a little scary and up a mountain. Although semis do travel that part of 60. We would stay here again. Great area for motorcycles! We camped at New River Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

This is a clean, quiet and downright delightful campground nestled between cliffs on both sides of the Kanawha River. When approaching from the east, it is 14 miles on a narrow, winding road from the intersection of US-19 and US-60. The drive is much easier when coming from the west. It is convenient for visiting the Charleston area and less than 20 miles from the New River Gorge. Our full-service site (39) was a parallel to the river and very pretty! The owner is extremely friendly and is clearly committed to the ongoing upgrading of his facility. My one recommendation would be to improve the ambiance of the campground's entrance and office. We would definitely return if traveling to the Charleston WV area! We camped at New River Campground in a Motorhome.

We stayed for 4 nights in order to experience the outdoors in the surrounding areas. It's just 30 minutes or less away from most of the whitewater outfitters, and horse riding stables. We loved our campsite parallel right by the water. People would put their kayaks, canoes, and floats in directly in front of their campsites. The view from the New River and cliffs across the river was gorgeous! Trains would come thru parallel from the campground, across the river every couple of hours all day and night, but my husband and I slept in our motorhome and didn't hear them and the kids slept in their tents and weren't disturbed by them in the least. Hubby and kids used the bath house regularly and said they were clean. The kids enjoyed throwing a fishing line out and jumping in for swim. The campground sold fishing bait and we also bought firewood from the campground for the fire ring which have a built in grate for grilling. Each campsite also has a picnic table. We had shade so was unable to use our antenna, and the wi-fi was sporadic at our site, but we didn't miss it because we had so much to do, and just loved sitting out and soaking up the views. We didn't want to leave and would definitely come back again! We camped at New River Campground in a Motorhome.

This campground got some bad reviews from when previous owners had it. New owner does everything to make one feel welcome. We had a parallel river front site and it was great. The site could use more stone. I require Internet for work and the cable based Wi-Fi was excellent. We will be back next year again for a month because it is all about location, location, location.
