An older KOA, it's in need of site improvements. Some are OK, some are terrible. We had a three night stay in a nearly empty park and was assigned a lousy site when there when numerous sites in better condition available. The site was not level from front to rear and side to side. Dirt was the main site surface and gravel had not been added in a very long time. Mature trees also had exposed roots throughout many sites making walking difficult. Ask to see your site BEFORE accepting. We camped at Harpers Ferry / Civil War Battlefields KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Book 2 nights get 3rd night free deal by calling on phone only. Rate can be tricky because they have so many fees for people and dogs, and rates/deals by phone are different than online, some rates do not allow KOA discount. Every person and every dog wears a paid paper band. Our site was level but most sites are unlevel and almost impossible to get to for big rigs. Do not try to pull through our site, even though pull through site, it is much easier to back in. Do not arrive at night, interior roads super hard and unlevel to navigate. Wifi actually worked most of the time, speed was good, it took awhile for iPad to lock onto signal though. Att wireless signal 1 or 2 bars. Trash in fire pits and on campsites. Pay $20 extra to pick site, bundle of wood, and elastic picnic table cover. Otherwise they pick your site number. We camped at Harpers Ferry / Civil War Battlefields KOA in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Food Lion and Aldi's and Walmart are towards Charlestown, 10 minutes away. Mountain Diner very affordable and decent, next to Ruby Tuesday. Casino Buffet $25 very good. Food court inside too.

River Riders Tubing next door is $34, very worth it. Do the white rapids version of the tubing for more fun.

Fees: mandatory resort fee of $10 a person. Since we didn't have kids, the only thing we got for our $10 was pancakes on Saturday. Your coffee, sausage, etc. was extra. They also charge another $3.00 per pet/per night fee. Don't know why or what that got us. The short road leading to the campground is good, and is right off the highway. Note that the access roads in the campground going to the pull-through sites is gravel and very narrow. The big 5th wheelers around us struggled to maneuver and park. Because the sites are short, anyone parking their tow car or truck hugged the road. Reservations staff sent all in our group in the wrong direction. Sites are VERY close to each other. The group next to us sat at their table and grilled only 3 feet from our sewer hook up, right outside my window. We had no problem neighbors, and the lively group of 4 families with many children across from us were respectful of the quiet time. We enjoyed watching the kids all running from one campsite to another and having fun. Had trouble with our TV connections and a call to the office resulted in 2 very nice gentlemen arriving within 5 minutes to show us what we were doing wrong (it was us, not the campground). Kids across from us loved the pool. There is a shaded pet park with some agility equipment in it and benches. The mini golf is there, too. The grounds and buildings seem to be well maintained and very clean. We camped at Harpers Ferry / Civil War Battlefields KOA in a Motorhome.

Convenient to the National battlefield - right next to it. If you want to see historical sites, the park has a free shuttle that runs every 15-20 minutes that goes to the various sites and also takes you into historic Harpers Ferry. Enjoyed the water views from town.

Think twice about reserving here if you are a big rig. Sites are tight, road turns are sharp. We made it in our 40 foot with tow but had to back up several times to make a turn. For $78, I expect good paved roads and patios. Roads were semi-paved or gravel/dirt with many potholes and there were no concrete pads. Check-in area was big, paved and well marked. There just are not many choice in this area for big rigs. We camped at Harpers Ferry / Civil War Battlefields KOA in a Motorhome.

Pros:

-close to Harpers Ferry National Park.

-roads leading to park easy to navigate.

-clean restrooms.

-they give you free pancakes in the morning. Since we are gluten free, this wasn't worth it.

Cons:

-$10 resort fee NOT mentioned when reserving by phone

-This is not a "resort" facility.

-This place charges for a pet - the first place this entire summer to do so.

-internal roadways are too narrow. We saw a trailer trying to get to their site and they literally couldn't make one of the turns.

-they give you a coupon book for discounts at their own facility. Why not just lower the price??

-one coupon was for fudge - buy a pound, get 1/2 pound free. Since we were visiting daughter the next day for a week, we figured we would get some fudge to have for dessert several nights while we saw her. Went to the "coffee shop" to purchase some. All they had was a 1/4 pound of raspberry fudge. When will it be available? "Whenever the person who makes it brings it in."

-sites are DIRT! Most places that charge more than $50 per night have grass, cement, level sites, etc.

-Did I Mention A $10 Resort Fee?? Your KOA discount doesn't apply to this. We camped at Harpers Ferry / Civil War Battlefields KOA in a Motorhome.

This is the 3rd time we have stayed in this park. We were in the center shaded pull thrus by the store. The site we had ( 158) was way too small for our camper with 3 slides and not level. Our door opened up to a tree. Sites farther down the row were better. The roads in this section are tight, but doable. The water, electric and cable were good. WIFI was also good. The facilities included a coffee/wine store that offers wine tasting on Saturdays. Pool was opened for Mothers Day weekend but not heated. It appears that they are putting new sites into this park in the interior sections. I will only stay in the big rig sites at the front of this campground if we return. We camped at Harpers Ferry / Civil War Battlefields KOA in a Travel Trailer.

Big rig friendly with level sites. Wi-Fi and cable was good except did not have HGTV. There were numerous washers and dryers but half of them were broken. It also seemed like people in the community used the laundry facilities. The dog park was nice and convenient. We were for their big weekend of the Civil War Reenactment which made our weekend great. We stayed in the wooded pull though section of this park. The site was unlevel and dirt/ gravel. The water pressure and hookups were good. Average space between sites. This park offers free pancake breakfast and wine tasting which were both nice. Dog park was excellent. We would stay again if in this area. This was our first time to the park. The good: Upon arrival there is a large staging area to park and register. The office / store is nice and updated. The rest: We requested and received a pull-through site for our 40' coach. We were instructed to go through the park the wrong direction to make the turn into our site. The roadways are narrow and in order to make the turns you will brush trees and bushes. Our site was narrow and over hanging branches rested on the coach while parked in the site. The sites in this area are not too level, but the coach had no issues with the auto leveling system. The front part of our site was washed away and never replaced. Due to the site design there was no way we could pull through and exit our site. This park seems as it was designed for camping units many years ago and never adjusted to fit the size of today's units. For the price we were charged, I can't say the activities at this time of year could support. We camped at Harpers Ferry / Civil War Battlefields KOA in a Motorhome.

I generally only review anything when I have something good to say. RV parks that don't live up to their promotions are not that uncommon and it just usually is not worth the time to spread negativity. This particular facility, however, is worth an exception just in hopes of saving others the disappointment and aggravation of a poorly designed facility with just about the rudest front desk person we've encountered in 20 years of RVing. This won't be detailed, but the $125 fee for two nights in mid-week off-season; the abrupt, careless and downright rude behavior of the office staff; the narrow sites, unlevel and nothing more than parking spots, really; the non-functional WiFi and non-functional television cable. Well, they're probably enough to give an idea of our experience. I expect they are around only because they have no nearby competition. My advice - Find a different park if you want a pleasant experience. We camped at Harpers Ferry / Civil War Battlefields KOA in a Motorhome.

Their price is high, but they have a lot going on for kids and free pancakes on Sunday. Our price reflects an average for 3 nights at a "stay 2 nights get 1 free" discount. They charged me an additional $8 resort fee for all three nights, but since the email stated an incorrect amount for the resort fee, 2 nights of the resort fee was taken off our bill. Sites and roads are gravel. Our site was very narrow (we could not extend our awning). Since they were so full, the office said wifi could only be obtained at the office. When rigs started to leave, wifi was at our individual site. Very clean, people nice. Price is high, but this is about the only show in town. We camped at Harpers Ferry / Civil War Battlefields KOA in a Travel Trailer.

They gouge you for everything. We reserved a pull thru premium site with 50 amps. On top that fee they charged $2/day/dog and a "resort fee" of $8.00/person. For this amount we got a site on a double hill, fore and aft and side to side. We didn't have enough blocks to make it near level. They have tree branches which rub you rig on the way into the site at the top of the access road. Just watched a neighbor try to get into their site for more than 1/2 hr. There are only a few rigs in this area and you'd think they would give out the most level sites first. Large rigs beware. Will not ever return to this CG. It irritates me that some KOA's charge a "resort fee". Here that fee is $8.00. I would prefer that the rate just be increased to reflect the resort status. This KOA probably does qualify as a resort - it has a lot going on, with lot's of amenities, including free pancakes. Sites are gravel with some areas having grass between sites. Our site, #72 just fit our 34' motorhome. Water, sewer, electric, cable were excellent. Wi-Fi was also very strong. We would return again if in the area. Location is great for visiting the Harper's Ferry area. We camped at Harpers Ferry / Civil War Battlefields KOA in a Motorhome.
