This is a very large KOA adjacent to the Harper's Ferry National Historical Park. The RV park offers a mix of open and wooded sites, fairly close together but with enough room for the tow vehicle. Facilities are what you would expect at a KOA Resort. Interior roads are narrow but manageable. Cable TV picture quality was poor and off air tv provided only a few stations at our site. We camped at Harpers Ferry / Civil War Battlefields KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

I made the mistake of not reading RV Park Reviews before going to this KOA. Heed the warnings. We expected this to be a typical tourist area KOA: expensive and close sites. We picked it because it was mid-point from family and business needs. Will never stay again. There is a very nice pool and a few other things but, while the wooded areas look great for small TTs and tents, they put larger 5th wheels and motorhomes in a horrible gravelly, weedy, unlevel, tight area. We are a 45' motorcoach with a toad that had no business being accepted into this park. The roads throughout the park are not maintained with large gullies to high side trailers on. The sites have deep ruts at the grassy/mud ends from vehicles and trailers trying to enter and exit too tight sites. It's a mess. As we worked our way to our assigned spot we had to maneuver past a brick wall (the rest of the fence is wood so this is a telling sign that the area has been hit many times) with only about a 2" clearance then worry about hitting a pu truck parked on the other side. The site was unlevel and extremely tight. Went to the office and was told we could move to site 44 which was shorter, tighter and still unlevel. They do have about 5 really nice sites of which one was perfect for our size. While it was not occupied and would not be for several days they would not work with us to accommodate our needs. We took the site for use for 4 nights. The next day the manager lacking in conflict resolution skills, confronted me with the threat of eviction followed with the threat of calling the police to my husband. We called the company that owns this KOA location, Recreation Adventure Company, and never received a return call from the Director of Operations or anyone else after a promise that someone would definitely return the call. This cg, in its current configuration, can NOT manage big rigs. Heed the warnings posted. We camped at Harpers Ferry / Civil War Battlefields KOA in a Motorhome.

We stayed in their brand new pull through sites with concrete patio and hand laid stone fire pits and Adirondack furniture. The site was beautiful. But the site layout is too tight to pull through. Much easier to back in. Entry and exit from sites must be carefully planned because of narrow interior roads, tight turns, steep terrain, pot holes, untrimmed trees, and interior road layout. WiFi was super duper Uber slow. T-Mobile service was 1 bar. Rate above reflects fact that 3rd night is free. However dog charges and per person resort fees are still charged for 3rd night. I selected this park because it was little more than an hour's drive to DC and the Smithsonian, and there are few decent campgrounds any closer. I generally choose to camp away from big cities. The staff was very helpful and friendly. However, Harpers Ferry KOA was a disappointment, especially given the resort pricing I had to endure. The campground itself, only slightly larger than the parking lot in front of the office, was basically a gravel hill, divided into tight, barely large enough sites, with such poor drainage that the week's spate of showers littered the grounds with perpetual puddles. The power supply for my site was poorly located, forcing me to use an extension cable. When I arrived, and when I left, the campground was mostly empty, except for a few units parked in a row apparently reserved for long-term campers. But that week bracketed Easter weekend, when the park was packed to the gills! There was so little room in the sites that campers plunked their play equipment down in the lanes, so that when I returned from errands, I had to wait on the site-holders to move the equipment out of my way. Clearly it's a popular park for weekenders and holiday campers, who can return home to brag about roughing it. But for a traveler like myself, who lives in his RV in constantly changing locations, this is not a park I will choose again. When I return to the Smithsonian, I will look elsewhere. We camped at Harpers Ferry / Civil War Battlefields KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

We booked two sites online for our favorite area of the campground that is wooded. When we checked in we were told that part of the campground is closed for the season so we were assigned sites in an open area with many other campers who were there for the Thanksgiving holiday. It was like a parking lot. Cable TV and wifi reception were poor. Rate shown reflects a "Buy 2, Get 1 Free" campground deal. We would have been even more disappointed if we paid the full rate for sites we didn't want. We camped at Harpers Ferry / Civil War Battlefields KOA in a Motorhome.

This KOA was chosen for its location close to Harper's Ferry. It is a typical KOA with very tight sites. Interior roads in the camping loop were very tight. Utilities were easy to access. There were numerous OTA television channels. Verizon and Sprint coverage was very limited. The fenced dog park was large and shaded. The fire ring sits directly on the grass and there were 2 previous sites uncleaned of scraps and abut 2 inches below grade. The park was very crowded due to Halloween special events. We camped at Harpers Ferry / Civil War Battlefields KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

The Visitor Center for Harpers Ferry is located within 5 minutes at the park. From The Visitor Center you are able to take a shuttle to the old town and historical area of Harpers Ferry. Diesel was located about 2 miles from the park entrance. There was a very large laundry facility. Propane was available at the camp.

This park is very large but as others have said the sites are small, on hills, and the roads are tight. Lots of activities for kids. Used the bathroom once and did not return, it was filthy. Back side of campground has full timers. We were in the big rig area and had no trees at all which would be tough in the summer. This is another campground where the sewer connection is about 8 inches above the ground making it hard to dump. We had a wifi repeater right next to us but wifi was still slow. Cable was snowy most of the time. For the price we expected better. Probably would stay elsewhere next time. We camped at Harpers Ferry / Civil War Battlefields KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Turns are very tight. If you're a MH towing, disconnect in their very large parking lot. Sites are all on a hill but so is the entire state. The utility side of the site has very large rail ties which can make it difficult to open basement doors for hook up. The cable connection ended in a male plug which required a male-to-male connector. Luckily, an employee was passing by and got one from another site. Overall the individual sites are lacking maintenance. Wi-if was very slow and required repeated sign on. We camped at Harpers Ferry / Civil War Battlefields KOA in a Motorhome.

Over priced for what you get. It's not worth it. No escort, tight turn getting into site and worst getting out. Luckily no vehicles were parked in the way. What once was narrow asphalt drive is now crumbling rocks. Had to turn sharp by a power pole to exit, not easy with 39 ft. 5th wheel. First stay here was in 2011. No improvements at all. Wi-fi was bad, cable was as bad this time as before. Do not intend to stay here again. Three strikes and you're out. Stayed three times and that's enough. As with most KOAs, the sites were tight and the roads and sites were gravel. We had a great site with a bit more room than many, but most were fairly close to each other. The employees were very helpful, and there are a TON of activities for the kids at this campground -- more than the other KOAs I've visited. The camp store was very large and very well stocked. We enjoyed the movie theater during a summer downpour, and (while it needed some repairs) the mini-golf was great. The pool was good sized but could use some work, and it would be great if a lifeguard was on duty. We witnessed multiple kids breaking pool rules and endangering themselves and others, and unfortunately their parents weren't doing anything about it. We camped with friends who used a cabin in the back of the park. While the cabin itself was acceptable, the road down to it was in horrible shape with large ruts. Roads in the campground were, as a rule, very tight. Despite these points, however, we had a very nice time and would definitely stay there again if we're in the area. We camped at Harpers Ferry / Civil War Battlefields KOA in a Travel Trailer.

There is a shuttle into Harper's Ferry, but we were told that it costs money to park your car at the spot where the shuttle picks up. It's a one to two mile walk to the pick up spot but parking is limited in town, so it's best to use the shuttle.

Many of the sites are very unlevel. Some are level. Have to choose carefully. Recommend choosing your own site for $20 extra. Stay 2 nights get 1 night free deal is nice, although resort fees for 3rd night are not free. Electric at our site was low voltage at our site according to our RV surge protector. But KOA guys said they will only replace breaker if breaker trips since it takes them 45 minutes to replace. We camped at Harpers Ferry / Civil War Battlefields KOA in a Motorhome.

Food Lion is about 10 minutes away. ATT and Verizon Wireless are barely useable. 1 or 2 bars. Hard to upload videos to Facebook. KOA Wi-Fi was too slow to even check email most of the time. One morning it was fast enough to download an app though. Not reliable.

KOAs are never our first choice, but sometimes they are the only choice for a big rig. This park is no exception. The section for big-rigs is all pull-throughs, with narrow gravel lanes that slope gently downhill, and kind of terraced in steps down the hillside. We were assigned to a level spot at the bottom of the hill - but oh, my oh my, when it rained hard we were awash in mud. The narrow grassy strip alongside the coach was already muddy and straw-covered when we arrived, and it did not improve during our stay. Utilities were OK. Cell phone reception (Verizon) was marginal, but the wifi was OK. An OK park, but way overpriced. Having said all that, we did enjoy visiting Harpers Ferry and Antitam NPs. We camped at Harpers Ferry / Civil War Battlefields KOA in a Motorhome.

Not happy about the $10 a day "Resort" fee. They say that's for use of the pool, mini golf, "free" pancake breakfast (coffee not included). Putt Putt golf is run down and needs repairs. Pool was nice but the liner was mushy under your feet in some places. Cable didn't always work. No WiFi, Verizon cell service was ok. Camp store is very nice. Fire rings too close to other rv's, not safe. Too many stumps in camp sites. Lots of uneven sites. Dirt/gravel. We camped at Harpers Ferry / Civil War Battlefields KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Stayed here for a night on our way north. Not many campgrounds to chose from in this area. Check in was easy and staff explained all there is to do in the campground. Lots of stuff to keep kids busy, well stocked camp store. They do charge a ten dollar resort fee so we took advantage of their "free" pancake breakfast. Extra charge for drinks, bacon and sausage. Interior roads good, our site needed some leveling. Sites close together as in most KOA's. Restrooms and showers were clean. Good location if you want to explore the area as there is a lot to see and do. We camped at Harpers Ferry / Civil War Battlefields KOA in a Travel Trailer.

Given the rate paid we had expected a much more developed park. The few channels of cable TV when it worked were mostly snow. WIFI was only intermittent and only marginally usable when the park empties on a Sunday. When the park is full wifi is nonexistent. The staff is courteous, but the promised email of our receipt never arrived after 3 days. ATT wireless service is very weak and intermittent on our site. The amenities are fantastic- some of the best we've seen at a KOA. The dog park, pool area, laundry and office and associated buildings are quite well done, but the $10.00 a day "resort fee" seems a bit over the top--especially if you do not use the amenities. The pool liner is showing some wear and is bubbled out-but it was clean. The sites are not spectacular but are adequately sized. However we really had to strain to get our rig leveled as ours was very uneven. The rear section of the park is wooded and has the ambiance of a state park, but big rigs would have problems getting in and out of that area. The forward area is set up for larger pull through transient rigs with FHU which we would rate as "average". Not sure if we will visit here again, but campground pickins are scarce in these parts.
