I stayed for a week at the end of October. The park is immaculate, easy in/out, sites huge with gravel, beautiful views of Summersville lake. Within minute of route 19 that takes you to all the parks. Only one downside: no laundry. We camped at Summersville Lake Retreat in a Fifth Wheel.

Date of Stay: July, 2018 - $43.00
Overall Rating:

There is so much to like about this campground. We were fortunate enough to secure a 50 amp full service pull-through for our 15 day stay. The campground is very spacious and has incredible views towards the lake. There are many places to walk through the forest that you would think you were miles from civilization. The folks in the office are super helpful and the grounds are immaculate. On the negative side, wifi is non-existent. During our 2 week stay we could rarely connect and when we could the speed was so slow even emails were next to impossible. We burned up a lot of data on our phone plans. Although we had sewer hook-up, many sites do not have sewer and there is no onsite sewer dump which can be problematic for someone wanting to stay more than a couple of days and not in one of the pull-through sites. Also there is no cable; however, we had satellite and reception was good. There is no laundry facility in the campground which can also be an issue for someone wanting to stay more than a day or so. During our stay most of the campers were here for the weekend or only a nightly stay so lack of laundry and sewer was probably not an issue. There are also many tent sites nestled in the forest which look awesome. This is a great location for exploring the West Virginia countryside. We loved Lewisburg and Charleston as well as many of the parks and lookouts within easy travel time. Would definitely stay here again as long as full hookup site was available. We camped at Summersville Lake Retreat in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

The restaurants in nearby Summersville are your typical fast food places. There is a great little spot in Mount Nebo only a couple of miles away, Craft Kings that offers craft beer and great food. There are also nice spots in Lewisburg and Charleston in you are up for touring a bit.

Beautiful family park. Thought it was a bit pricey for no laundry, no dog space, no sewer or dump station. No pool but the beachfront Lake is just down the street. We camped at Summersville Lake Retreat in a Fifth Wheel.

Our stay was during Labor Day weekend and involved moving from a water/electric site to a FHU. The park is beautiful and yes, it's a working lighthouse! I would have given a better rate but the park lacks a dump station and a laundry. We camped at Summersville Lake Retreat in a Fifth Wheel.

This is a unique park because of the lighthouse. The park is very nice with lots of green, open space. The staff is very helpful. Lots of room to walk. We enjoyed our stay here very much. No cable, wifi is o.k. but you can get over-the-air TV and there is a good Verizon signal. Only draw back is no laundry. We camped at Summersville Lake Retreat in a Fifth Wheel.

Staff couldn't be nicer. All very helpful upon check in, escorted to site. Someone cancelled and we were bumped up to one of the prime sites with view of the lake. Trash container at each site which is picked up daily. We only stayed overnight this time, but roads are good and easy to pull into site w/o disconnecting our tow. We camped at Summersville Lake Retreat in a Motorhome.

This is a beautiful campground with large spacious sites. It is designed for family camping, with an abundance of tent sites. The staff is very friendly and very helpful. Wifi is excellent. The restrooms and showers are very clean and well maintained. The only drawback is, there only 12 full hookup sites(6 50 amp) and limited amenities. Some leveling is needed and each site has it's own trash can. That being said, we would definitely stay there again. Hello Otis. We camped at Summersville Lake Retreat in a Travel Trailer.

Really clean spacious park. Nice part of the world and very scenic. No cable but 4-5 over air channels. Site included picnic table and fire ring. Only concern was strange check in procedure. You check in at the gate (not the office where there is lots of room for people to go around you) so those checking in holds up access for everyone else trying to get into the park. We camped at Summersville Lake Retreat in a Fifth Wheel.

This is a very nice park with terrific views. Our pull thru site was gravel/grass but large and fairly level. We liked the fire rings and garbage cans at each site. Staff was very friendly and helpful. We did not use the restrooms or showers but, as well-maintained as the rest of the park is, we would guess they're fine. They have West Virginia's only working lighthouse and you can purchase tickets to tour it. They do have one rule that I wonder about; they have a limit of two dogs per site. I have a problem understanding how three 10 pound dogs could be more of a problem than two 75 pound dogs but only stayed one night so didn't raise the issue. There are very few campgrounds in this area so we would definitely stay here again. We camped at Summersville Lake Retreat in a Fifth Wheel.

Beautiful spacious park with all amenities. Easy access with no obstructions. Fall colors in the surrounding woods were fantastic. Only a few miles to Summersville with stores and restaurants. Will be back for sure. We camped at Summersville Lake Retreat in a Fifth Wheel.

We paid for a pull-through and "view" site at $41.60 with our Good Sam discount. The view was outstanding! There is no lake access but the park has several trails with nice views. We took 1 trail today that was marked 1.2 miles that I would consider moderate to difficult but we enjoyed the workout . Staff is very nice and worked through Wi-Fi issues until they were finally resolved. Sites are well spaced with a lot of room in between. Each site also has fire pit and your own garbage can...very convenient! We camped at Summersville Lake Retreat in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

Well managed checkin. We had one of the deluxe pull thru sites. Great view of the lake from the hill where the sites are located. Site was easy in and out, level and had clear view for satellite. Very clean and manicured park with a manned security gate. The bathrooms and showers were great. There is an area for ping pong and corn hole tossing. The lighthouse is cool. They also have boat rentals available, but we did not have the time this trip to check that out. Not far from Summersville for supplies and a great little Mexican restaurant suggested by the park. Also convenient to the River Gorge area. This park would be our choice to stay in again when we are in area. We camped at Summersville Lake Retreat in a Fifth Wheel.

Very nice campground with good space between sites. Gravel roads. Our site was electric (50 amp) and water only as the full hookup sites were taken. Price reflects a Good Sam discount. Very quiet and the staff couldn't have been nicer or more accommodating. Led us to various sites and let us choose location. Satellite reception and cell phone (AT&T) were very good. Easy on and off Rt 19. We would camp here again. We camped at Summersville Lake Retreat in a Motorhome.

Park is close to highway, but no road noise. Easy in/out. On top of a mountain with some sites in open, good for satellite reception. Roads and sites are gravel, sites are not level, but not too .far from it. Power, water, and cell (AT&T) were good. We would stay here again. We camped at Summersville Lake Retreat in a Motorhome.
