My perspective is that of a traveler with a 40' motorhome. This is a very nice campground with lots of amenities including golf course, beautiful lake with swimming, fishing and boating, resort restaurants, playgrounds, tennis courts, and more. Previous posts reflect the reviews primarily of "campers" and they are for the most part accurate and relevant, so I won't repeat all the fine attributes. However, I won't give the review a "ten" for the following reasons. 1) The majority of sites are only 30 amp with very few 50 amp services available. 2) although the sites are paved, many could be more level front to back. 3) Access with big rigs is tight but doable without tree damage if careful. 4) The entrance guard shack is very tight for 40' MH with toad. Although I called ahead and had a reservation, the attendant did not have a record and because it is single lane, I had several vehicles backed up behind me because they could not go around due to single lane access. I had to pull ahead and park off the road and hike back to the shack. It happens, but they really could easily make room by moving dividers to allow folks to pass by. 5) For a state park the cost is much higher than it should be. This is a premium rate for top locations anywhere in the country and although it's a very nice facility, it certainly doesn't rank this rate. 6) Check-in requires signature and initialing several documents including a "contract doc" which I found very cumbersome and overkill for a campground. All that said, this truly is a very nice facility and I would return here. But it really is better suited for family camping rather than for an overnight stay while traveling. We camped at Stonewall Resort, Briar Point Campground in a Motorhome.

Date of Stay: June, 2018 - $57.00
Overall Rating:

This is a well maintained, neatly designed campground with a nice "camping" feel to it despite the paved parking pads and full hook-ups and other nice amenities. The RV sites are large although not particularly private in any way. Each RV site has well located utilities placement, a large gravel table, chair, canopy and activity area with properly useful fire rings place away from the parking pads, and each site has its own trash receptacle (so you need not walk to a central dumpster - nice). Only about 8 sites presently have 50 amp electric service, the rest are 30 amp. Water quality is very nice and water pressure runs a bit on the high side so use a regulator. Sewer connections all seem close to the pads and the openings low to the ground, making for good connection and draining. Many sites have very nice views out over the lake, especially those along the northwest side of the peninsula that defines the campground area. These same sites have easy access to the lake shore for launching kayaks, canoes, floats, etc. and there are many mooring posts for boats, all within the campground. There are several tenting sites, too, built along the southeast shore of the peninsula with great views out over the lake. All of these sites have large and level wooden platforms for tents, picnic tables, fire rings, and great shade. The drawback is they are down a significant slope through the woods (can be slippery when wet) and they are quite a distance from the nearest bathhouse facilities and some 200 feet or more from parking. This is a resort so there are many wonderful entertainment amenities, although most are some distance away from the campground. There is a free and very prompt shuttle that will take campers right from their sites to any location on the resort grounds. Use of the very nice pool and other activities requires a daily pass per site that currently costs $15, but it covers your entire party for a day. Too many things to cover here. See their Web site. Tips for other Campers:

Three full service sit down restaurants in this resort with very good food but they are a bit expensive. Stillwater, in the main lodge, is the biggest and main restaurant. Lightburns is in the golf center way up on a hill with a spectacular view of the entire resort from virtually any table. There is a snack and drinks (bar) stand in the pool area and a lounge with drinks and sandwiches in the main lodge.

Stonewall Resort Briar Point Campground is quite possibly the nicest campground on the East Coast. Shall we compare?... 1) Very spacious sites. 2) Campground sits on a spiny peninsula on Stonewall Lake with a commanding view of the water. 3) Arnold Palmer Signature golf course next to campground. 4) $14 per day gets family access to all lodge amenities A) Heated indoor/outdoor pool B) 2 hot tubs C) Saunas D) Spa E) Workout Room 5) Stunning views of the Lodge at night 6) Daily boat tours on Lake 7) Nearby marina 8) World class dining hall with daily buffets 9) Double wide paved access roads 10) Scenic pedestrian bridgeway from campground to Lodge 11) Easy 3 mile drive from I-79. We could go on as there is so much to do and see at this resort/campground. The only negatives are there are only 35 spaces (more are being added) so this place books up fast. At current only 6 of the 35 sites have 50 amp. We hear that upgrades are coming for all sites to 50 amp. They could use a camp store (we heard that is being added soon as well.) Tips for other Campers:

The towns of Weston and Buckhannon are a short drive away with restaurants, Walmart and other services. Stonewall Resort offers shuttle tours to Lambert Winery and the Insane Asylum Experience in Weston. There is a small convenience store about a mile from the entrance to the park. You can get ice and concessions there. There is no camp store at the campground.

Only gave it a 6. Because of problem we had. Over all I like the park but I think $46.00 per night (plus extra fees?) is a little high and if you do any thing other then camp you pay extra per activity. As senior citizens out of season we paid half. We set up hooked up electric went off we reset the breaker twice. Woke up next day no electric. Went to check in told them about problem 9:00 a.m. 10:30 a man came out and checked the box and said a piece was broken he would get the part and come back and fix it. We went to town ate lunch came back not fixed. At 4:00 called and complained, said they would check with maintenance and see what the hold up was. 5:00 came around and said we could move to another site about 60 ft. away. We was only here for 3 days and it was in the 80,s but the site was shady and had a nice view of the lake the site they wanted us to go to had a nice view of a cemetery. Then 5:30 they wanted to run an extension cord from another site through the camp grounds to our site. Yes they were trying. But they said the camp grounds was full we saw several empty spots. What irritated us most was it took them all day to decide they didn't have a 30 amp breaker and had to order one. As many sites they have they don't have any spare breakers. Had to talk to about 6 people and none of them understood the problem. We had an adapter that we plugged in and had 20 amps. We just had to be careful about what we used and the air conditioner didn't work but it was shady and we spend most of our time outdoors. A very frustrating day. To give a review is a pain you have to register then go down a list to find the state in which you want to review then the city and finally the park. I may change my mind about camping here again. There are other campgrounds near by with a view of a lake and they are cheaper. They did give us a free night for our inconvenience. Oh and the WI FI only works now and then. We camped at Stonewall Resort, Briar Point Campground in a Travel Trailer.

This park was such a nice surprise! It is attached to the resort, which offers very inexpensive amenities such as pool, bicycles, kayaks, canoes, stand-up paddle-boards, etc. The sites are well spaced for the most part, and many offer a nice view of the lake. There are multiple trails of varying lengths to hike, and the whole place is just very relaxing and quiet. We will definitely come here again and spend more time exploring the area. Very difficult to judge. On one hand, the property is very well run by very friendly, accommodating staff. But the devil is in the details. Every morning the guy who empties your individual trash can (nice), ran out of newspapers before he got to my site (not nice). The resort boasts a wonderful restaurant (nice), that was closed the night we wanted to go "because we forgot that we had already booked a private party" (not nice). The resort has a nice little boat that takes guests around the lake (nice), that was out of service when we were there (not nice). The resort fee of $15 per day per site will allow you to use the pool (nice), but it cannot guarantee that maintenance will not be power washing the apron of the pool area, all day, for two days straight in anticipation of the holiday weekend (not nice). That being said, nice resort, nice location, nice staff, nice, nice, nice. Just bad timing I guess. We camped at Stonewall Resort, Briar Point Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

This park is part of a huge complex with a golf course, marina, restaurants and more. Some I spoke to, said this park was their summer vacation destination. Many of the campsites have excellent views of the lake. Many were on the lake kayaking and fishing. It is a very friendly park from staff to campers.

We were on site 39. It was the last available site. We drove in without a reservation and got lucky. Our site was large enough that I didn't have to unhook the tow vehicle for an over night stay. We liked the fact that each campsite had its own trash receptacle. The site was paved with a gravel area with picnic table and fire ring. The site was very spacious with grass surrounding it. Utilities were excellent and well located. We camped at Stonewall Resort, Briar Point Campground in a Travel Trailer.

The campground is on a peninsula with water on three side near the Stonewall Resort across the water. I am very impressed with how well maintained this campground is kept up and how nice the sites are with blacktop for each trailer and gravel area for each picnic table and fire ring. There is plenty of grass around each site. There is a boardwalk near the front of the park near site #1 which goes over the the lodge and is a beautiful walk, I went over several times while walking my dog Callie. There are at least two playground areas for children. I noticed several people fishing off the edges of the park. Each site has it own trash container and recycling container which is enclosed by a wooded structure and covered by a steel grate to prevent wildlife from getting in, a very nice convienience. I am only passing through on a multi-state trip but would definitely return again if I were in the area again. The other campers were very friendly as well. Not sure if that is because this is West Virginia. We camped at Stonewall Resort, Briar Point Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Take a walk on the boardwalk crossing the water to the lodge and bring your camera! There is also a graveyard near site #40 with one of the nicest gravestones of a person who loved camping and the outdoors, don't forget to take a look. The etching is incredible.

The campground was pretty. Nice wide sites. Water and power were stable. The downside was using any of the amenities nickled and dimed you. You need a wrist band for this and a different one for that. Policy was newly changed yet did not reflect the website or employee knowledge. Would not return. Our experience with the tent camping was horrible. It rained (not the bad part). The bad part was there was no gravel at any of the tent sites. So when the rain came it like walking on ICE!!! So slick and the tree roots sticking out of the ground, everyone was tripping over them. PLEASE GRAVEL THE TENT SITES!!!!!!!! Other than that it was a great weekend. Lodge breakfast was awesome. My family stayed Thanksgiving week.

What an outstanding place.

Our site #10 was perfect. Backing up to the lake.

Paved site. Huge. Picnic table, fire pit.

Free shuttle to the lodge. Just call them and the shuttle is there in 10 minutes or less.

The lodge is beautiful. Well decorated. Awesome indoor and outdoor pool. Hot tubs in and out.

The service was impeccable from the manager down. Almost Dianeyesque. Everyone actually seemed to want to take care of you.

Wife and Daughter visited the spa.

We dined at both restaurants. Muskies and Stillwater. Outstanding.

Stonewall is the best Rv park we have stayed at. And this is the 1st review I have ever written.

Overall a great experience. We wanted to get some souvenirs, their shop was closed for the night.. They opened it up just for us.. Wow!!!

Thank you Stonewall. We camped at Stonewall Resort, Briar Point Campground in a Motorhome.
