We had a hard time believing "free" and we learned there is something to the saying "you get what you pay for". Had we been able to secure a spot, I might have given an extra point. However, it appears the city has forgotten about this little diamond in the rough. They also don't enforce their 2 day maximum stay rule. One older class A looked like it had put down roots. I wish I could say the best things in life are free but not so in this case. Keep on driving! Verizon 4 bars LTE. We camped at St. Albans Roadside Park in a Fifth Wheel.

It's free! There are ONLY 3 sites in the park. The first night I parked in the park parking lot and found a plug at the power distribution panel to get electric. The water was turned off because the faucet broke recently and hasn't been repaired yet. They turned the water off to the entire park because of this broken faucet. Recent rains caused a large puddle behind the last site that made plugging into the electric post very tricky. Noise from the road isn't too bad after midnight but starts back up early in the morning. The campground is overly lit by street lights. Constant stream of locals playing tourist thru the CG. We camped at St. Albans Roadside Park in a Travel Trailer.

This is an excellent stop over for a night or two. We came expecting to leave a donation in the box but the donation box had tape over it. A policeman drove through and I asked him about it. He notice the taped-over box but said he didn't know anything about it and didn't seem interested. During summer a 2 night max is enforced and maybe the drop box is working. This time of year we were told you can stay longer. There is a dump station and fresh water as you come in. There are 3 pull-through sites which can handle at most a 32 ft unit. Each with 15 & 30 amp plugs. There seem to be more open area on the other side of the park for larger units with 2 or 3 electric outlets.

The only negative is the 4 lane divided highway in front of where you park, but it does quiet down at night. The view of the river on the other side is beautiful.

HikingRooster reports:The other units reported on the other side of the park are in the marina and are not for public use. The city uses those spots to park special use vehicles. We camped at St. Albans Roadside Park in a Motorhome.

This is a small roadside city park that has 3 or 4 overnight spots with 20 and 30 amp service. There is a water fill station and a dump station. There is no charge for use of the campground or fill and dump stations, but donations are accepted. The restrooms are in the public park area and have no showers. The campground sits between the main road and the river, there will be road noise and well as river boat vibrations, but for the price it is a bargain. This is a great stop over campground. We camped at St. Albans Roadside Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

There is a small shopping mall across the road that has a Kroger, K-Mart, McDonalds, Family Style Restaurant ( Mayberry's) Pizza Place, Chinese Restaurant, Goody's , and several other little stores. Also many other restaurants within 1/2 mile. GREAT STOP OVER CAMPGROUND.

Overall Rating:

Situated on the bank of the Kanawha River in St. Albans, WV Three pull-through sites are available for year-round use while water is only available between April 1 and October 31. While the sites are very close to Rt. 60 (a busy road) traffic subsides around 7 PM. A 30A and 20A circuit is available at each site. While limited to three sites, the marina parking lots is capable of accommodating several large vehicles with trailers. During the summer months the city prefers that only vehicles launching boats use the marina parking lot during daylight hours. We camped at St. Albans Roadside Park in a Motorhome.

Noted that this park had not be reviewed recently. Nothing has changed since the previous review. The park can hold 6, but tonight there are only 2 sites occupied. Donations accepted but stays are limited to 2 nights. Park is between highway and river so you have the best and worst of both. I definitely would stay here again. All the sites are the same size and we have a 30 Class A, with a Jeep Toad and we barely fit in our site, so anything longer with a Toad would be a problem. We camped at St. Albans Roadside Park in a Motorhome.

The City of St. Albans is to be commended for such a beautiful park, and for making it available for small RVs. There is a donation box, and a 2 night limit. The view of the river is beautiful, and the park is on the bank of the river. There is a busy highway beside the park, with stores and restaurants across the street. There is 120v 15 amp electrical service, but no 30-50 amp service. the only water is available at the dump station, so you can refill your water supply tank. The bathrooms had graffiti, but appeared clean, but no showers. There is a 2 day stay limit. I stayed 2 days, and would love to return, if ever in the Charleston, WV area again. The fee was free but there is a donations box. We camped at St. Albans Roadside Park in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

This is a tiny park between a busy street and a River. There are 15 amp electrical outlets. There are no showers--but there are toilets. The facilities are locked by 8 P.M. The fee is a free will donation. It is close to a grocery store, K-Mart and a McDonald's. 38.38834 -81.82655 1477 Maccorkle Ave. I loved seeing the barges on the River. I would stay here again. We camped at St. Albans Roadside Park in a Motorhome.
