This is a small park cut into the local hilly terrain. The gravel roads are narrow with tight turns. Most sites are not level. We needed blocks under the front tires and jacks to keep from going Excess Slope. There is one site (12) that is Big Rig capable. Otherwise anything over 32' is too long for majority of the sites. We are 43'. The park is quiet and dark at night. Electric is 20/30/50 amp and the water pressure and quality is very good. Location for touring the Apostle Island area is great too. Hence the costly night fee. FYI. They have a 5 hour checkin window, 1pm to 6 pm. According to their rules, check in after 6pm is an extra $50. We camped at Apostle Islands Area Campground in a Motorhome.

A young couple, just took over this campground about 5 weeks ago. They are very helpful and are working hard at inproving all the little items and tasks that the previous owner left them with. This was already a nice campground and this ambitious young couple is working to make it a lot better. This is definitely our place to stay when ever we're in this area. All it lacks is paved interior roads. There is a problem with some dust control on the gravel roads, but the new owners have been working on the roads every day we've been here. We camped at Apostle Islands Area Campground in a Motorhome.

The website advises they will not reserve on the phone - you are to print and mail in a reservation request along with a check for full payment. Hard to do when you are in the road so I took a chance and called. The man that answered was very nice and said they were new owners and they did take reservations. Wish I had known before I tried 6 other places since I couldn't print their form. He said he would have to check and see if they had a space for me and get back to me. Since we were traveling with spotty cell coverage I called back an hour later and got a very nice lady and she said she just got the message and they did have room! She took my credit card and I was happy. We got here over an hour ago and have been trying to set up ever since. When we saw the spot they put us in, a pull thru even though my confirmation said back in, we knew it would be a problem. There are 2 huge trees behind the spot so the entire space leans to the road. We are not novices but for a Motorhome spot this is a challenge. My husband went up and asked if there was any way we could move to one of the 4 other sites nearby that are in flat ground and empty and was told those were all booked for the same time that we were here. But I guess because the office put us in the crappy site we are stuck even though we are here. This is not a great beginning to our Apostle Island trip. If you do have to stay here, don't let them put you in site 14. There is no map on their site so you can't tell anything, but ask. Oh, I just remembered! We are fortunate that there was a clean out for the sewer on the opposite side of our site as the one we supposed to use is uphill! And we all know that it doesn't roll uphill! We camped at Apostle Islands Area Campground in a Motorhome.

The park is very beautiful, lush and green. Beautiful mature trees and very large green sites. It is near Bayfield WI which is a wonderful city on Lake Superior. When we checked in on last Friday night it was the new owners 1st day. They are delightful, young and excited about their new opportunity. I believe they will make this a 10 in the future. We have stayed twice and enjoyed our stay. We camped at Apostle Islands Area Campground in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

You can catch a ferry to Madeline Island which we were visiting for the annual Inline Skate Marathon. Ashland WI is just 20 miles to the south and a great little city to visit with very friendly people. There are parks, water falls, and national forest everywhere.

This park is now for sale, which explains the lack of investment in making this park the best in Bayfield. So few options in the area and none above average. This is an older park, tight turns/campsites, hanging branches, 30 amp only, sites old gravel with some just dirt and gravel, many not level. Would not stay here again if possible. Would go to Legendary Resort & Casino Campground, at least was right on beautiful lake Superior, but nothing else to brag about for the campsites. Bayfield has so much to offer, except good campgrounds it seems for a 32' motorhome. Took the Apostle Island Cruise which was very enjoyable. Eat at the fantastic The Fat Radish, twice.

When we looked up the campground for our stay they made a point of saying how level the sites were and how friendly the service was. When we got there, however, we found that they weren't very friendly. We had read nothing stating this campground doesn't take credit cards, we were lucky we had cash on hand. The man who took care of us was rude, short and rather grumpy, as if we were encroaching on his time. He was rude when he stated we could not go outside our site into the woods at all, and that the dogs must be on a very short leash at all times. We can understand the rules, but the method of imparting them on us was rather short.

As we drove to the site we found massive man-made speed bumps, these weren't little and were tough to drive over on a slant. The site wasn't level in the least, we were listed to one side no matter how many times we attempted to find a better leveled area. A little uneven is to be expected, nature doesn't always comply after all, but this left us with a very long step down out of the side door and if you opened a cupboard the door would swing on it's own.

The bathrooms were not as advertised - very old-school girl scout camp style, not a problem but they were advertised as clean and kept up. These were little more than open air stalls. The sinks were in the next room over, you had to step outside and go around to get to them. Again, not a problem; they were just not as advertised. The shower was dirty, dark and $1.50 per five minutes, and not very hot.

The dump station was so unkempt that you needed a wrench and a hammer to get it so you could hook up!

Overall it was a poor experience with poor service. Be prepared for hilly interior roads, dirt roads and washed out sections. Uneven, bumpy, and rough. We camped at Apostle Islands Area Campground in a Motorhome.

The owner assigned us a site with DirecTV service from our mounted antenna. The park was quite hilly but sites were fairly flat. I resented the sarcastic wording on internal stop and speed limit signs. In checking in, the owner asked my if I could behave for 4 days. My appearance is that of a senior citizen! Ranks down there with the worst campgrounds we've been in. When we called, we were told they were booked full for the nights we wanted but if we could postpone and come in on Sunday, they would take good care of us. Couldn't make a reservation because they don't take credit cards; wouldn't even write our name down in the book for a site. When we arrived on Sunday, the owner was grumpy and acted like it was an imposition to deal with us at all. Finally, a site materials, a 30-amp, back-in, too short for a 40 ft. rig. First job was to trim the trees so the branches wouldn't scrape the roof and back of the motorhome. The interior roads have deep rutted trenches supposedly for water drainage. Rest assured, driving over them even at a crawl will rearrange everything in your cabinets...an underground pipe would do the job. The sites weren't very level but we managed. The power went off twice Sunday night; too many rigs on the same line and we had to run our generator. On the bright side, the water pressure was good and it was very quiet at night. Definitely would NOT stay here again. We camped at Apostle Islands Area Campground in a Motorhome.

Small, but very nice campground. Very convenient to everything to see in Apostle Islands National Lakeshore, just about a mile into town, near u-pick berry farm and orchards. Nicely laid out with sites surrounding a large open playfield and playground--lots of area to set up games, etc. Some sites more level than others, but still able to level up with some blocks. Owner warns you about drainage ditches across the gravel road, just be sure to go heed his warning--drive slowly and pay attention and no problem. Owners very accommodating about moving to another site we liked better. Second time we've stayed here and will stay here on our next visit. We camped at Apostle Islands Area Campground in a Motorhome.

Unlike another reviewer, I had no difficulty navigating the site in my 37' class A. It is hilly, but not a big deal. The campground is nice, quiet, and reasonably close to town. We enjoyed our stay here. We couldn't get Wi-Fi at our site, but Verizon service was OK. They did have new digital cable boxes that could be used for a $50 refundable deposit. We didn't try using it. Main campground is difficult to navigate with a large motorhome. Roads need maintenance and trees need trimming. Campground rules are many and posted throughout the park. Owners are angry and unwelcoming, even yelling at guests at the front office. We would not stay here again. We camped at Apostle Islands Area Campground in a Motorhome.

This is a nice park., Our space looked out at Madeline Island and Lake Superior. Well maintained, but a little tight for some rigs. We have a 40 foot motor home and had a big space, but they have limited big rig spaces. The showers need money to access them. Didn't use any of the services except the utilities. Had to settle for 30amp to get the view. We camped at Apostle Islands Area Campground in a Motorhome.

We found this to be a lovely park, and would certainly stay again. It's close to the pretty town of Bayfield, and a short drive to Red Cliff or Ashland. You can catch the ferry to Madeline Island, take a boat cruise around the islands, or a glass bottom boat tour: all from Bayfield. The campground was clean, well maintained, spacious, and quiet. Very nice. We camped at Apostle Islands Area Campground in a Motorhome.
