This is a small park cut into the local hilly terrain. The gravel roads are narrow with tight turns. Most sites are not level. We needed blocks under the front tires and jacks to keep from going Excess Slope. There is one site (12) that is Big Rig capable. Otherwise anything over 32' is too long for majority of the sites. We are 43'. The park is quiet and dark at night. Electric is 20/30/50 amp and the water pressure and quality is very good. Location for touring the Apostle Island area is great too. Hence the costly night fee. FYI. They have a 5 hour checkin window, 1pm to 6 pm. According to their rules, check in after 6pm is an extra $50. We camped at Apostle Islands Area Campground in a Motorhome.

The website advises they will not reserve on the phone - you are to print and mail in a reservation request along with a check for full payment. Hard to do when you are in the road so I took a chance and called. The man that answered was very nice and said they were new owners and they did take reservations. Wish I had known before I tried 6 other places since I couldn't print their form. He said he would have to check and see if they had a space for me and get back to me. Since we were traveling with spotty cell coverage I called back an hour later and got a very nice lady and she said she just got the message and they did have room! She took my credit card and I was happy. We got here over an hour ago and have been trying to set up ever since. When we saw the spot they put us in, a pull thru even though my confirmation said back in, we knew it would be a problem. There are 2 huge trees behind the spot so the entire space leans to the road. We are not novices but for a Motorhome spot this is a challenge. My husband went up and asked if there was any way we could move to one of the 4 other sites nearby that are in flat ground and empty and was told those were all booked for the same time that we were here. But I guess because the office put us in the crappy site we are stuck even though we are here. This is not a great beginning to our Apostle Island trip. If you do have to stay here, don't let them put you in site 14. There is no map on their site so you can't tell anything, but ask. Oh, I just remembered! We are fortunate that there was a clean out for the sewer on the opposite side of our site as the one we supposed to use is uphill! And we all know that it doesn't roll uphill! We camped at Apostle Islands Area Campground in a Motorhome.

This park is now for sale, which explains the lack of investment in making this park the best in Bayfield. So few options in the area and none above average. This is an older park, tight turns/campsites, hanging branches, 30 amp only, sites old gravel with some just dirt and gravel, many not level. Would not stay here again if possible. Would go to Legendary Resort & Casino Campground, at least was right on beautiful lake Superior, but nothing else to brag about for the campsites. Tips for other Campers:

Bayfield has so much to offer, except good campgrounds it seems for a 32' motorhome. Took the Apostle Island Cruise which was very enjoyable. Eat at the fantastic The Fat Radish, twice.

We try to give all parks a chance, even if the reviews are somewhat bad. We are staying here for a week. We have two sites. They make you send check prior to arrival for payment in full. Then when you get here they charge you a extra $5.00 nite, because they had no sites that you paid for, so they give you upper sites with a so called view of the lake, funny. So, they charged us $40.00 nite plus $5.00 nite electric plus $5.00 nite for no view. Then if you want to use their showers, they charge you. No laundry room or amenities. So this park is over charging. The managers are very rude as in previous reviews, its time for retirement. It is a nice little park, but we would never stay here again or recommend it. We camped at Apostle Islands Area Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

We chose this campground because of the close proximity to Bayfield and because it had full hook-ups. The Darylrimple campground has electric, but only water stations and not at each site. If you need satellite, make sure you have a site that the satellite is not blocked by trees. Ours was fine. The sites are gravel and our was not level :-(. It's not a 5 star campground, but adequate. Tips for other Campers:

Apostle island tour is okay. The islands are uninhabited and used for camping or canoe/kayaking. The best of the tour is the view of the caves at devils island. The history is good, but would not do this tour again.

I don't think I have ever rated a campground this low. The owner isn't pleasant, there are rules for everything and signs about the rules everywhere. The bathrooms are old, clean, but primitive. Doors aren't big enough to really provide privacy, you are only partially covered by a building. The showers are even older and worse. They may be clean, but very unattractive. The two pull-through sites are facing the road so the front door of the RV is less than 4 ft from the road. The only saving grace was it was possible to reserve a site, but we had to drive here to do it, since they only accept cash and check. Rate is based on staying 7 days. Main campground is difficult to navigate with a large motorhome. Roads need maintenance and trees need trimming. Campground rules are many and posted throughout the park. Owners are angry and unwelcoming, even yelling at guests at the front office. We would not stay here again. We camped at Apostle Islands Area Campground in a Motorhome.

Some sites have a sewer hookup -- ours didn't. Campground is on a hillside, some roads are paved, most are narrow but easily navigated. Our site was pretty private, shaded (not all are), and reasonably level. Lots of "Don't" signs all over the campground, makes one feel like you are not really welcome. The owner, while personable enough to us, seems like he has owned the campground too long and feels most campers are not the brightest people in the world. The campground is well located for sightseeing in the area. I thought the charge was a bit high for what was offered. We camped at Apostle Islands Area Campground in a Motorhome.

As others have said, big rig friendly is limited to certain sites. Very few true level sites at all. The weirdest thing is the toilets in a pseudo outside situation. The sites are well maintained and the view from a few sites on top is great but over all the charge is high for what you get. With limited campgrounds in the area they can charge what they want. We'll stay here again for a short time, but only up on the hill. We camped at Apostle Islands Area Campground in a Motorhome.

Great location but not a Big Rig friendly site. The main area (sites 1 - 27) is tight to turn and back-in with trucks and cars parked almost in the road so there is little room to swing the front end. Fortunately the owners of these vehicles were around and volunteered to move the vehicles so we could get in but if they had been away or asleep it would have been an issue. The sites are unlevel (mostly due to the terrain) so you may have a pinched mud flap or a front tire off the ground a little to get your rig level. The campground is on a hill so the overall terrain makes it tight, sloped and not ideal for a campground but workable. The owner said our spot was great but I think that is mostly pride of ownership. Our site should have been more level so the jacks and leveling did not pinch the mud flap. The 30 AMP was too weak midday when many others were running AC. Extra charge to use the 50 AMP. The upper area (sites 28 - 41) are not big rig friendly. There is a steep and curved road to get through this area and you have to gun it to get up with a 40 foot rig. The owner should not put big rigs in this area. The pads are about 25 feet long. The campground was full but there was only a few 40 foot or bigger rigs. If you must camp here the rest of our experience was fine but proceed carefully and have someone watch your rig from behind so you don’t miss something. Drive slow and only enter and exit with your rig in full daylight. We camped at Apostle Islands Area Campground in a Motorhome.

This park is is in a good location for Bayfield and Apostle Islands visits but the park is rather overpriced for what you get. All of the utilities are in good working order but the Wi-Fi a bit weak. We enjoyed being here but will go south to Washburn to stay in a city park for half the price here. The park owner is very friendly and helpful. Our 38 foot motorhome fit well in our site. The lake view from our more expensive site was rather good. We camped at Apostle Islands Area Campground in a Motorhome.

We were in site 16 in this park. Had nice shade trees but since it was quite rainy, we stepped out into a large pool of water. There is a steep hill going down into the park but we had no problem with it. There is a nice grassy area where children can play. The park is in an excellent location to visit the Apostle Islands Golf Course and downtown Bayfield and to take the ferry to Madeline Island. We had no Wi-Fi at our site even though the owner advertises it. My biggest complaint was the restrooms. The toilets were in an outdoor covered area. The showers were pay showers and took $1.50 for 5 minutes. At $32.00 per night, I would expect to get a free shower. We might stay in this park again. Overall Rating:

First let me say that after we got parked and leveled, this park was fine. There is a big field of grass on a rolling hill around which the sites are spaced. The field, along with the playground in it, got a lot of attention from the kids. Our site (#2) was just level enough for our jacks to compensate for. Utilities were fine and the park’s location was very convenient. My mistake was taking the word of the manager that we would have no problem putting our 45” motorhome on the site and not walking to it first. I seriously scratched the side of our rig trying to thread our way between two trees on a sharp turn that was on a steep hill. A unit our size and height simply would not fit without rubbing both sides. I wish that the people who are so blasé about saying “You’ll have no problem” would actually try driving a big-rig in their parks sometime. In short, if you have a smaller RV, you will probably like the park. If you have a big one, don't drive to your site without walking the road (preferably with a tree-trimmer) first! Credit cards are not accepted. We camped at Apostle Islands Area Campground in a Motorhome.

Park is not very nice. Very old and rustic. Sites are cut out of a field and not level. Many set up for very small units and tents. Many sites are hard to back in. Most sites do have lots of shade tree. Cash and checks only. Some cell phone reception. Overpriced for what we got. Nice owners. Sewer could not be hooked up at it was at the rear of the rig. Water and electrical is also in the rear and 10 ft away from the rig. Had to use extension on water and electrical. Simply not laid out properly. We looked at other parks and there isn't anything any nicer in this area: sad. We won't stay again. We camped at Apostle Islands Area Campground in a Fifth Wheel.
