Your typical Wisconsin State Park which does not disappoint. Well taken care of, space between sites and generally some of the best campgrounds I have stayed at. The Ferry ride for a 35 foot tt and four people set us back $220 round trip which was a bit $$$ but worth doing once. The sites were a little on the tighter side but we had no problem getting our rig parked. The beach is the best I have seen in WI minus the water temps (water is really high so not much sand on shore). Next time in that area I think I would stay in Bayfield as the town looks nice and might be more do to on the mainland. Overall a neat place and if you have the opportunity worth checking out. One thing to note there is no dumpstation at the campground, you have to go to the airport to dump and fill or fill from a water fountain at the park. We camped at Big Bay State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Date of Stay: October, 2016 - $29.00
Overall Rating:

Nice campground for tents or RV's with electricity only. All of the sites for RV's are across the road - not on the shore. No lake view. But the stairs and the boardwalk are within easy walking. Just a couple of blocks. Bathrooms, showers look new and well kept, but didn't use them. Sites are small, but there is a ton of distance between sites! Can't hardly see your neighbors with the trees! Loved it! Wood for sale - $5/bundle...pay box on site. Water available at buildings - not at sites. Nearest dump station I think is the Airport on the island. Watch the sunrises, sunsets. No or very limited cell service on most of island - a bit in the campground depending on carrier and full bars in the town. There were about 5-6 TV channels that came in via antenna. Mostly from Duluth...PBS. We camped at Big Bay State Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Ferry ride is expensive. 13.50 per person and our 27" motorhome was 80.00 But that is round trip. Town of La Pointe doesn't have much...few gift shops and a couple of really good restaurants and a museum. Drove the island....very nice! Beach Club fish cakes were great. If you play Pokémon Go, there are several gyms and quite a few rare pokemons in town!

Overall Rating:

We decided on this campground at the last minute. We had been camping on the "mainland" of Wisconsin where temperatures were in the high 80's and 90's we saw the forecast for Madelaine Island was in the 70's, so we called and reserved a spot as they do fill up. Campground is very quiet during the day as most folks venture out to sightsee. We liked it so much, we are now camp hosts at the park! Our site was very shaded, and quite large for out camper, screen tent (low mosquitoes and no stable flies while we were there) and camper awning. Showers and toilets were clean, as were the vault toilets. Trash and recycling were emptied everyday. Short walk to the beach (gorgeous) and a 2+ mile boardwalk that we did in the rain, lots of birds and wild life. Stay to the outer loop if you want maximum privacy. Pros: -Get to take a cool ferry out to the island - They will haul ANY size camper, when we made the trip, we were parked next to a full size semi! -Outer loop sites are indeed private! -No road noise or light pollution! Quiet, and dark. -Many recycling receptacles, even for propane canisters -Outrageously beautiful beaches, with short walks/hikes (~quarter mile or less) to access them -Small grocer, laundromat, coffee shop, souvenir shop, and post office all easily accessible at the ferry landing, I would recommend stocking up on food on the mainland! Cons: -Ferry trips can get expensive; round check https://madferry.com/ -Stowe all foodstuffs, as the raccoons are plentiful. While not aggressive, they will sneak up on you in the dark. -while we had no bugs, I heard some tales of small pets and children getting carried off by the black flies (just kidding) -Some of the sites on outer loop have standing water in woods behind sites, so think skeeters, though we had no problem. We camped at Big Bay State Park in a Tent Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

The park has a cozy little visitor center/park office, with souvenirs, interesting books to check out library-style, and friendly staff. Check out all the back roads too! Walk the cliffs and go to the Beach. If it rains, embrace it, put on a rain suit and walk the boardwalk, super cool! Or stop in the Town of La Pointe Library and a must see is the State Historical Museum

Overall Rating:

This park is on Madeline Island. You will need to take the fairy over. You'll be looking at approx. $130.00 round trip for 2 adults for the fairy ride. This is a nice Wi State Park. Plenty of beautiful views, water so clean it's deceiving how deep it is! Great hiking trails & a wonderful sand beach. The facilities are cleaned twice daily. Like most state parks, the is only electric, but you can fill your camper before getting to your site.

No pump- out at the park, but there is one at the municipal airport on the island.

A truly unique experience for the adventurous type. We camped at Big Bay State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

La Pointe is a quaint artsy town. The is a beach pub, pizza/ice cream parlor, fine dining establishment & hotel pub. Plus, no trip to Madeline Island would be complete without a stop at Tom's Burned Down Cafe. Lots of local fair & plenty of lake trout & whitefish caught daily to enjoy. Visit La Pointe to experience unique art & good food. A trip on the fairy that runs at 30 minute intervals, can bring you to Bayfield with plenty of shops & dining
