You have to know this Park is here because there are no signs along the road. Mounds Park Road appears out of nowhere and, if you don't catch that turn, turning a rig around down the road is almost impossible. So watch carefully. After climbing a hill (mound?), we got to the campground which was pretty full, surprisingly. But there aren't many campgrounds here. We did get a site right next to the bathhouse, #28, but it had another name reserved on it. Back to the ranger station. They forgot to remove the card for folks who never showed up. Back to the site, only to find it was on a severe downhill slant. With no onboard leveling system, we used every board we had and still never really got level. Once finally settled, we really liked the site which came with electric. All sites are woodsy and private. We picked up about 20 over the air TV channels. The bathhouse is big and well maintained. The showers are large with a changing area but no curtain between shower and changing space. The weather radio plays in the bathhouse. The roads are easy to drive through, regardless of rig size, no overhanging branches and no cars forced to park on the road. We didn't use the dump station but there is potable water there to take on, if needed. Overall a nice spot. The only thing I didn't like is we had to buy a state park pass of $11 to enter and then we paid $33 for the night as out of staters. Instate folks pay $23. That's no way to encourage people to come to your state. Not a fan of this practice, WI. That's not how your neighbors treat their guests. We camped at Blue Mound State Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

You can spend time in the state park hiking, seeing the mounds and there is even a swimming pool in season, though it was closed by mid Sept.

We camped here during the week and there was no more than 6-7 other campsites in use. Our site was level and surrounded by lots of foliage and tall trees. The washrooms were well maintained and very clean. The showers were a nice size with a small bench. Which was great to take small children into the shower with you. A nasty storm rolled through and the park staff checked on everyone and were very friendly. The pool is large with a diving board. Also has a kiddie pool about 18 inches deep for the little ones. The downside is you must pay an entry fee to use the pool. We camped at Blue Mound State Park in a Tent Trailer.

The State Park is great, but the campground needs some work. Most of the sites are small and not "Big Rig Friendly". The interior roads are paved and the sites are gravel. The park is right on the Military Ridge State Trail. We camped at Blue Mound State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

This is a heavily used campground being close to Madison. We had some trouble to find a spot for our 32 foot 5th wheel and tow vehicle. The ranger had a funny policy of find your site and then go back and see if it had been reserved. Not far from the Blue Mounds cave which is just ok, but do go see the Mustard Museum in Mt Hoerb, and the Artisian Gallery there. A trip to the Norweigian place is neat too. This campgrounds is a good place for smaller RVs and tents. We camped at Blue Mound State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

This is part of the Wisconsin DNR state park system. They have over 1100 acres on the highest hill in southeastern Wisconsin. The camping itself is not all the way on top of the hill, so don't worry about driving up. The campsites were so far apart and wooded that I couldn't even see the people on either side of us. Because of the trees we had to do a bit of positioning before we found a spot that would allow the slide on one side and the awning on the other, but it worked out. There are 40 foot high lookout towers on the East and West sides of the park and the view are outstanding. They also have a pool and playground areas. If you are staying here be sure to visit Cave of the Mounds a few miles away; they have a very cool tour down into the cave and an area where the kids can pan for gemstones outside. We camped at Blue Mound State Park in a Motorhome.

We absolutely loved this park. The campsites are so surrounded by trees and vegetation that you can barely tell that you are camping next to someone. You could barely tell that the campsites next to you had a campfire. The restrooms were extremely clean even in the busy part of the weekend. We did the junior ranger program with our 5 year old (this is a Wisconsin State Park thing). He is still talking about it months later! We geocached all over the park. We swam in the nice pool and went on a couple of guided hikes. Than there was a lefsa making demonstration in the amphitheater (I'm Norwegian!) yea!! Overall one of our best camping experiences! The park is gorgeous with its 2 lookout towers and many trails. Our only trouble was with the friendly racoons that wanted to steal our food! Site number 6 was absolutely perfect with young kids because the playground was right there next to you! We camped at Blue Mound State Park in a Tent.
