Overall Rating:

This is a small campground with eight water and electric only (no sewer hook ups) pull-thru RV sites and some primitive tent sites. There are no showers or restrooms (there are two pit toilets). There is a dump station near the entrance but when exiting the park, it is located on the opposite side with no room to turn around. Our site was mostly level and nice and long. The first turn into the park is sharp but we are a 40' fifth wheel; shorter RV's would not have any problem. This is a great base camp for exploring the Apostle Islands area. We will definitely return if we are in the area. We camped at South Shore Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Meyers Beach, part of the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore is approximately a mile down the road - great for kayaking and hiking. Cornucopia is a quaint little village with a good restaurant and a historic general store.

We left a day early, what does that say. Campground has potential but was not taken care of. Grass had not been mowed which made the bugs worse. Sites are close together. We camped at South Shore Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Bring plenty of bug spray! This is a very rustic campground but does have large pull through spots for big rigs. The price is good but no amenities. There are pit toilets but no showers, just water and electric. We knew this going in and we are self contained so can manage for several days which was fine. We never saw the owners and there is no office. However, calls and emails prior to arriving were answered in a timely manner. Our site was marked as we had a reservation and we were easily able to locate it. It was a quiet campground with minimal noise from the road during the day and overnight extremely quiet. It's about a 30 minute drive to Bayfield on Hwy 13 which is the only major town out this way. Cornucopia was down the road but not much there except a general store, restaurant, beach and a few shops. But it was good to have it that close by. Aside from the bugs being a bit much, our stay was good here. We camped at South Shore Campground in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

We spent six nights here and it was perfect for what we wanted: easy access to Bayfield and the surrounding area, without paying Bayfield prices! This is a small campground just off the main road, which isn't heavily trafficked during the day and we hardly heard any road noise at night. There is a barrier of trees all around the campground so we didn't even think about traffic. The campground is run - very smartly - by a young couple. Their website is easy to navigate. When I left a voicemail and sent an email inquiry, both were responded to promptly. No need to check in - upon arrival you'll find a blue slip with your name at your site. We gave a credit card to hold the space and dropped a check in payment box when we arrived. Firewood is available and you pay on the honor system. There are long drop toilets, no showers, no sewer. We're self contained, so none of that was a problem for us. There are picnic tables and fire pits at each site. No cable but who has time to watch TV when you're in this area anyway? We spent a day hiking Lost Creek Trail and the Meyers Beach sea cave trail, both trailheads were just a few minutes drive from the campground. Bayfield is about 20 minutes away - we went one day just to poke around, and another day to catch the Madeline Island ferry. It's a nice easy drive from the campground. Our site was gravel that was well compacted, with a little grass growing over it. The rest of our site (and all the others) was grass. We had rain a couple days and thought our rig might settle in a little, but it didn't. Cornucopia is an old fishing village, and there's a small marina, an old main street with a general store, café, post office, etc. We picked up a couple necessities at the general store and were surprised they didn't price gouge like they could - given the area options. Nice easy stay, we would definitely recommend. We camped at South Shore Campground in a Motorhome.
