We stayed here in a 43' Class A Sept 22, 2018. I wasn't sure about the campground when I first arrived because it was on top of a large hill, but when we got to our site it was GREAT. The site wasn't perfectly level but with a few blocks it was good. The campground is maintained well and has enough trees to provide shade without too many to be in the way of pulling into your site. The bath house could use a remodel, but was clean. The main reason I gave it a 10, was what happened when we got there. Day 1 of a 2 week trip...we blew a transmission hose Saturday morning. It was either go sit in a Walmart parking lot until Monday or limp to a campground and wait until Monday for a tow to a transmission shop in Madison. We chose Tom's Campground - at least we could enjoy a camp fire for a couple of days while we waited for the shop to open. When we got to Tom's. The owner greeted us and we said we needed a site that a big tow truck could get to. He asked why and we told him we had a bad leak in a transmission line. I showed him a video of the leak and he said he could fix that and would be up later that evening. At about 8pm, he brought his nephew with him and they got under the RV removed the failed hose, took it back to their shop at the farm, built a brand new hose, came back and installed it in about an hour. Now we are back in business, we will not lose a couple of days in a shop somewhere. It was AMAZING!! Talk about a full service Campground. SW Wisconsin is a great area to visit. lots to see and do. Of course we will stay at Tom's Campground. We camped at Tom's Campground in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Grab one of the "Explore Hidden Valleys of Southwest Wisconsin" magazine when you arrive...it has tons of info. Also make sure to visit the "Cave of the Mounds" for a great cave tour...it's worth your time.

When we travel in our RV, we don't really want a lot of bells and whistles. We don't use the pool or other amenities. We like it clean, quiet and peaceful--a great description of Tom's. We were situated at the top of a hill, and woke each morning to singing birds and the smell of newly mown grass. The only reason I didn't give Tom's 10 stars is that it doesn't have sewer connections, and we had to use the dump station when we left. We camped at Tom's Campground in a Motorhome.

Great and informative owners who know the area well. Only one site with 50 amp service. No sewer on site and no dump station in camp. Great place for a short visit. We camped at Tom's Campground in a Motorhome.

The owner suggested, if approaching from the south (Dubuque), take the County Road BB exit, not County Road Y as shown on Google maps. Country Road Y isn't bad but, by taking BB, you stay on the interstate longer which is a nicer road and you're practically at Tom's Campground when you reach the end of BB. Upon arrival, a staff member welcomed us to the park. He takes care of the park, is friendly, and is a wealth of information. We loved all the green space at this park and the views were great. We were on the hill, where the 50 amp sites are located, and it was peaceful and relaxing. There are eight 50 amp sites on the hill. It would be very close quarters if all of those sites were full. The 50 amp sites are designed so that the utilities are centered between two RVs. One RV pulls in facing one direction and the neighboring RV faces the opposite direction. There are a lot of 30 amp sites too, which appeared to be hard packed dirt and/or grass, and tent sites. The interior roads are asphalt. The 50 amp sites are on a combination of hard packed dirt/gravel/grass. We needed blocks to level. Water and electric hookups were conveniently placed. There is no sewer at the sites, but there is a dump station on the premises. There are lots of mature trees. Some did provide shade, but there weren't any that interfered with the sites. There is a picnic table at each site, and one fire pit for each two sites. Trash and recycle bins were nearby. There were about 25 OTA channels. There is park wifi that currently works if you're in one of the hill sites, but the owner is working on getting wifi to the other areas of the park. Restrooms/showers were dated, but clean. The showers cost 25 cents for about 7-8 minutes. We would return to this park if passing through the area. We camped at Tom's Campground in a Motorhome.

We don't usually stay in private campgrounds, preferring COE parks or State CGs, but were traveling in the area and none was available. Tom's CG is nice as far as a stopover goes, but not for a "camping" experience. It is located in pretty, hilly farm land. Most campers seem like locals there for get-togethers. Utilities were fine and the camp hosts/owners were helpful. Bathrooms were old but clean. The bathrooms really need to be updated. The site we were in, high on a hill above most of the campground was flat and fairly level, although they were very close together. Fortunately, the host skipped spaces when assigning spots. However, we saw several sites that were terraced into a slope that would be considered bad - hard to back into and narrow, with no apron beside the camper at all. If you don't have reservations for a specific site, try to check in as early in the day as possible. We saw those sites assigned late in the day. I will stay there again if we are traveling in the area, but not for a camping experience. The dump station was adequate. We camped at Tom's Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Lots of interesting things to do in the area. If you are an architect, or have an interest in American architecture, Frank Lloyd Wright's Taliesin, home and museum, is about 20 miles away from Tom's CG, although the tours there are expensive. If you want something interesting to most everyone, check out the House on the Rock, also about 20 miles away. Leave at least half a day for that if not longer. It is more reasonably priced. There are also lots of cheese shops and wineries in the area.

Located about 6 miles from the town of Dodgeville. Beautiful park-like setting amidst the corn fields. Campground was almost full on the weekend but cleared out by Monday. Sites were gravel and ok for a few nights. If you have satellite make sure you ask for a site that is open to the sky. Some sites are level and others are not. Bathrooms are in need of cleaning and updating. No sewer but dump station is easily accessible. There are not many campgrounds in the area. We will stay here again. We camped at Tom's Campground in a Motorhome.

Very nice quiet park set on a hillside out in the country. No cell service no Internet, just sit back read a book and or look at the beautiful countryside. Owner very nice old guy keeps a real clean campground. This is a place to relax with no frills. It was built when RVs were small, with no slides, so the lots are small but he only uses half the lots. Nice place to get together with friends and relax. We camped at Tom's Campground in a Motorhome.

A bit out of the way but a very quiet site. No road noise or trains. Bathrooms could use some work and were a bit dirty in the evening. The folks who run the place are very friendly and look like they've been doing it for years. Grass covered gravel sites cut into a slope. Do not be sloppy in your driving and watch the turn radius of your toad. No cable or Wi-Fi but Verizon MiFi worked but it was a bit slow. The park is situated on top of a hill and has nice views. Lots of grass and the sites are not right on top of one another. We camped at Tom's Campground in a Motorhome.

Very basic, clean campground. Electric and water only. No sewer, cable TV or Wi-Fi. Payment with cash only. A little out of the way, but not much else available in this area. Plenty of big shade trees and a nice view of the rolling hills. Good place for overnight. We camped at Tom's Campground in a Motorhome.
