Nice park, lots of trees. Not big rig friendly. Narrow Roads, low hanging limbs, trees close to roads, tight turns. I have a 38' fifth wheel and according to the website information it seems big rig friendly. I even called the office to make sure but the woman on the phone looked online and told me what I already knew. She apparently had never been out to the park. I found out it was not big rig friendly. Sites are big enough IF you can get in them. I would not return. To bad, it's a nice park on a nice lake at a good price. They have a 2 night minimum stay. Would have rated it higher if it were big rig accessible. Make sure to take on water at the "A frame", it's at the dump station a few miles before the campground. No spigots in the campground so you have to go all the way back to the dump station. - Coley
Aug 2008 - $16.00
This is an unusually messy park. We had to search to find someone to check us in. We finally found someone in the attached bar. This is a very dirty park. It is like a bad State park gone really bad. We will never stay here again. - Shadoe
Jul 2007 - $27.00
This place has all the amenities, but is in a generally run down condition. Roadways were poorly maintained with many bumps and potholes. It was a weekend and vehicles were everywhere, making it difficult to traverse to/from our site. Rest rooms and laundry facilities were dirty and in poor shape. Hookups were not well marked and disorganized and we found that we were overlapping other peoples' cables and hoses to get to one that was accessible. We never did find a sewer hookup. We had problems with consistent power output. - Sunny5
Sep 2018 - $23.00
Camped Labor Day weekend without a reservation. Plenty of open sites. Called twice and staff was helpful in providing availability and then verbal directions into the park. We have a 35' 5th Wheel and easily backed into space 6, a mostly level site. 30 amp electric at site. Water spigot for refilling our tank located nearby, with dump station available in the park. Clean, quiet campground, with secluded feeling in the forest. Enjoyed the close proximity of bicycle trails along the river. All shopping is close by. - Janet Reitz
Aug 2018 - $23.00
Very nice "urban" campground. Our site backed up to the park's public areas. Site was shaded, grass and plenty of space. The bathrooms had keypads and required a code to enter. Our site was electric, filled our water tank as we entered the park. We enjoyed our stay here while we explored the area. - AlreadyGone
Jun 2017 - $20.00
Good experience. The. Ampground is convenient to shopping and restaurants. The sites are mostly shaded. Many but not all sites are big rig friendly. The dump station is a bit dofficult to access given metal posts and trees; made it with our 40' mh but not sure about anything bigger. The water supply is on the same lane as the dump station, near the end of that lane. The bathroom codes are currently 415 for men and 514 for women. Good reception for broadcast tv and for Verizon cell service. We found it to be very quiet over our 4 day stay. Sites were available at all times including the weekend. Staffing is basically non-existent; Wausau police do patrol the park. - Pktva
Jul 2017 - $15.00
Beautiful park, lots of trees, quiet, well maintained. One drawback was water spigots were only on certain sites and we did not have enough hose to reach the one next to us. Check out which one that has the water on site first. We played pickleball there. - we're rollin
Oct 2016 - $18.00
First, the good: For $18 we got a large site with full hookup. This park offers a very good value. Now the bad: Bathrooms and showers were very smelly, filled with mosquitos and other insects. My husband said there was a decaying frog body in the urinal. In addition, there are several factories to the west of the park that are noisy all night.
If a person needed to go to Marshfield for medical needs, this would be a handy place to stay. - Organic1
Sep 2016 - $15.00
This park is truly a hidden secret. LG sites, most have electric and water. Some have sewer, if not 2.00 for dump station. Very clean and well maintained. - Msneuby
Aug 2018 - $46.00
Old park that needs a lot of attention. Sites are small, tight and not level. Roads and sites are mostly dirt - dusty when dry and muddy when wet. Our site had the sewer drainage going up hill. Mostly full time residents. Not worth the cost. - 69 scotty
Jun 2018 - $41.00
Reservations were confirmed that our 30' travel trailer would fit no problem. Had to shuffle with two other campers to accommodate us. Absolutely no help from staff as they watched us try to move into sites. Then was told you are parked wrong after we set up. Has a boat landing but no trailer parking, boat can only tie up for 15 min. Or purchase $20 daily slip. No overflow parking for guests. You are required to purchase a site for parking your cars. Staff watches you very close and lets you know about every picky thing. The lady at the store/owner is extremely rude and obnoxious. They will not listen to you on complaints...Only that's how it is. Website is very deceiving. Should have listened to reviews online but love the area. Never to return, social media is your friend. - maddydog
Sep 2017 - $38.00
In our cross-country travels, this is the worse park we have stayed in. Do yourself a favor and stay away. When we made reservations, we were assured that our 42' rig and tow would fit easily. We asked about trees and were told "no problem". It was very difficult to get to the assigned space without damaging the coach. It required some "off roading" through other spaces in order to avoid low branches. No help from staff. Couldn't connect to water because it was very rusty water and the spigot was in bad shape. No sewer hookup. Spaces are small and the park is unkempt. Park is filled with trailers and 5th wheels that are junky and look abandoned. The woman in the office was unhelpful and somewhat rude. - Tmm1A
Jul 2016 - $44.00
This is a beautiful State Park. The $44 fee included out-of-state visitor fee of $11. This is really camping with heavy woods and campfires. We had 30 electric only for this price. Should have stayed longer. - W Davidson
Jun 2016 - $28.00
We were concerned about being able to fit and called the night before and were told that 42' RV's (we're 38') have been here, so we were ok. When we arrived the ranger was concerned that our rv wouldn't fit, so now we were concerned again. Ended up, we had no problem getting into our spot, and there were several spots we would have been comfortable in. The road to the campground was tighter than the campground road, so no need to worry once you arrive at the campground.
The sites are hard packed dirt, with lots of space between them and lots of trees overhead, no satellite reception here. Our site was pretty muddy (not the kind you get stuck in, just the kind you track around), since they there had been a lot of rain recently and the mosquitos were pretty bad because of the moisture. Our site was relatively level, but many others weren't.
The park itself is quite nice with lots of hiking trails and the lake for swimming and fishing. We enjoyed exploring the park, but were limited in what we wanted to do because of rain and bugs. Still, it's a nice park and campground and I would return, if in the area. - Uno Mas
Jul 2014 - $24.00
The park is about 10 miles off of Hwy 51. You will go through Merrill and watch your speed (mostly 25mph). Definitely a speed-trap town. The park has a very large station for registration/check-in. Staff was friendly. Roads are very narrow with a lot of low hanging limbs. I would not attempt with a large motorhome. The main road in is very narrow with large trees on both sides. Not a good place for two large rigs to meet. Campground sites are dirt/sand with a picnic table and a fire ring. They are somewhat level. Will have difficulty backing large rigs into some sites. Again, watch for low hanging limbs. Electric at site. Water stations scattered around campground. Dump station on the way out. Bathroom/showers are nasty. Showers are very grubby and not sanitary. Looks like they have not been cleaned all summer. There are two showers in men’s side for the entire campground. ATT phone reception is spotty. Verizon is better. Satellite signal practically impossible due to heavy forest cover. Campground is very busy throughout the summer. Almost everyone is local folks and they love to burn wood. Expect LOTS of smoke day and night. The State of Wisconsin requires all vehicles entering state parks to purchase a park pass. For non-residents, it is $10 per day or $35 annually. This fee is NOT included in your camping fee. I will not stay here again. - Alaska Jim
Sep 2012 - $24.00
Sites were grassy with just a few 50 amp sites. Sites were designed with horse trailers in mind. Lots of activity the weekend we were there. Price was for more than 30 amp power. Need good pads to keep from sinking into the ground. Most sites not very level front to back. - jmlsrpc
Aug 2012 - $19.00
The park is close to town. The sites with shade are very uneven and just soft grass. I had to re-level the trailer due to sinking stabilizers. Showers were available, but there was no hot water after the first day. Even though it was close to town, probably would not stay here again. - ETX
May 2012 - $19.00
We needed an overnight spot and were pleased to find this easily located fairground in Marshfield with water & electric & an inexpensive pull thru site on grass (but level enough that we didn't have to use jacks). Although under a large tree we still were able to use get TV reception via satellite and local antenna. We also saw non-grassy, non-treed sites on gravel and along the sides of fairgrounds roads. There was a large sign upon entry with fee and other campground info. We didn't use the toilets or showers, and arrived after the office closed. We didn't see a registration form anywhere, so just put cash into an envelope, with our info, and put it into the office door slot. The next morning was the beginning of Dairyfest, with a huge Mayor's Breakfast for the community held there. What a treat! Along with live music and giveaways, $5 bought us scrambled eggs, muffins, cereal, milk, cheese, coffee (and free ceramic cup), juice AND YES, ice cream with strawberry preserves. Later we visited Clyde Wynia's Jurassic Park metal sculpture gardens--a free MUST SEE destination for all! - KUhoopsNut
May 2015 - $15.00
We stayed here overnight to take advantage of the adjoining bike trail. A very nice city park especially considering the camping rate was only $15. Just as nice as many places we've stayed at that were double the cost. The sites were level and paved and some of the sites are along the riverfront. Very pretty. There are clean bathrooms but no showers. There is a city swimming pool in the park but it was still closed for the season. We were here mainly to use the very nice bike trails and plan on returning. - jseugene
Jul 2014 - $15.00
This is a basic park. The sites are all paved, and each has a picnic table and a trash can. Some sites have 30 amp and some have 30/50 amp. The sites on the river side have the electric and water on the wrong side of the RV (passenger side when backing in); the sites on the opposite side of the road have the electric and water on the correct side. There are restrooms near the city pool, but no showers. There are showers in the city pool building, but there is a charge of $2.50 for kids, $3.00 for adults to use the pool/showers. There is a free dump station about 1 mile away at the city treatment plant. Park was quiet. Nice place to stay for an overnight. - sendthefire
Jun 2008 - $15.00
This is a beautiful city park on the Black River and Medford Mill Pond. Bike and walking trail comes through the park and connects with a 26 mile Rail/Trail good for hiking and biking. There is a municipal swimming pool in the park, as well as other recreational facilities. This is a great find ... try it ... you'll like it. - Bob & Bonnie
