Blackhawk Lake Recreation Area is a public run facility, so expectations are somewhat different than a private campground or resort. I knew in advance there would be no full hook-ups, just electric and only 30 amp. I knew there would be no WiFi or cable TV, so I did not score them down for those lost features. This park was designed primarily for tent camping or trailers. Large motorhomes will have limited sites to choose from. When we checked in, we were told that the site that had been reserved for us might not be what we want. So, a park worker and I drove around the park looking at available sites so I was able to pick one that was suitable. I was very pleased with the selection. The park has asphalt interior roads and gravel pads. The park is quite hilly, and the degree of pad levelness is variable. Ours was fine. The sites are huge, but the pads are not much wider than a motorhome. It is a very scenic area with rolling hills and mounds. I chose Blackhawk Lake because of its proximity to an event in nearby Muscoda. I was very happy with Blackhawk Lake and will definitely return. We camped at Blackhawk Lake Recreation Area in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

The third weekend in May is the Morel Mushroom Festival in Muscoda. There are a couple local wineries that we enjoyed.

We camped in a group electric site with a truck camper, a pop up and a travel trailer, along with 8 tents. Our site was much smaller than expected, not at all level. The group site area is far away from the rest of the camping area. It has one toilet house that has limited facilities (one toilet for the men and two for the women), however, the staff kept them clean. We took a ride around the campground and it seemed that the single sites were mostly nicer (spacious and level) than the group sites. Nice area overall, especially for people who like to fish, as well as camp. I would stay again, but in a single site. We camped at Blackhawk Lake Recreation Area in a Truck Camper.

We have stayed at Blackhawk Lake numerous times in the past years. It is a very nice, quiet, family oriented campground. If you are looking for a pool, gameroom, and structured activities - this is not your campground. If you are looking for a quiet, friendly place in the middle of nowhere with a lake for boating, swimming (nice beach) and fishing then this is your campground. The sites are open but shady, and huge - there aren't too many sites you couldn't put 2 units on if you wanted. Very well patrolled and kept neat. Picnic areas and snack bar at the beach as well. Usually booked early in the year and if you go with any frequency you may see the same people. No seasonal sites. Most sites are very easy to level on. We camped at Blackhawk Lake Recreation Area in a Travel Trailer.
