This campground was IMMACULATE. You can certainly tell the owners take pride in their campground and service. Very friendly and helpful staff. Our site was quiet and in the shade. We needed to do laundry so the owners put us up near the laundry and bathrooms. The bathrooms are immaculate even tho older. There was not one single cobweb to be found in the bathroom or shower area. The laundry room was very clean--$2 for wash and $1.25 to dry. This campground would be wonderful for families with children. There was plenty for them to do. Swimming pool, swim pond with large floats, jumping pillows, etc. The newer area doesn't offer much shade as the trees haven't matured in that area yet. Our site had plenty of mature shade trees. We thoroughly enjoyed our ice cream at the creamery the owners recommended just down the street. I would definitely stay here again and we don't have children. - gasolinebutt

We really enjoyed our stay at this campground. It was a short drive off the freeway on a good road and a quite place over night. The access roads in the park were nice and wide for our big rig and we had a nice view of the small lake, plus it was open so we could get satellite. They seem to have sites for everyone from wooded to open to small and long. It was a quiet campground, although we were there during the week and expect it was much busier on the weekends with a lot of activities for kids. The owners are extremely friendly and helpful and you can tell that they want to run a good campground by the way they keep it up and try to do all they can to make your stay a good one. It is a little pricey, but we would without a doubt come back here as it was very comfortable. - Danni
Sep 2017 - $56.00
This park has no cable tv, wifi is not strong. Gravel sites mostly level. Park is crowded and very expensive. Owner was nice but insisted the rates were reasonable for how nice the park was. I am a full time traveler and never paid over $40 throughout most of the U.S. This park is no better then other parks for a lot less. This park is for the local weekenders. It appears to be geared toward kids and vacationers. Full timers stay away. Traveled roads and tight turns between trees. - Mike Mac
Aug 2018 - $24.00
Very nice park, still a bit hard to find, needs better signage. Park has been upgraded and has 30/50 amp power, at least ours did. Well kept and the camp hosts and crew were great. Stayed 4 nights while visiting family. Our site was the park handicap site, asphalt, but a bit unlevel. Other sites up the hill were closer together and looked like level dirt/grass/gravel. Free dump station for registered campers. Would stay again. - Nevada Nick
Sep 2012 - $18.00
An out of the way park, signage to it not very good, but otherwise a pleasant surprise. Hiking trails have a view of the Horicon Marsh which is a must place to go to. Only down side is the 20 amp sites. Would stop here again without a doubt. - stetwood
Jul 2012 - $18.00
We absolutely love this campground. The sites we had were nicely wooded and the play area was across the camp road. We had our family reunion here and the facilities were very nice and well kept. The bathrooms and showers were very clean, caretakers were very friendly and made sure guests were following rules. The trails are intriguing and show off beautiful scenery. We have stayed here 3 times and will continue to return. - cfamrace49

This place is great in a pinch. We stayed here on Labor Day weekend, as we could find nothing else. Basically, you are camping in a parking lot with a tiny bit of grass. It worked in a bind, but, no amenities outside of basic utilities. NOTE: Basically, their website and others say that you can check in at night and on weekend, via a drop box. But, this has changed. If you don't get there by 3'ish, you are SOL. In their defense, they are working on an automatic system. But, during out visit, we saw numerous folks pull in and leave, after discovering a locked utility box. - Legends Of America
Sep 2009 - $20.00
It's not a campground. Forget the amenities. In late Sept., even the bathrooms were locked. There are two rows of grassy and dirt pads out in an open field/parking lot. Electrical power is centrally located with two 50A plug ins, several 30A, the rest are 15A. If you don't get one of the central spaces, bring a real long power cord or you won't reach. Water is available at all sites. The odd thing here is the sewer. Someone with a travel trailer or 5th wheel whose black valves are on the back corner would not have a problem. If you are in a Diesel Pusher, with drains in the middle, forget dumping you tanks. On both rows the sewer intakes are on high ground. The slope of the pad puts your RV's sewer drain many inches lower than the parks sewer inlet. Do-do doesn't run up hill. The only thing this place has going for it is it's right in Fond Du Lac. Downtown is walking distance away. (note that the "other" Fond Du Lac listing on RV Park reviews is dislocated. It is actually several miles south of town). - whizbang
Jun 2009 - $18.00
We have been to Mauthe Lake several times. Wonderful state park. Staff is helpful and friendly. Facilities are clean with plenty of hot water. Lake is fun and clean. It is a very nice campground with nice playground, beach., fishing pier, little store, beautiful trail around the lake. Milwaukee river flows through Mauthe Lake. Our kids, 6,4, and 1 love this place. The campground is nice, clean and very quiet. The campsite itself is very wooded and secluded. Would come back in a second! - basiamil
Sep 2018 - $35.00
I was told by a co-worker that he had stayed here. He said it was a nice campground in a nice area. The only issue he had was with the seasonal campers getting kind of rowdy around the pool area at night. I thought that shouldn't affect us because I didn't plan on hanging around the pool area. Well the only bathrooms are by the pool. When I found this out, I still wasn't overly concerned because I thought I can stand to be around some noise while at the restroom. Well the noise from the recreation building by the pool area carried quite a ways. I still thought I can deal with it, after all quiet time is at midnight. The music was still playing well after 12:00, and what was worse is the multitude of rude people; after they left the party and were presumably going back to their campsites, they were talking loud and sometimes even shouting. If a party atmosphere is what you are looking for, then stay here. If you are a piece-loving, nature-loving camper, then stay away. I know I will. - mcknigj
Jul 2011 - $30.00
This campground was nice for the most part. We camped here with our 2 kids. The park has 40 year old equipment and some of the toys were fixed with duct tape. The site we had was nicely shaded, but not very level. Our septic did not work we wanted a site with w/e/s but we did not get that we got w/e. The owner gave us the rate for w/e due to the problem. It was supposed to be fixed on the Monday. But our pipe was still having problems. So when we got back to the site at 9pm we tried to dump and it did not work. My husband went to the owners home and asked him kindly what he was going to do about it because ours was full. He got the BIGGEST attitude and then came to empty us. So the owner was not very kind. He also came on Monday to open the septic tank cover to get pumped and left it opened. Mind you the tank was right in front of our site and the neighbor and us all have kids. He did not tell anyone that he did that. My husband said that the bathrooms were old and smelly. Our site was not mowed. We were also not told about the rules and garbage pick-up. It's an OK place to stay over all the pool was really nice and heated. - kathymcq
Aug 2009 - $32.00
Very quiet, rustic campground where most of the campers are seasonal. Friendly, courteous staff. Campground is a bit hilly and the narrow gravel roads have some tight curves. Sites are mostly dirt; lots of tall trees, felt like camping in the woods. I had to use 3 boards to level my camper. Electricity was 113-117 volts without a load, but dropped to 105 with the water heater and microwave on together. Wi-Fi is an additional $2 per day. Pool looked sparkling clean. Restrooms at the office are reasonably clean, but it was difficult to get in and out of stalls due to limited space between door and toilet (I weigh 150). The shower stalls are outside next to the pool in the open air, not practical for inclement weather. The dump station is on a slight hill and tight curve. I do not recommend this CG for a big rig or anything longer than a 24-foot travel trailer. - Digital Dori
Jun 2017 - $34.00
No laundry on site, payment quoted on phone was then expected to be cash, more if by card. No late arrival allowed, no attempt to accommodate needs of camping arrival. Reservationist did not speak clear English. Steep, gravel entry drive: watch out for deer. Rained and concerned branches could have hit RV. Trees untrimmed.
No trash cans throughout park. Only 1 dumpster which is marked for food only specific type of trash. You're told to take your trash out with you.
Poorly lit indoor pool with no life guard. No pool safety items. Pay showers, which were not the cleanest. Grounds are not well maintained, grass looks like rarely mowed. Lots of mosquitos. Gravel roads. Picnic tables were old. I will never stay here again or recommend. - Jane77
Jun 2017 - $34.00
We have been camping at The Playful Goose for 3 years and have always found the owners to be very accommodating. We have our favorite site and found it by taking our time reviewing the website map and dates that accommodate our trips.
The sites are large, not on top of each other. The grounds and parking pads are maintained well including regular cleaning of the fire pits. The beautiful marsh setting is peaceful and fun for all with a park nearby. Paddle boats, canoes, etc are available for rent at the campground. The indoor pool is great for both kids and adults. The restrooms and showers are clean and if there is anything you need the owners are there to assist.
Thank you! - RCKK
Jun 2017 - $39.00
Excellent campground for Kayaking .. we had a fantastic time camping and kayaking this past weekend. We are looking forward to our next visit. Campsite good size - port a potty clean - fire wood good price 4x4 $40. - DebbieLamb
Aug 2013 - $32.00
This was our first time camping with our RV and we didn't have a problem getting a site. We chose one on the lake which was perfect. Our one complaint is that 3 ladies were camping next to us that they were very loud and partying until 4 a.m. The pool is a lake which we could see the kids and adults loved. The bar (Monkey Business) was nice and good drink specials. We didn't eat at the snack shop but plan on trying that next time. Meet a very nice seasonal camper and we will be returning next year for sure. - LPalm
Sep 2010 - $28.00
We camped here Labor Day weekend with a last minute reservation. They just had a cancellation and we were able to get a peninsula site on the lake and it was really nice. I agree with the other post that the campground is made up of a lot of seasonal sites who could use a good clean up. Water was accessible at the back of the site but electric was at the front and on the curb side so we had the cord running across the site. We love the Kettle Moraine area and will be back. Campground was quiet and campers were respectful, except for one family who would not clean up after their dog. Loved that the campsites were semi-private with trees and bushes between most of the campsites! Peninsula would be really hard to navigate with anything bigger than 25 feet. Had a nice bar and a separate grill. - weasel007
Aug 2006 - $22.00
We stayed here for only one night as a stop over on a day trip. We found the campground to be clean and relatively quiet. However, with 125 seasonal sites this seemed to be more of a lake community than a campground. Many of the seasonal units were quite old, but very well maintained. You can tell that they are used often. The only real complaint we had is that the sites for campers were somewhat small, and the electrical hook-ups were between sites on main drive, and you needed a long extension to reach them. Also, the water hook-ups were on the wrong side which was a pain. The access road to the camper sites was tight someone in a large trailer or motor home would have difficulty on this road. The lake was nice, employees were accommodating and the play ground area was pretty nice. There is a bar and snack bar on the grounds as well. - rita
Jul 2016 - $27.00
First be aware that whether you make reservation on line or just show up at park there is a $5.00 reservation fee. Also there is a huge amount of bugs. Most spaces are shaded and many are spacious. Water only and the dump station fill up is on way into cammpground so to use after stay you have to drive all around loop. Crowed on week ends and not so much during the week. Not really terrible place but I will not use again if I can help it. - arcticfox
Dec 2015 - $22.00
Stayed here while visiting friends in the area. The sites are electric only with water and dump site by entrance. The sites are set in a wooded area. There is a bathroom/shower house also at the entrance. The adjacent park has group picnic areas with a reserve able shelter for parties. A swimming pool, walking trails and playground are close by. - TexasRVer
Aug 2012 - $22.00
This is a nice county park, which per the campground host, typically has open sites on weekends. It has an updated shower/restroom building and paved interior roads. Several sites would accommodate big rigs, but the numerous trees would require cautious entry. The wooded campsites limit any satellite use. Limited recreational activities in the area cause the overall rating to fall short of excellent. - mdtandem
Aug 2018 - $34.00
Lovely, well-maintained park. The owners are very friendly and responsive to requests. No issues getting our 42' RV into our site. The main roads are tightly-packed gravel with no potholes. Tons for kids to do at this park. We would definitely return. Hook-ups were easy. Water has high iron content. Lots of walking trails, pond for swimming. - BnK_RVLife
Aug 2018 - $36.00
Our advice, unless you just need a place to park your camper, and not do anything else, stay away from this place. We paid $36 per night but then had to pay for the electric we used. At that rate, I would not expect to be billed separately for electric. Office folks are great, and friendly but the rules are too inflexible. Which part of insane rules enforcement should I quote. Visitors who wanted to pick us up for dinner were told they had to pay $5 to be allowed back. After they paid they were told they could park in the lot by the office and call us to pick them up, but could not drive back to pick us up. Only 1 car allowed on a site, but seasonal folks had up to 4. The WiFi was useless, even with a WiFi Ranger booster we couldn't stay connected. When our friends came to see our new motorhome, we had to go up front and pick them up because they could not drive back, even after paying. Our neighbor had his daughter, her husband and 2 grandchildren and was told they had to leave because they only allow 2 visitors to a site. Seem to forget that rule on the weekend when seasonal folks showed up with large groups. While the office folks were nice when I called to reserve a site, it really became interesting once I paid. I should have realized when they gave me a car tag and I said I'd set it on the dash because the mirror won't allow a tag to fit. Immediately they put tape on the tag and said "NO, you have to have it in the window." Really? Need to disconnect your toad? Go to the "designated area", disconnect call the office and wait for them to lead you to your site. It is a shame because the park is well located, but management needs a course in customer service and some reasonable rules. I'm all for rules to keep a site nice, lower noise levels, and such, but in our over 45 years of camping I've never experienced the negativity of this park, especially from a couple that truly seems to friendly. - Billaj
Aug 2018 - $46.00
This campground is easy to get to just off a state highway outside of West Bend. Upon check in the staff was friendly and helpful. We were given a map of the campground, and directions to our site, and a list of park rules. The roads are gravel but not full of holes. The grounds are well maintained and the grass mowed. Our site was grass and easy to back into. It was off level, side to side, but not enough that our auto leveling wouldn't work. The electric and sewer were well placed but the water was at the very back of the site so needed two 25ft hoses. The sites are close together with grass between sites. The neighbors fire pit seemed kind of close to our site and they are not movable. I did not use the restrooms or showers while there. Several past reviews have been harsh because of the rules. To us the rules did not seem extensive or excessive. It's nice to go to a campground and not have to worry about rowdy neighbors, especially since the sites are close together. There is a beach and picnic area that appeared clean and well maintained though we didn't use the area. If we are ever in the area we would definitely stay here again. - Blu1e
