We found this on Good Sam, otherwise didn't know it even existed. Had a nice stay with quite a few things in the area to see. Lots fit our 45' motorhome and vehicle well. Area was mowed but appeared to have never been trimmed around edges, under trees & shrubs or around RV hook-up areas. You have to get used to the numerous trains passing by a few blocks over all day and night. Because of family in the area we will be back. We camped at Nelson's Landing RV Park in a Motorhome.

This is a very nice park with great views of the bluffs. The sites are well maintained with plenty of personal space (no fencing, just open) around. - if you have a motorcycle or bicycle, this is an ideal basecamp.

We're a traveling couple with home bases in MN and SoCal and have experienced many different parks.

A few items to note:

- Trash is picked up daily, just leave at the front of your site in the morning.

- The office is a cross highway 35 in the Nelson Creamery. While your there, you should expect to spend some time sitting on the porch for some cheese, meats, wine and beer!

- Our only negative comment is the train tracks are very close to the site. They run about every 45 mins to an hour starting around 9pm. They blow their horns when running through the town and there isn't much to baffle the noise between the park and the tracks.

- Not every site has a picnic table.

- Our site (#2) was mostly level.

We would definitely stay here again in spite of the trains. We camped at Nelson's Landing RV Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

The town of Nelson is small and has a popular scenic road running through it.

We ride our bicycles across the bridge to Wabasha, MN (about 3 miles one way) and visited a Slippery's - home of the Grumpy Old Men something or other - nice place right on the Mississippi.

We loved this area and we loved this park. It's like camping in a big meadow underneath the scenic bluffs. The bathhouse is clean and the laundry has new high capacity machines that don't mangle your clothes. There's not an office on site so you check in at Nelson's Creamery across the street. Manager lady was wonderful and responded quickly to any questions we had. I noticed that one reviewer noted there are no trash receptacles and that's because you just place your trash outside and they pick it up. The only downside is the noise of the frequent trains, but after a few days we didn't notice them anymore. It's a puzzle to me why this place isn't filled to capacity all the time. The rate we paid reflects the monthly rate.

Note: Don't follow your GPS. Coming from Wabasha, turn right at the second street after the railroad tracks. Coming from Pepin, turn left at Top Hat Bar. We camped at Nelson's Landing RV Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

There are a surprising number of good restaurants in this area, 3 within walking distance of the park. Nelson's Creamery has good soups, salads and sandwiches, a nice selection of cheese, deli and picnic items and a wine bar with great ambiance. And, of course, ice cream. If you go for lunch try to get there before 12 to beat the crowd. J & J's Barbecue has great ribs and a fun bar and Beth's Twin Bluff's Cafe offers home cooking. And don't miss the National Eagle Center in Wabash.

Overall, this was a good park. The wireless service was pretty good, which was beneficial due to some of the storms that moved through during our weekend. The site we camped on was perfectly level, a mix of grass and gravel where the trailer was parked, and open grass in front. All sites appear to be full hook-up, and had 20, 30, and 50 amp service.

The biggest problem we had was that there doesn't appear to be a trash bin anywhere on the property. Also, it is a little difficult to find the property. I believe, in the future, they have some better plans, but there are no great markings to indicate where to turn for an "out-of-towner." Finally, there aren't really any activities on-site, so be sure you bring toys for the kiddos. We camped at Nelson's Landing RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Lark Toys is a toy shop with hand carved toys and a carousel (also made out of wood). Lake City is only 15-20 miles away.

Reminds me of, "Build it and they will come," from some movie. Except in this case, a lovely 100 site RV Park was built and thus far, they have not come. Mostly fewer than 10 sites filled during our month stay. Large, level, full hookup sites. Sites and roads are gravel. Most sites have picnic tables and some have a concrete pad for the table. Rate is for a monthly stay including tax and electricity. Trains are frequent, sometimes several in an hour, but I was not even slightly disturbed by them. To find this place, put the US Post Office, Nelson, WI 54756. Entrance to the park is right across the road from the Post Office. Check in is at the Nelson Cheese Factory (sign says Creamery) around the block from the RV Park entrance. Good AT&T wireless coverage, in fact it tested the fastest I have ever encountered. VERY slow T-Mobile wireless. Wi-Fi was installed while we were here and was satisfactory, with but a few short outage periods. A washer and dryer were installed in the new shower/laundry building while we were here, but we did not try them. No cable, but had excellent reception on Dish satellite, due to no large trees. Plenty of smaller ones have been planted. We camped at Nelson's Landing RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

About 40 minutes to a large supermarket or a SuperWalmart. Had about the best hamburger ever at the Alma Hotel in the town of Alma, about 10 miles downstream from Nelson. The Cheese Factory/Creamery has great ice cream. National Eagle Center is just across the bridge in Wabasha, MN. We enjoyed the Laura Ingalls Wilder Days celebration in Pepin, a few miles upstream from here.

This is a newer park and we were the only nightly guest. We enjoyed our stay, but the nightly rate should be lower. The site was level, full hookups, with 50 amp. We had good Verizon cell/MiFi reception and good satellite reception. There is no on-site manager. Registration and payment is made at Nelson's Creamery, one block from the campground. There are numerous train horns throughout the night. Keeping the windows closed and the A/C fans running helped to reduce the disturbing noise. We camped at Nelson's Landing RV Park in a Motorhome.

This campground appears to be new, wide open circular shape and very big rig friendly with lots of newly planted small trees. The bathhouse is brand new, just opened the weekend we were there and is the nicest I have ever seen - light and airy. Beautiful tiled floors and walls, private shower room with toilet and sink. laundry rooms are done but W/Ds had not been installed yet. There is a nice meeting room in a "tower" on the second floor - lots of natural light from walls of windows.

Note: Better signage needed about office/check in but you can check in across the main road at Nelson Creamery - which is a bistro/wine/beer/ cheese shop that provides great people watching...

The pull through sites are the ones with no trees planted behind them and can be accessed by driving across the lawn just past the bathhouse. The owner escorted us to a pull through site. There were elec boxes at all sites but not all of them had been completely hooked up yet so check that out before you start to set up.

When camping anywhere along the Great River Road you will encounter train noise as the tracks run along the river for miles. Unless you camp far enough inland, the chugging and train whistles/horns are audible. This campground is farther from the tracks than many other campgrounds in the area we have stayed at but the train sounds are still a reality. Got used to it by the second night. We camped at Nelson's Landing RV Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Hwy 35 is a beautiful drive thru many interesting small towns. Lots to do- antique shops, art studios, wineries, golfing, fishing. Many winding roads lead up and away from the River valley - great day trips if exploring on a motorcycle. The pizza barn is a unique experience. For gardeners, a visit to Stockholm Gardens is a must (15 min drive to Stockholm) They have pottery, beautiful display gardens and unique plants I have never seen anywhere else. In Nelson, BBQ place on Main St was awesome.
