This park cost us $45 less a night than a previous one and has better sites without all the glitz. Our site was spacious, good utilities and good wifi! We found it a good value. Park is quiet. Don't let the bar part of the name turn you away, although it might be a plus to some. It doesn't intrude on the park. We camped at Frontier Bar & Campgrounds in a Fifth Wheel.

Water and 50 amp electric in NEW sites is now $33 per night. Sites are nice, place is well cared for, but pretty much in the middle of nowhere so a little pricey. We camped at Frontier Bar & Campgrounds in a Motorhome.

Location off US 2 was perfect for a night on our way to Glacier. Limited sites with full hookups. Looked like a lot of folks were monthly renters. No one visited 5+ campers that were parked near us the entire time we were there. Would stay here again - for one night to get some rest. We camped at Frontier Bar & Campgrounds in a Travel Trailer.

Date of Stay: June, 2017 - $28.00
Overall Rating:

First Impression: Rather nice but there's nothing much around. This is a gas station, bar & grill, and campground, all rolled into one stop. Pleasant roadside presentation. Clean. Safety: no concerns. Access: on US-2, halfway between here and there. GPS took us right in. Billboard signs alert you to the CG which is clearly visible off the road. Office: In the bar & grill, token store with overpriced snacks, beer and soft drinks, and hot food, with a few RV and auto items. Credit cards accepted. Must call for reservations. Facilities: No pool, spa, fitness room, or rec center. No laundry room. Very old but clean restrooms with a single, pay shower stall (score "B"). No propane sales. Older but nice looking playground. No fenced dog run. Campground: Not in a flood plain. Roads are dirt/gravel with gentle turns and no overhead obstacles. Big rig friendly. Sites are all spacious, mostly pull-through with a few back-in. Tent area but no yurts or cabins. Sites are mostly grass (some dirt), level, quite long with grass between sites. Utilities at mid-rig with FHU-20/30; no meters. Low water pressure with good taste. Sewer pipe is 3" threaded, just above ground level. No patios. Weather worn picnic tables. Fire rings. Only a few sites have satellite views (trees elsewhere). No cable TV. OTA TV found 10 channels but no major networks. Free CG Wi-Fi but weak coverage; "ok" bandwidth. Verizon phone and 4G at 5 bars. No railroad or aircraft noise and only minor, occasional road noise. No recycle bins. Bug Report (early June): small brown ants, mounds all over the place. A lot of mosquitoes. Runners: CG roads ok for running, no fitness room so no treadmills. Yoga: grass is not tall, okay for your mat. Conclusion: Decent price for an overnight or a few days. We camped at Frontier Bar & Campgrounds in a Fifth Wheel.

At the bar (campground check-in) there was no record of our reservation. The site I reserved was occupied by another camper. The grass was not mowed and filled with ticks. There were no fire pits and no picnic table. Our site was close to the highway and quite noisy. We camped at Frontier Bar & Campgrounds in a Motorhome.

Large enough grass and dirt pull through in the back. That's where the 50 amp sites are. Water pressure was fine and sewer hookup was in the right place. Electric connection gave me several ground fault alerts the first 24 hours and we had one brief campground wide power outage. I made a small adjustment to the connection box to solve the ground fault problem. WIFI did not work until the last 2 days - then it was fine. Owner seems to have other more interesting business interests. He did not know the name of the WIFI network and gave me a 3 year old rate sheet. If you want a full hook up site, this is about your only option within 50 mile or so. We camped at Frontier Bar & Campgrounds in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Stormy Kromer factory has interesting free factory tours in Ironwood, Michigan. Very interesting visitor center just west of Ashland. Bayfield about 50 miles away has good boat tour of Apostle Islands.

We had full hook-ups. The 7th day was free. Don't let the "Bar" part dissuade you. It is a comfy little campground. Free Wi-Fi was nice and strong. We would stay there again. We camped at Frontier Bar & Campgrounds in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

We were there over 4th of July, go see the fireworks in Ashland, they're terrific! We went to Madeline Island on the ferry and also took a boat tour, both out of Bayfield. There are several waterfalls is the area, Potato Falls and Superior Falls were great, prepare to walk uphill!

The WiFi does not work at the campsite. You have to go into the station/office to use it. We had a good pull-through site with no overhanging trees. Since the leaves were falling, this prevented the collection of those on top of our rig. AT&T phone service is very poor - Verizon not much better! Just the area, not the campground's fault! We stayed 9 nights and got one night free. We would stay here again. We camped at Frontier Bar & Campgrounds in a Motorhome.

Don't let the "bar" part of the name discourage you. the campground is well behind the combination bar/convenience store/gas station office on the front. It is a great overnight, very quiet. We chose a pull through on the back row, very long, and plenty wide enough. They are dirt and grass sites, but hard packed and our 40' motor home had no issues pulling out even though it rained while we were there. We would definitely stay here again. This park is overpriced for what you get. It was clean with level sites that was grass and the road very dusty. Cell phone and air card did not work here. This would be a stop over and not a long stay. We camped at Frontier Bar & Campgrounds in a Motorhome.

The check in for this park is in the bar in front of it, which may sound sleazy, but it is clean, bright and has a store as well. Meals are also available. The manager was very professional. The spaces are large, shady and grassy. The WiFi was the best ever, however if you have to rely on your antenna, you get three channels-all public TV. If that doesn't matter to you, this is a great park. We camped at Frontier Bar & Campgrounds in a Motorhome.

An RVer walks into a bar and says I want to book a site. Okay, the bar is the office for the park but it's friendly, The park is clean, very generous pull throughs, wonderful for dogs. This is a great spot for an overnight passing through Route 2. We would stay here again. We camped at Frontier Bar & Campgrounds in a Fifth Wheel.

Very convenient, right off US2, about halfway between Ashland WI and Ironwood MI. People very friendly. Sites are grassy, level. Roads are gravel. Only reason for a 7 is that the sites are narrow. Sitting outside our rig, I could hear the people in the rig next to use opening/closing their drawers. We would stay here again. We camped at Frontier Bar & Campgrounds in a Motorhome.

Nice park for an overnight stay. Bar very convenient if you like a wind down drink after driving. Sites grass and gravel. Our assigned site was very uneven so I just pulled into the one next to it and told them I had moved. They had no problem with that. If you pull in and are ready for fuel, fill up as you get $2.00 off the nightly rate. I paid for water and electric, no sewer. Very convenient to Hwy 2. I would stay here again. Rate reflects added tax. Access to the highway was easy, has large sites with several pull throughs. 50amp sites are 50 amp only, same as 30 amp sites. Well taken care of, versus some of the recent campgrounds we have found on US2 across MN and WI. The pull through sites are for the most part, satellite friendly at the east end, tall trees could block signals at the west end. Verzion cells or aircards will not work at this campground, however our ATT "work" phone had "4 bars". WiFi was very strong several hundred yards from the office, repeaters worked well. But at $31, it's overpriced for parking on grass. We camped at Frontier Bar & Campgrounds in a Motorhome.
