This COE campground appears to be older and needs some upgrades. Most of the sites are uneven and sloped which makes leveling a challenge. The heavily wooded campground is 10 miles from the Eau de Galle reservoir day use area. The day use area is really nice, open and well kept and it would have been great if the campground was located in that area. The dump station is a large hole with no receptacle to adapt to your sewer hose. This is a weekend family campground where kids can play in the woods and enjoy a campsite fire but it would be a nicer place if some much needed maintenance was done. We camped at Highland Ridge COE in a Motorhome.

We stayed in a 40' Class A, site 38 in the North loop. Rate reflects 50% discount. Overall very nice, typical COE heavily wooded park, but campsites are not near water. Some of it's pretty tight; know how to drive if you have a big rig. Roads in were easy. About half the sites are pretty level and half on a slope, as the cg is built on a ridge. If you have a long rig, check when making a reservation. Very quiet, busy on weekend but almost empty during the week. Facilities acceptably clean. Showers use button, but no coins needed. Inexpensive firewood right outside park. Good cellular data with Verizon, acceptable with AT&T and T-Mobile. 20+ TV channels from Twin Cities. Most fireflies I have ever seen. Recommended. We camped at Highland Ridge COE in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

This is a place to chill out in the woods. Pretty much everything is a distance or a long distance. Spring Valley is the nearest town; 6 miles or so and nice, but not much. Good laundromat, though, and a nice Family Dollar. Laundromat was clean, cool; washers $1.75 to $2.50, 15 minutes of drying for 25 cents. Post office accepts General Delivery. Nearest Walmart 20 miles in Menominee. Twin Cities is about 50 miles, mostly freeway.

Quiet, wooded sites with electric only RV hookups. We really enjoyed our stay. Quiet wooded with plenty of space between sites. There was a path through the woods to the showers and restrooms or you could take a longer way around by the road loop. Showers were free but there was a button you had to press to initiate water flow. We camped at Highland Ridge COE in a Fifth Wheel.

We camped in the overflow equestrian site, which is a wide open field. There are fire grates and 2 portable toilets. The toilets were very old, broken, filthy and overfilled. The main campground seemed very nice but our experience was not. We camped at Highland Ridge COE in a Tent Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Not much going on in town. The rest of the recreation are is beautiful, but as the campgrounds are on the other side of the reservoir, you need to drive 10 miles to get to the fishing/swimming/picnic grounds.

This is the 2nd time we have been here and we really enjoy it. Our site had 50 amp service, no water hookups, electric only. We had a long site and they all seem to very wooded and private. Some of the sites at the beginning seem to be very step to back into them. Just follow the brown signs of I-94 and it will take you right to the campground. The campground entrance is on Dugan Road. The fire ring was not the best, but that is minor. It was quiet, wooded, and private. We really enjoyed it. We camped at Highland Ridge COE in a Fifth Wheel.

Crystal Cave is in the area, Cady Cheese has very good cheese curds, and Spring Valley has and nice city pool. Campground is about 5 minutes south of I-94.

This campground is very nice with private, well-spaced sites. My site was so long, it was hard to keep the popup straight backing in. My Verizon service was very spotty. As previous post said - GPS tries to take you to the recreation area, not the campground, so follow freeway signs if you come in on Hwy 94. I hiked to an overlook and the swimming beach seemed to be quite active across the lake. Due to poor packing on my part, I did go to the town grocery store. The store was small, but had a good selection and wasn't outrageous. The campground is an easy drive from the Twin Cities. It's sort of a hidden gem that Minnesotan's don't know about. The only downside is that there isn't an office, they don't sell wood and the showers are $.25. I got really speedy the second day. The nice hosts will recommend where to buy wood up the road, but you need cash. Plan ahead for these two inconveniences. We camped at Highland Ridge COE in a Tent Trailer.

This place would be awesome if it had water and sewer hook ups. It's beautifully shaded, nice big sites, cool playground, and great hiking trails. Cell service/data is nonexistant and GPS takes you to the completely wrong side of the lake. Crystal caves was pretty cool though. We camped at Highland Ridge COE in a Travel Trailer.

My husband and I camped here and it is an awesome, excellent, campground! How did we not know about this earlier?! The sites are all large, heavily wooded, private, and beautiful. The campground is quiet and peaceful. Our son and family joined us with their tent and there was plenty of room for all. There is a newer shower/restroom building, a small playground for the little ones, and the walk around the campground is enjoyable. This is our new go-to destination for a weekend get-away. I highly recommend this campground! We camped at Highland Ridge COE in a Motorhome.

Price reflects GA discount. This is a beautiful, well maintained campground. Lots of trees and several trails that go to the lake. We have a 37' fifth wheel and pickup and had lots of room. Site 24 must be at least 90' long and site 10 and several of the 20-24 sites are as long. Power was good for us and since we were the only campers it was nice and quiet. Our Verizon phones, MiFi and antenna TV was all good. Power at the site only. Fresh water located in a few places in the park. We would recommend this one for sure. We camped at Highland Ridge COE in a Fifth Wheel.

This is a very heavily wooded campground with narrow paved roads and gravel sites many of which are unlevel. All sites have 50A service, but the voltage started out low and didn't get any better. There is no lake access at the campground. I am being generous with the rating because it is a peaceful place more suited for tents and smaller RVs not over 30 feet. It is absolutely not big rig friendly. This park is more like a US Forest Service campground than a Corp of Engineer one. Access and Golden Age cards are honored here. We camped at Highland Ridge COE in a Motorhome.

Nice wooded COE remote campground with many deep sites to accommodate a 38-foot motorhome, tight squeezes on the turns so unhooked any tow vehicle is recommended. We reserved here via recreation.gov website to be sure to have a site as we were planning on a late arrival. Wonderful service and we were happy to have our site waiting for us. A few of the "first come first served" sites 1-7 might be a tough parking situation as they are sloped or slanted, but some folks with pop-ups, class B's and tents made the most of it. Campground road is blacktopped, but the sites are either gravel or grass. Dense underbrush and heavy foliage make completely private campsites. No aircard signals or cell signals unless you went up the road a few miles. Water is available from spigots throughout the park and there is a dump station. Great hosts were friendly and helpful and courteous. The resevoir and beach area were a drive around to the south side of the lake, far away from the campground, not a walkable distance. Cute town of Spring Valley nearby with groceries, gas, restaurants and shops. I only give this place a 9 due to distance to lake. But it's the type of quiet camping we prefer, so it's a 10 in our book! We camped at Highland Ridge COE in a Motorhome.

We really liked this campground. It was heavily wooded and the sites had some privacy. We had site #1 (a non-reservable site) and it was very roomy for our 30 ft class A. Bathhouses were not very impressive and the day use area is about eight miles away but we value privacy above all else so we were happy. The campground was full over the weekend but we didn't even notice. Not all of the sites are perfectly level and ours had a slope but once you got to the bottom of site it leveled out. They show movies in the recreation hall on Saturday nights. We did fun day trips to Mall of America (about 60 miles) and the Laura Ingles Wilder birthplace site in Pepin, WI (about 40 miles). We camped at Highland Ridge COE in a Motorhome.

Large forested sites. From site 29 we were able to get a satellite TV signal, but that looked like the only site that would have worked. Easy access for big rigs. Quite a nice campground. We camped at Highland Ridge COE in a Motorhome.
