We love the island. We love it so much we'd probably stay in the middle of a mudpit and find it hard to complain. The campground has seen some changes in recent years--mostly in terms of cabin builds. But one thing does remain consistent...if you want to use the showers, bring your galoshes. The drainage problem there that was also present years ago results in a pretty nasty shower experience (ankle deep in mysterious swamp like whoknowswhat). Some attempts seem to be made with keeping up with the cleanliness, but the feminine products floating in the showers and crazy slow-drain soapy residue made the restrooms something to avoid during our stay. The laundry facilities are the only ones on the island, but it will cost ya $5.00 a load (2.75 wash, 2.25 dry). Some sites will challenge even the best backer-upper, as maneuvering around trees and then attempting to be level is not always an easy task here. Lots of tent camping among RV sites with W/E hookups, the purpose of which seems to be to use the electricity to run radios. All day, all night. Given that tents cannot contain noise like RVs can, some additional separation or assignment of sites might be helpful....for instance a section for tents that want electricity, etc. The park could really use some camphosts, as it appears one or two people are trying to manage the whole thing...and it shows via a lot of site neglect. We camped at Washington Island Camping Retreat in a Travel Trailer.

Washington Island is a nice place to visit and this campground is the only game in town. Nice, large, wooded campsites. Electric pedestals are out in the woods between campsites so you will need a long extension cord. Our 30 Amp cord + extension cord wouldn't reach so we had to use a 50 foot 20 Amp cord.

Owners are very friendly and there are a lot of nice amenities like a swimming pond with sand beach, miniature golf course, playground, etc.

The down sides are the place needs more and better maintenance--potholes in roads, general litter in campground, inoperative fixtures in restrooms. A strange thing--the restrooms were clean and well stocked with soap, paper towels, etc. But the showers were pretty cruddy. And it's a long hike from the camp sites to the restrooms & showers.

Not a great campground, but OK if you want to stay a few days on Washington Island. We camped at Washington Island Camping Retreat in a Travel Trailer.

On the brochure I got from the RV dealer about the campground there were people swimming and holding up big fish which leads you to believe there is water at the campground. Not the case. The campground is located 4 miles from the water on a small island. All that shoreline and they put the campground in the middle of nowhere. To get to the island it's about 100 bucks in ferry fees. Once on the island you start to see there is not as much to do there than where you came from. The staff was nice and it was easy to get a reservation. The island coast is beautiful and the water is clear and cold. I would like to rate this campground higher but due to the lack of activities, 5 is as high as I'll go. I would suggest to save the ferry ride money and stay somewhere else in Door County. We camped at Washington Island Camping Retreat in a Tent Trailer.
