We stayed in Curt Gowdy State Park for two nights on a trip up to Yellowstone. Reservations were made on line and we were able to pick out our campsite at that time. Park staff was very friendly and everything was just fine. Our site had easy lake access and there are a number of nice hiking and biking trails around the two lakes in the Park. Site had electric and water and was pretty level. AT&T Cell service was adequate and there were a few OTA channels from Cheyenne. We stayed in site 25 in the Tumbleweeds campground. We camped at Curt Gowdy State Park in a Motorhome.

We just stopped in on a whim driving a 30 foot MH pulling a toad. The drive up is a WOW. We were advised to check out vacancies in the Hecla Point area. This area has no hook-ups. Fantastic view of lake and mountains at 7400 elevation. high desert. Other areas require a reservation 48 hours in advance. Some of them had concrete pads and electric or/and water. We were completely happy with our site H-15 and after a drive around the park decided it was one of the better ones. Plenty of walking/biking trails and mountain bike type trails. Dogs not allowed in water at Granite Reservoir as it is part of the Cheyenne Municipal Water Supply. Good cell coverage on Verizon. Very quiet and peaceful CG. I remember Curt Gowdy from Wide World of Sports and the Olympics coverage, he is from Cheyenne. We would definitely return as a destination it is that beautiful. We camped at Curt Gowdy State Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Took a drive to Crystal Reservoir which is about 4 miles. We drove our small toad and glad that we did as roads are tighter over there. Our site was more of parallel parking than a pull-through.

Convenient stop (12 miles off I80) as we traveled through region. My wife & I tented in the "North Causeway" adjacent to outhouse on top of hill. Arrived @ 8:30P, pitched tent by 9:00P & got in tent. At 10:00P, a large animal sniffed around our tent for 30 minutes. After that, it was uneventful except for the occasional vehicle coming and going until midnight. The "sniffing" is par for the course when in the west. It did frighten my wife, but we settled down without incident until our departure at 5:30A. We camped at Curt Gowdy State Park in a Tent.

Located in a very scenic area halfway between Laramie and Cheyenne. We camped in the first loop where it seemed all lots are pull through and very spacious. The driveway was gravel and adjacent to a large patio with fire pit and concrete picnic table. Grass surrounded all. We were site #21 which was a little uneven but we adjusted. We appreciated the view and the privacy of our campsite. We would have preferred flush toilets and showers. We arrived just after 5 so there wasn't any direction, maps, or clues to what there was to do and where to go. The signs weren't a big help so I wish I had printed out a map of the park before our trip. We camped at Curt Gowdy State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

There was a little camp "store" which was just a trailer on a campsite. Campgrounds along I-80 in WY are sometimes sketchy because they allow full time residents so getting off the road to a state park appealed to us. Maybe added 30-45 minutes to our trip.

The park is huge, measured in miles, developed around the Granite Reservoir and the Crystal Reservoir. The area is on the Plains with few trees. The lakes, reservoirs, are lovely. There are bike paths, hiking trails, mountain bike trails, boat ramps, fishing, and horse trails. The scenery is spectacular if you like deserts. It is used mainly by locals for weekend outings, but there is a lot of room for transients. The roads are gravel - a bit dusty - and the sites spacious.

There are a few sites that provide electricity and water for an extra charge, (sites 1-8). These sites are available by reservation only, and that brings you right up against the bureaucracy of a government run RV park. (The site that we were refused, was empty the entire time we were here.) I will not go into that here other than to say reservations are handled by an offsite third party, and there is little coordination between them and the onsite people. This is a good thing as what coordination there is, is wrong. There is no dump station on site. And, of course, you will never see a state employee in the park. The work is handled by 'camp hosts'.

The area is beautiful with abundant wildlife: lots of Groundhogs. Cheyenne and Laramie are both about a 25-mile drive. My wife and I would not hesitate to visit this park again prepared to dry camp. Oh, I should mention that they may or may not charge full camping price for each vehicle that you bring.

The Wyoming State Museum provides a good overview of what's happened in the state and well worth a visit. The museum covers the coal industry in Wyoming that makes them all Republicans. The Air Force Missile Museum gives one a thin, but worthwhile overview of our deterrent missile system. However, you have to be able to pass through security and willing to be escorted on and off of the base. I had to wonder if too many security checks affect your security clearance like too many credit checks affects your credit rating.

No Dump Station! Take it with you when you leave. We camped at Curt Gowdy State Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Equidistant to Cheyenne and Laramie.

The missile museum in Cheyenne is a little sparse but, you get a chance to meet the wonderful young people in our armed service (Air Force). And, you'll find out if the Government is looking for you.

We stayed here on a Saturday in July without a reservation. The ranger said that we would be able to find a space because there was a fire ban. We stayed in our 25 foot motorhome and dry camped. We found a nice site overlooking the lake. The roads are gravel but our site was fairly flat. It was just a few steps down to the lake. The lake was full of boats, paddle boards and kayakers. You can rent a canoe for $20. The archery range is amazing and one of the best we have ever seen, but it is not excessively challenging. Even the beginner has a chance on this range as the targets are large and the distance to the targets well marked. However, need to do some hiking and bring some water. The sunsets over the lake are amazing. This park is best for the active RVer. We camped at Curt Gowdy State Park in a Motorhome.

Curt Gowdy State Park is about halfway between Cheyenne and Laramie and is a decent alternative to commercial campgrounds for visiting either place. The drive to either city is gorgeous, but about 25 minutes each way. The park is mainly a water sports and mountain biking destination. There are nearly 40 miles of excellent mountain bike trails. There are many very large waterfront sites in both the dry camping and electric/water areas. A lot of the sites are set up for multiple RVs so an extended family could have a great group camping experience here. The prevalence of mountain bikes makes the trails less pleasant for hiking and there is no swimming in the lakes. Overall, though, a very scenic and pleasant campground. We had surprisingly decent Verizon 4G and cell reception. We camped at Curt Gowdy State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

This park's lake and scenery are absolutely beautiful but it is difficult for full time RVers to see a value here. The office personnel were absolutely clueless about where we should park. All of the sites with water and electric are reservation only. We were told on the phone that we could go into the park and select a site. When we showed up, we were told that we could not go into the hookup area without reservations and reservations had to be made two days in advance, so dry camping was our only option. We did find one of the very few dry camping sites level enough and large enough for our motorhome and toad. The whole place needs to be graded to remove the many huge bumps and muddy areas everywhere. Gravel needs to be spread throughout the park. There is no dump station in the park. I doubt that we would stay here again. We camped at Curt Gowdy State Park in a Motorhome.

This is a beautiful park and many upgrades have been recently completed. There is a beautiful new visitor center with historical displays on the main floor and new coin operated showers on the lower floor. The Tumbleweed RV loop with hookups has beautiful, level waterfront and lake view sites. There are composting toilets throughout the park, and they now accept credit cards. We camped at Curt Gowdy State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Great park. The parks folks are helpful. Most sites are first come and they will let you go find a spot before you pay. Since I work from the road I needed Verizon service. The only area that had coverage was on the northwest side as you come into the park and the water/electric sites. 2 bars Verizon LTE but I needed my Wilson booster to get that level of coverage. We camped at Curt Gowdy State Park in a Travel Trailer.

This is a beautiful park with a great visitors center with Curt Gowdy memorabilia. Sites are very well spaced, the only problem being that the site we were assigned was very unlevel. Only hydraulic jacks would have worked. After a couple of phone calls (extremely nice people) we took a different site and really enjoyed the stay. We camped at Curt Gowdy State Park in a Travel Trailer.

This is a nice spread out camp area. Some tent sites, some no hook ups, some with water and electric. They are scattered around the lake. We had an electric/water site in Tumbleweeds. None of the sites were right up on another. Looks like the main activity is water sports. Lots of jet skis, ski boat, water tubes. No swimming, that seemed odd. We enjoyed the stay. Some might be put off by the watercraft noises and this would not be a good choice for those. They were pretty much all done by dusk. No highways or trains noises at night. Would pick this park again if in the area. We camped at Curt Gowdy State Park in a Motorhome.

Great state park located midway between Cheyenne and Laramie. Plenty of well spaced out sites with many directly on the water. We stayed in Tumbleweeds #27. It was a pull through site that was pretty level and just a few steps away from the lake. There is plenty of great hiking in the park and very pet friendly - we have a small dog. We will definitely stay here again. We camped at Curt Gowdy State Park in a Motorhome.
