Sites are a little closer together than I would have liked, but it's right in the town of Cody with a Dairy Queen next door. (I ordered a cup of ice cream for my dog who they could see outside and they put a bone on top of it.) Did a lot of walking. Can walk to the Buffalo Bill Museum and down the main Street. Cody is 52 miles to the east entrance of the park and 77 miles to the northeast entrance. What a difference from the south to east. We saw lots of animals. Everything but a wolf. There's also a very nice dog park in Cody along a lake that the dogs can swim in and nice trails along the lake to walk. We camped at Ponderosa Campground in a Motorhome.

Irma hotel (named after Buffalo Bills daughter) was very nice. Watched football and drank Gold beer, a local beer like a light blue moon. Went to the Buffalo Bill Dam outside of town & Buffalo Bill museum. One of the patrons at the Irma hotel told us about a restaurant she managed in Cody called Brewgards. She said they don't advertise, only work of mouth. It was SOO good, and not expensive. Try it. It's not on Tripadvisor but you can google it. Also went to the silver dollar bar.

We were on a caravan when we stayed here. Our dawn patrol helped to assign spots. Our group was pretty close together, but we were not in the "pull-thru" area ... we all had back in sites. Our rigs range in size from 45' to 24' ... the big rigs had some issues getting into their spots, but we were OK, since we are 31'. However, our site was on a weird angle, with water & Electric on the wrong side and not enough room to park out vehicle on our site. we had to park in the overflow area. The staff was friendly and helpful and we were close enough to a few attractions, that we could walk. We camped at Ponderosa Campground in a Motorhome.

When you arrive, it appears to be quite the place but when you get to your site it is unimpressive. It's a slab of gravel, a little grass and picnic table. I feel like I'm in a parking lot. And they have a policy you are supposed to call on the day you are coming by 3:00 or they will possibly sell your spot. That's an odd thing. Who reads the fine print? Not us. Fortunately they called us before giving away our space. Don't love it. We camped at Ponderosa Campground in a Motorhome.

A Tale of Two Cities: If you have a big rig (35'+) this is a fairly nice park. Spaces okay, grounds nice, people nice nice laundry room plus cabins and teepees. If you have a smaller RV (ours is a newer 26' pulling a Jeep) be prepared to be a sardine. Appears they tried to squeeze every possible place into the parking lot and spaces with little grass and no room at all in your space. If we opened our awning we would hit the slide out of the rig next to us. Bottom Line: Over 35' rig 90% chance you will get an adequate spot; under 35' rig 90% chance you will get a crappy spot. We will not be staying there again. We camped at Ponderosa Campground in a Motorhome.

We stayed three nights. I walked the entire campground and I can guarantee that ours was the worst site. #21. The campsites are extremely close together. Ours had no grass, just a postage size plot of weeds. If you have a big rig, you get some decent sites. This park was very disappointing and there is no way we will ever return. We camped at Ponderosa Campground in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

WE were here before and after a rally so no idea of cost. Many years ago we were in the pull through area and it was pleasant. This time we were in what I am guessing is the older part. We had a back-in site against the road but it has some overhanging branches that with minor trimming would have allowed our satellite to work, but they would not trim or allow me to trim them, however they did move me to a spot that was satellite friendly. The office is very busy and yet does try to help if they can, so they get a 9. The park is just too many RVs of all sizes trying to fit in. I backed up to an area of small sites for slide outs or small trailers. Never knew whose hand I might be shaking out of my bedroom window on any given day. Not my favorite park but if you want to walk to everything this is the place. We camped at Ponderosa Campground in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

We stayed 7 nights in July 2018. Rate is $46/night or $42 w/Good Sam. Add 9% tax and our total was $320.46 or $45.78 avg nightly cost. Reservation was made online via a form on their website during the Winter when the park was closed. Received a prompt and cheerful email confirmation. They do not accept credit cards so had to snail mail a paper check for $100 deposit. The balance was paid at check-in also with a paper check. It's a busy/crowded place with 4th of July week being their busiest time period (plan ahead!). Check in was quick and efficient. Staff is very friendly. We unhooked toad in entrance area but be fast because there may be campers waiting behind you. Interior roads are tight for a big rig (43') but manageable. We were in site #98 which had odd hookup placement with power on the passenger side sharing the post with the neighbor. Sewer is in the very back of the site. Our sewer hose barely reached. All hookups worked perfectly. It was hot and we ran 3 A/Cs with no issues. The site was generally level. We had clear sky for DirecTV signal. Verizon cell and Mifi worked OK but not great. Did not try the CG wifi. Interior roads are mostly dirt with some gravel which can get dusty when it's windy. They have planted new sod here and there between sites which is nice. However it needs to be watered regularly (understandably) so staff moved sprinklers around our site sometimes watering our rig. There's not much that can be done other than to wipe down your rig as quickly as you can to avoid spotting. Funny - their rules don't allow washing of any vehicle but we ended up "washing" it after all! We were able to walk to the museum and downtown area for restaurants, shopping, trolley tour, shoot out and 4th of July parade. While I can't say I loved the CG, I feel it's the best location for visiting Cody. I would look at all options first but would definitely consider staying here again if in the area. We camped at Ponderosa Campground in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

There is a bus which will pick up at the CG to take you to the rodeo ($5 per person round trip). One hour trolley combo ticket w/ museum provides a small savings. Trolley gives overview and historical perspective of Cody. Museum allows you to come/go for two consecutive days. If you have time, you'll need a good part of each day. We especially enjoyed the free docent tours as well as the chuck wagon demonstration (with samples!). The Irma Hotel buffet was so-so and not worth $27/person.

Ponderosa $49 Very pleasant staff who go out of their way to help you plan your Cody visit. The sites are close together. Our site was long enough for our motorhome and toad. Roads are easy to navigate. Utilities were well placed and worked well. Cable is good even though it's not digital. Wifi is poor. The campground is clean. We would stay again. PROS - friendly staff and location CONS - most of the sites are tiny, some even 100% asphalt like a parking lot. Looks nice street side, but nothing special inside. Our site was nicer than most, but the hookups were inconvenient - sewer at center rear of coach rather than on drivers side, and shared utility posts with neighbor. We stayed at a nearby State Park. Leaving there for this CG was a mistake. We camped at Ponderosa Campground in a Motorhome.

Sites are very close together. I had to park the truck in a parking area. After returning from the rodeo, there was no room in the parking lot close to the site and had to park in another part of the campground along the exit road. Stop at the dam if you are going to Yellowstone. We camped at Ponderosa Campground in a Travel Trailer.

We have stayed here twice. The staff is so helpful! They will give you all kinds of info on Cody and Yellowstone. The laundry room was fantastic! Sites are a little tight, close together - but we did not feel cramped even in our big rig. Room for the toad at the end of the site. Picnic tables and grass for the sites. Also have some cabins for renters. Very convenient to everything in Cody! We camped at Ponderosa Campground in a Motorhome.

This is an older park that was expanded about ten years ago. We stayed in the newer section with full hook-ups. The sites are narrow but long enough for any coach or trailer. The hook-ups were well located. The site has grass, narrow cement pad/walkway, and rock pull thru (could use more rock). It rained while we where here and some of the sites were flooded. The check in was good but cash only. The enter and exit are dangerous the park is on a curve with limited view in one direction on a very busy street. We camped at Ponderosa Campground in a Motorhome.

Cody is a great town with lots of history. The Buffalo Bill Museum is one of the best for western history. We took the trolley car tour and it was great. Also, the shoot-out down town was entertaining. It even has a Walmart and a nice downtown area.
