Easy to find, but can be a long wait to enter when traffic is backed up at Devils Tower entrance which it often is. After you turn into the campground the entrance is poorly designed and confusing which causes problems. Pleasant staff. Very nice camp store and gift shop. Layout of campground is confusing with tight turns, but pull through site was long enough for our motorhome and toad. Utilities are toward back of site and are inconvenient if you are leaving your toad attached. Utilities worked well. No cable or ota channels. Wifi is poor. Very overpriced for what you get. The only reason to stay here is proximity to Devils Tower. I doubt we would stay again. We camped at Devils Tower / Black Hills KOA in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

I like this campground, in general. Biggest cons are the cost. It is extremely expensive, at 63.00/night with Good Sam discount. There are no fire rings or grills. There are very cheap, table top charcoal grills for $20 here, which is what we bought. We had to put our rear wheels on 6" blocks. The majority of the pull through sites are more level. All roads and sites are gravel. Some of the good points: Location: Except for the National Park Campground in the park, this is the closest RV park. This park is literally just yards outside the entrance to Devils Tower. The customer service is great. My sewer receptacle was too high, about 6". I complained about it, and the next morning, people came with a stack of lumber, and made it work. There are two fairly large souvenir shops here with fast food. Still, if you can find another park at a reasonable rate, it might be worth it. We camped at Devils Tower / Black Hills KOA in a Motorhome.

Location is the primary draw to this park located next to the entrance of Devil's Tower NM. Still a nice park overall. Our pull through site was large enough for our MH and toad, somewhat close to our neighbor, fairly level, gravel but clean. Friendly staff. The lower section of the campground is the actual film site for scenes from "Close Encounters of the Third Kind." As a summer bonus the park screens the movie every night in it's amphitheater, or you can rent a DVD from the office. I'd stay here again. We camped at Devils Tower / Black Hills KOA in a Motorhome.

This is a great park to stay at if visiting the Devils Tower Monument or anything in the area. We stayed for 3 nights and had a large pull-thru site. The park is directly at the base of the Tower and every site has a nice view of the Tower. There's 2 small gift shops onsite and one of them has very limited grocery supplies. If you need gas or groceries, the closest location is in Hulett, 9 miles away. There's a small river that runs right along the park that I fished and caught a couple carp. The park was not even half full when we stayed (May 18th) but I bet it gets really crowed after Memorial Day. One of the best parts of our 35 day trip so far. We camped at Devils Tower / Black Hills KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

We drove into Hulett for fuel and supplies. Bought a bunch of homemade foods from 2 Mennonite girls selling outside the grocery store. Took a drive down to Keyhole lake. We took a 19 mile drive down dirt roads through "open range" country to get there - awesome views.

Location, location, location. This campground was excellent, right next to the park, great views, spacious sites, friendly staff. My wife said these were the nicest showers she has used. My only complaint is that there was no water at the dump station to flush my tank, otherwise everything was perfection. We camped at Devils Tower / Black Hills KOA in a Travel Trailer.

There is a small snack shop across the street but get there early as they do sell out of things. Of course the park is the big draw. Campground shows Close Encounters every night, kind of fun.

Its all about the location here. Super friendly check in staff of workampers. Easy to navigate wide gravel roads, no pot holes. Our site was spacious and level and plenty of space between us and our neighbors. We even had apple trees on our site and were encouraged to help ourselves. Showers are great, as is the bathroom and laundry (newly remodeled). Tomatoes planted purposefully at showerhouse and you are welcome to pick as you need. The view of the tower is remarkable and you have to hike the trails. The red beds are breathtaking and abundant wildlife in and around the campground. The local buffalo "Bella" is a real hoot..she poses for photographers. Camp store is beautiful and the restaurant is great! We camped at Devils Tower / Black Hills KOA in a Motorhome.

Very nice family friendly park if you have kids, great location. One of the better KOAs we've stayed at. They usually play "Close Encounters" in the evening but didn't the day we pulled in because of thunderstorms. We would stay here again. We camped at Devils Tower / Black Hills KOA in a Motorhome.

BED BUGS! We stayed in a cabin for 1 night and got eaten alive. The bathrooms, showers, grounds, pool were fine, but do not stay in a cabin! The rustic wood furniture and interior of the cabins make them excellent breeding grounds for bed bugs. No amount of chemical spray or treatment is going to kill them, there are too many cracks and crevasses for them to hide in. So, if you're in a tent, or an RV you're fine. We camped at Devils Tower / Black Hills KOA in a Cabin.

If you're staying for the views of Devils Tower, this place can't be beat. Even if you can't see it from your easy chair at your site, the tower is visible from most areas of the park if you just take a walk. We walked into the park early in the morning past the ranger station to watch the sunrise - no one there that early to check in with, and we just walked a few hundred yards and then turned back, going into the park with our vehicle later in the day. The KOA itself is really nice. The showers are individual, and newly tiled. Very clean and private. The pool and play area were well-used by the kids in the park. Our site had a partial view if we looked over our truck. We didn't have any complaints, and would stay here again if we ever come back to the area. There's not much to do except see the tower and a couple of small museums in the area, but it's beautiful country with lots of less-traveled roads that would be great for motorcycling. We didn't watch the movie, but what a treat to get to see it for free! Maybe next time. We camped at Devils Tower / Black Hills KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

There's a back entrance you can use to get into the KOA if you're stuck in the traffic trying to get into the park. Check out the small museum in Hulett - the owner/curator is onsite and a wonderful man full of information.

Very dusty - the roads and sites are more dirt than gravel and people go faster than they should. The entrance to the KOA is just before the entrance to Devils Tower. You get stuck in the line to go to DT even if you're going to the KOA. I wouldn't stay here planning to use it as a base camp for the area because of that line which was pretty long most of the day. On the upside it was very easy to get to Devils Tower which is the only reason to stay here! We had a view of the tower from the front of our site 48 even though it wasn't a "view" site. Wifi didn't work very well. No OTA channels although we did get satellite. Lots of grass for dog walking. We didn't use restrooms or pool but we seldom do. I doubt we return. Gravel sites were virtually level, clean, with grass patio. Sewer on our site (#13) was too far from the electrical/water to hook up simultaneously unless you have a very long hose and caterpillar support, but worked for dumping when ready to leave.

A tip to the park manager: Unfortunately, This KOA is similar to others with high-end pricing, possibly due to the many amenities that we don't need or ever use. I suggest you offer structured pricing for those looking for a simple overnight place to park. We camped at Devils Tower / Black Hills KOA in a Motorhome.

They say you never get a second chance to make a good first impression. The last park we were in offered us free ice cream on check-in. Here at Devils Tower KOA our first impression was of chaos. Their driveway/parking lot has no signs (other than the signs along the fence saying Do Not Park Here), no arrows or lines on the pavement, and it is crowded with not only campers checking in, but with gift shop, restaurant and snack bar traffic. We pulled in along their road and checked in, the office lady was very nice. We were given a map showing our site location, but on the roads there are NO signs to direct you to your site. We parked in the full sun with no shade in the afternoon even with our awning down. (In fact our neighbors moved their picnic table close to our motor home so they could be in the shade of it!) Having said all this, the park will probably make no changes because everyone wants to come here to see Devils Tower. It's all about location, I realize that; otherwise they would never be able to charge what they charge. We camped at Devils Tower / Black Hills KOA in a Motorhome.

This KOA is in a beautiful setting just before the entrance to Devil's Tower. Even though we did not get a "view" site, we had a beautiful view of Devil's Tower out the front windshield of the coach. We got a log pull thru site plenty long enough to keep the toad attached. We faced a grass field where some of the tent sites are. The park is easily accessed from the main road and the interior roads are wide enough to get around without any trouble. The internet was really good. There is no cable or over the air channels so you will need a satellite dish to get anything. There is lots of space to walk the dog. The entrance to Devil's Tower is adjacent to the park. We really enjoyed our stay and would definitely come back. We camped at Devils Tower / Black Hills KOA in a Motorhome.

This is one one of the more spacious sites in the campground. Water pressure was good, downside windshield facing away from tower, upside awning side facing tower. Unfortunately a 45 footer in the next site over blocked our view unless we sat near the edge of our site. Pad level side to side but on a bit of a slope in the front.
