Its been 5 years since I was last here, and 50 years since I started coming here. Very little has changed. The roads are bad, the sites, which were once paved, are now gravel and dirt. When it rains, a lake forms under your rig. The bathrooms were built almost 40 years ago and are bad. Whoever designed the dump station obviously hasn't camped in an RV. Again, the trees were not well trimmed this year. The GTLC staff try their best, but they are working with an old, broken down campground. Meanwhile, NPS is building another new building at Park headquarters. Too bad they haven't invested a dime in Colter Bay in 40 years. But, if you want to stay in the Park, then they have the exclusive. We camped at Colter Bay Village Campground -- No Hookups (Concessionaire Operated) in a Fifth Wheel.

Great campground with spacious camp sites. We opted for no electric hookups as we used a generator. There are hookup sites available on a first come first serve basis. We arrived at 9:30am and had no problem getting a site. Fresh water fill up was very near our site. We camped at Colter Bay Village Campground -- No Hookups (Concessionaire Operated) in a Travel Trailer.

This is a clean, quiet campground. Sites are shady, near-level dirt and gravel. Each site has a picnic table and fire ring with grill. Roads are narrow asphalt in very good condition. Verizon LTE works but can be slow. Staff are friendly and helpful. We camped at Colter Bay Village Campground -- No Hookups (Concessionaire Operated) in a Motorhome.

I had called for a week trying to get a site with hook ups and stopped by on my way south to Rawlins WY to see if by chance they had a cancelation and decided to camped in the no hook up for 1 night. The site I was assigned was kind of narrow and in order to put out my slides where they did not encroach on the road my steps were right on top of the wooden border. It was very quite and peaceful. I took my dog out for a walk in the morning as was able to get some good pictures of the Teton Mountains as well as several animals. We camped at Colter Bay Village Campground -- No Hookups (Concessionaire Operated) in a Fifth Wheel.

This park is wonderful. The first thing to greet us was the awesome smell of the pine trees. We were here for a week, and found it close to most everything. It was about 40 minutes from Jackson, but close to Jenny Lake and numerous spots for viewing the amazing Teton Mountains. It is not far from the South Entrance to Yellowstone. We drove up to DuBois, a must see drive. There is a village right outside the park with General Store, Visitor's Center, Gift Shop, Laundry, and access to Jackson Lake. There are also two restaurants, but we didn't try either. We camped at Colter Bay Village Campground -- No Hookups (Concessionaire Operated) in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

We only spent one day in Jackson. Lots and lots of shops and grocery stores. Only a K-Mart. Many of the restaurants close at 3 p.m. and don't open again until 5:30 for dinner. We ate at Bubba's BBQ, and it was very good. They have a huge salad bar and good sandwiches. Otherwise, we ate at our RV or in Yellowstone. About 45 minutes to Old Faithful with stops at Lewis Falls and Keppler Cascades.

Electric sites available for medical reasons. No other hook-ups. Level spacious sites.
Only showers are near the General Store which is not that close to campground. Showers are $4.25 per person. Poor Verizon reception & WiFi. Great campground but rating as a 8 because of shower situation and unclean bathroom(1 of the 4 toilets unclean). We camped at Colter Bay Village Campground -- No Hookups (Concessionaire Operated) in a Motorhome.

We were lucky enough to get one of the sites that has electric only hookup. Also, it was open and we were able to get satellite reception and decent Verizon signal. The campground is convenient to all the activities in Grand Teton and we traveled to Yellowstone to avoid moving the RV, also could not get a reservation in Yellowstone and RV was too big for the campgrounds. Would definitely stay here again if in the area. The sites without electric are OK, first come first served. Our rate was for a Golden Eagle Pass. If you can live with no frills and limited generator use 8am to 8pm, this is such a great experience. Remember you will be out sightseeing and in the summer months you may not get back to your camp site until late. So plan ahead for eating back at camp. We saw many bear, elk, deer, moose. They tag the bears and monitor them. Google bear 399; she has her own page. Very sad when we were there some motorist hit and killed her latest cub. Please drive slow and with caution there.

The boat cruise on Jackson lake very nice as well as Yellowstone Lake cruise.

This was possibly my best trip ever camping. Will go back. We camped at Colter Bay Village Campground -- No Hookups (Concessionaire Operated) in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Get bear spray elsewhere very expensive there. Don't try to drive through the park to see Yellowstone in one day. It takes like 5-6 hrs just to do lower loop. Either take a few days to do both parks, staying at the Tetons, or camp in both parks. WiFi and phone service not so good. Restaurant food is pricey but usually can get a little WiFi in them.

Not your usual NP/NF campground. Kinda like "parallel parking" camping. I would not call them small loops along road, but more like spots to pull off camp ground road. The site itself with picnic table and fire ring are nice enough. Very busy while we were there yet staff were very pleasant and helpful. For those who like that early morning cup of Java be advised that quiet hrs. are till 8am. Would stay here again if no other NP/NF camp ground was available. We liked this campground. Yes, it is 1950's and the parking pads are in desperate need of resurfacing. The bath rooms have blue tile walls and ancient plumbing, but they have flush toilets and they worked. There are no hookups - you know that before you register. There is a dump and water. Store, gas, laundry and showers were within easy walking distance. I thought it was well worth the $21 ($10.50 with Golden Age card). I liked it better than the full hookup RV park next door. If you want full hook ups and fancy surrounding go next door to the RV park and pay $60 or stay in Jackson and pay $75. I would gladly stay there again. We camped at Colter Bay Village Campground -- No Hookups (Concessionaire Operated) in a Travel Trailer.

Just hated this place. You aren't given any choice in site selection. The site we got (O loop) was the farthest away from any services, and we were located directly across from the bathroom and dumpster. Note: sites aren't "sites"--they are simply pullouts on the roadside. This means any slideout you may have protrudes onto the road, and walkers (or unruly wild children) are mere inches from where you might be sitting in your dinette. And you're sitting inside because the aforementioned unruly children are riding their bikes THROUGH your campsite, despite your stern warnings not to. That's early evening. Wait till after dark when the teens come out and holler until 1AM or so. And then the babies start screaming in the bathhouse at 6AMas you're try to get some sleep. We asked the ranger the next morning if they ever patrol the campground. She stared at me blankly. Screw that; we forfeited our second night payment and skedaddled. We would never, ever stay here again. Ever. We camped at Colter Bay Village Campground -- No Hookups (Concessionaire Operated) in a Motorhome.

Infrastructure in this area is from the 1950's per staff, and in dire need of help. Too bad the GTLC has raised the rates again. Thank goodness for our discount passes. We were assigned a really bad site but allowed to find a better one. Still, too many big rigs along the road and running noisy generators most of the day. The campground had some kind of maintenance crisis one night and had to evacuate 4 of the loops. The the boiler went out in the Village laundry/shower house: so, no hot water there. Jackson Lake reservoir was drawn down, so the Colter marina was closed and boats gone in late August. Sad to see such disrepair. We camped at Colter Bay Village Campground -- No Hookups (Concessionaire Operated) in a Motorhome.

Basic campsite only for RVs. Drive-through site along the loop path in the woods; each site has a large place with table and BBQ. Shower facility far away from most of the sites, and only two showers per camper, per day included. Limited restroom capacity, but clean. No mobile, nor WiFi. Good price/quality. We camped at Colter Bay Village Campground -- No Hookups (Concessionaire Operated) in a Motorhome.
