This is a very large park with multiple campgrounds. We stayed at Sandy Point and had both electric and water. Our site was a somewhat unlevel back in with a dirt and scattered gravel surface. We had a nice view of the lake out of our back window. The campground was mostly empty so it felt spacious though if there had been units in every site it would have been close. The electric and water were well placed and worked very well. There are dumpsters scattered throughout the park. There was no OTA television. Verizon service was adequate but there was no AT&T. The children's play area looked as if it had been recently remodeled. The coal trains go by frequently but it is mostly a rumble as only a few sounded their horn. We took the dogs on multiple walks on trails around the historic CCC buildings. They are allowed almost everywhere in the park but not on the beach area by the lake. The price quoted included the $7 a day Wyoming Park fee. We were stay here again if we were in the area. We camped at Guernsey State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Historic Fort Laramie was about a 20-minute drive through two small towns which had fuel and grocery services as well as some restaurants. We did the audio tour of Fort Laramie which took about 2 hours and was extremely well done. Be sure and visit the Castle in the park. It has a huge stone fireplace which anyone can use and would be lovely in the evening

Originally had a no hookup site in Sandy Cove, called and changed the reservation to a W/E site at Sandy Beach. Process was very easy, simply asked if there had been cancellations, and the reservation agent was able to confirm there were, and moved me. Took maybe 5 minutes total. The campground itself was fine, a mixture of sites with trees along the lakeshore, and more open sites. I had one of the open sites. It was level and easy to access, though with no trees around, it did get a bit warm. Having electric was welcome, in that I could use the A/C. Dump station with water available at the entrance to the park. There's a lot to see in this State Park. It's very large and there are 13 CGs all around the lake. Some will accommodate only a few campers, others are larger. Lots of beautiful views of the lake, take the time to explore around it. Museum is nice, gives some good history of the area. Not far from the town of Guernsey, and the Oregon Trail Ruts. Also convenient to Fort Laramie NHP, which was fascinating and informative. Only problem is the CG we were in was very close to the railroad and trains that run through the area. Constantly. Coal trains running 24/7 on a regular basis. Major rail yard just outside of Guernsey on the east side, trains heading down to the power plant in Wheatland to deliver coal. One can hear the rumble of the trains all day and night. Fortunately there were no railroad crossings, so they were not blowing horns. If one can adjust to this rumble, it's a nice place to stay. Not the best state park I've visited but certainly nice enough for a weekend. And of you're in to water sports, the lake can certainly accommodate that, with more than a few boat launch areas. Countywide fire ban in place, so no campfires allowed. Rangers patrolled the area regularly and took care of those folks who disregarded the fire ban notice IN BIG LETTERS! We camped at Guernsey State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Even though this park is in Eastern Wyoming, where one would think it would be relatively flat, it isn't. There's lots of rolling hills enroute to the park, and the park itself has several somewhat steep roads to deal with and it's curvy and narrow. Certainly doable, just something to be aware of.

Our site was near the train tracks which concerned me at first; but it ended up as being a very minor nuisance. The camp ground is great! The state park is huge! It was a little dirty - I had to clean up our site when we arrived; but nothing terrible. We camped at Guernsey State Park in a Motorhome.

We really enjoyed our stay at this park. There are many areas within Guernsey to choose from. We chose Sandy Point Campground, and were very happy with the choice. It was quiet, and plenty of space between sites. There was a little play area for our children. Beautiful shoreline made for nice morning walks. We camped at Guernsey State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Mid-week in September, the place was practically deserted. We loved it. I can imagine it would feel a bit cramped if full (hence a few points off, I didn't want you to go in the summer and be disappointed). Great view of lake, great hiking/biking trails. The museum is spectacular; the information is presented in such a way that you can easily come away with new knowledge. The building and display cases are worth checking out even if you don't want to learn anything. ; ) There are three other CCC structures worth seeking out. We had a water + electricity site. We camped at Guernsey State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Yes, the coal trains are close at hand and there are only pit, albeit nice, toilets. However the price is right and the location is good for seeing the area sites. The trains did not keep me from sleeping and were interesting to see. Guernsey is small so bring your own supplies. Would stay here again. We camped at Guernsey State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

I would think with water sites available the state of Wyoming could install showers or sewer hook ups. The area was beautiful in spite of the lake being drained. Our site was level and we did take advantage of the water hook up sites. Some of the other campgrounds in the park were very nice, but had no electric or water. The park does have a dump station at the entrance. We will not stay here again. We camped at Guernsey State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Only one campground was open at our visit as the road over the dam was closed during the repair of the dam. The Museum was also closed. The road to the open camp ground is steep and near the railroad tracks. The toilets are dry chemical. I would not stop here until the lake has been refilled. We camped at Guernsey State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

First, it would be nice if the state of WY would update their campground information. The web page for this park says water is unavailable. In fact, water and electric are both very available. Second, it would be helpful if the state of WY would include a campsite map on their webpage showing the location and size of the campsites. Third, this reservoir had a terrible fire in June of this year so almost all of the trees are burnt. Lastly, the reservoir has been drained. All that said, I would go back but first I'd ask if there is water in the reservoir and I might wait a year or two for the vegetation to grow back. We camped at Guernsey State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Nice state park at Guernsey Lake, mostly frequented by weekenders. There are several campgrounds around the lake, but only one had hookups. The good: nice large sites by the water, good views, good fishing. The not-so-good: lots of bugs, sand burrs everywhere, unpaved roads with lots of dust, noise from passing trains. It would have been very loud if you were in a tent. Also there had been a wildfire earlier in the summer and large areas of trees were burned. We camped at Guernsey State Park in a Fifth Wheel.
