Overall Rating:

There's only two parks in this town, and this is the bigger one. Freeway and Train noise as one might expect, but not too bad. Park is very open and almost all sites are pull-throughs. 100% gravel, picnic table, and fairly well lit at night. Our site we chose was 30 amp, no water, no sewer, cable cost extra. Hence the low rate, which was fine, as we were just here for overnight. Site was level both directions, and on the West end, was long enough we didn't need to unhook 36 ft. 5th wheel. We camped at Western Hills Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

This second time we have stayed here and would again. Very large interior roads, and very large pull thru sites. Everything was easy in-easy out. No trees which is great. That means no, leaves, branches, scraped rigs, bird poop. Good ATT, excellent wifi, easy satellite set-up. Excellent clean, laundry. We camped at Western Hills Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Utilities always work well. We have stayed here many times when passing through the area, usually for an overnight. Staff friendly and efficient. This park is in the windy, dry southern Wyoming area and not conducive to landscaping so they do the best with what Mother Nature offers. Convenient on and off freeway. Fuel stations are convenient, diesel is only one exit away. Nice family restaurant within a short walk across the road. We camped at Western Hills Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

The historic Rawlins Prison museum is worth an overnight if you have the time. They also have a nice historical museum of the area and a decent movie theater. Walmart is close by, however, unhook- I think it would be difficult to navigate with a trailer or coach.

The park is a very large gravel lot. Friendly reception. Streets are the widest I've seen and the spaces are very wide. All spaces are pull through. The largest RVs will have no problems here. Wifi is very good. Several pet areas. There is a restaurant within walking distance. Some freeway and train noise but all the parks in Rawlins have that. We camped at Western Hills Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Good stopover spot in Rawlins. Basically a gravel parking lot, with some permanent residents on the backside. Quiet enough from the interstate highway. Bathrooms/showers were fine. Mojo Factor: none

The Dogs Opinion (it's all about the dogs): There were 2 tiny, tiny fenced in areas for the dogs. At least a place to go potty. Otherwise, you can walk around the park. Not a place to spend more than 1 night! There are plenty of exits off the interstate going west of here that you can stop at and walk the dogs on quiet dirt roads.

TV? I paid $2 for the cable and it was good

Cell phone/Wi-Fi? Good Verizon signal

Parting thoughts: for what's available in this town, the park was fine. Big rig friendly, easy to get around in the park. We camped at Western Hills Campground in a Motorhome.

As many have noted - it's all gravel. Can't expect a whole lot more out in the Wyoming desert where the biggest attraction is the old prison. It is though, definitely worth touring. Would deter most folks from doing bad deeds. We camped at Western Hills Campground in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

See the old prison. Also, I-80 truck stops have very high diesel prices - from $2.51 to $2.65. However, there are two fuel stations easily accessible to large RVs, on the street leading to the Park, where prices were $2.29 at each.

This is a gravel RV spot, but I don't think they can grow trees because of all the wind. The sites are level, nice pull-throughs. New tops on the picnic table. Large laundry room. Bathroom stalls are large and immaculate. Our spot #1 had excellent Internet. This is a great spot for 1-2 nights. There is not much to do in Rock Springs. We camped at Western Hills Campground in a Travel Trailer.

We stayed here four days while exploring the sites around the area. It is a very large gravel area and it does get windy. On the plus side it appears to be a relatively new campground and is well managed. It is close to downtown and has easy access to the interstate and the mountains. We would definitely stay here again for over night or a short stay. We camped at Western Hills Campground in a Truck Camper.

As noted in a previous review, beware of the low hanging power cable over sites 67-71. It is near the front of the sites so if you don't pull all the way in, you will not have an issue. I was in 67, the lowest part of the cable. My wife noticed the cable as we were pulling in and we stopped short. My neighbor in 69 did not see the cable and pulled in under it. When he raised his satellite dish it would have hit the cable had he been a couple of feet further back.
Miniature golf course on site. It needs some TLC but is fine to keep the kids busy for a half hour. First round is free.
Fine for an over night stay.
Great staff. We camped at Western Hills Campground in a Motorhome.

What a nice find this park was. It looks fairly new and is very clean and well kept. Friendly staff. Gave us a site right near the dog yard so made exercising dogs after a long day of driving easy. All gravel sites with very wide, easy to navigate roads. The only drawback is that the sites are fairly narrow. Since we stayed in the off season, just overnight, it was not a big problem. The other great thing is, that though it is just off the interstate it is set back far enough that noise is not an issue. There is also a nearby restaurant, Cappie's, that you can walk to. Nothing exciting but if you are tired and don't want to fix anything it will work! We camped at Western Hills Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

As appealing as a very large gravel lot can be. New picnic tables, fairly recent paint job by the looks of it, no trash, interiors look well kept up. As noted roads and sites (level) are gravel with plenty of room to maneuver. But, the water/sewer/electric row has utility lines running over it - if you run tall look up and for sure lower your antenna before leaving. WiFi very strong and fast (at our site near office) in an uncrowded park - one of the best I've seen. We camped at Western Hills Campground in a Motorhome.

We stayed in this park in a 45' MH. The entire park is gravel. The streets are very wide and easy to negotiate into any site in the park. We were 62' overall pulling our truck and we had no problem getting into our site. The utilities were fine and the wifi was okay. It is in a convenient location just of I-80. We were in site 69 and the cable TV cable was just inches off our roof. We had to take our extension rod and lift it up to pull out of our site so it did not hit our antennas. If you are a tall rig just be careful. I would stay there again. We camped at Western Hills Campground in a Motorhome.

This park is unusual in that the rates are set by what you want for your stay. For a quick overnight they offer electric only for $26 with a GS discount. This year the park was not as busy as we have seen in the past. We didn't need to make a reservation for a holiday weekend. Be aware that the office is closed between 11am and 2pm. You can use self check in then or after hours. Good WiFi. We camped at Western Hills Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Not much going on in Rawlins. Fuel prices downtown are significantly lower than on the Interstate. Diesel is 2.13 vs 2.64. They finally have a Walmart for those that care. However their parking lot is very small so don't count on grabbing a free night there.
