Excellent for overnight stay. Parking lot style but everything we needed. Level sites. Friendly staff. Gorgeous colorful landscaping in the otherwise desolate surrounds. We camped at Sweetwater Fairgrounds in a Motorhome.

Very easy check in. We were told to just find a spot and do whatever you have to do to park. Sites are very shallow so we back at an angle and took up two sites. Good power and water pressure. Site was not very level and I highly recommend using pads under your leveling jacks. Good Verizon cell and DTV signals. We camped at Sweetwater Fairgrounds in a Motorhome.

This is your typical fairgrounds campground/parking lot, with fresh, large, loose gravel everywhere. Sites are reasonably level. Sites are bordered on 3 sides by low fences, but they only extend about ten feet along each side. So it feels like you are sticking out into the road, but you aren't. Hookups are behind the sites, so you will need your full length of electric, water and sewer lines. Satellite TV service is excellent. There is no cable. They have many wifi networks (at least 10), but in site # W-100, none of them worked. ATT cell signal was fine. We checked in at the Campground Host (yellow house) toward the back of the campground. Cost was $25 per night, cash preferred. We camped at Sweetwater Fairgrounds in a Motorhome.

We really enjoyed our overnight stay at the Fairgrounds even though the bathrooms and showers were a mess. We came a few days after the end of the county fair and it was obvious that the rest rooms had not been cleaned since then. There was garbage on the floor and most of the rest rooms had no toilet paper. However, it was a great overnight stop. You check in with the caretaker who lives in a house down the road when entering the livestock gate. We told her we did not want to unhook the car ad just wanted to hook up to power. Since all of the sites are back in, she positioned us at the end of a row where we could stay hooked up and access power. It is a very large facility. There are over 700 RV sites. It was pretty empty when we were there. There are lots of places to walk the dog. It is easy access from I-80. Even though the rest rooms were messy, we enjoyed our stay there and will go back for an overnight stop. Just make sure there is not a large event going on there. We camped at Sweetwater Fairgrounds in a Motorhome.

Date of Stay: June, 2017 - $25.00

We stayed here overnight while passing through. Although there are 1200+ sites, only the small main campground section was open in mid-June when we visited. We arrived on a Friday which means events were happening at the fairgrounds (high school rodeo finals, and stock car race). The friendly caretaker took our money, pointed us to the north-west corner and said there should be a few empty spaces left in that area. We found some, but the campground was nearly full and was a mess with RVs, horse trailers, pickup trucks, ATVs, and more, parked randomly all over. Despite the number of campers there, noise was minimal.

We backed into a site (with our 37' motorhome sticking out into the lane) and had nowhere to put our tow car other than in the empty site next to us (much like everyone else did). The dirt roads had large ruts in them where they met the main campground road, which required some extra care when pulling out. Since the whole campground area is just gravel, found a grassy area around the main fairgrounds parking lot for our dog walks. Verizon worked pretty well, AT&T was slow.

This was an OK spot for an overnight, but we may have actually been more comfortable in the nearby Walmart parking lot for the night. Clearly the RV sites exist primarily to serve the rodeo participants and not travelers, so I understand the shortcomings of the location. I expect if there weren't events happening and the campground was less crowded, it would be a more reasonable spot for an overnight stop. We camped at Sweetwater Fairgrounds in a Motorhome.

Very good overnight stay. Basically a gravel area with individual sites fenced out. Utilities are behind each site so you may need long connections. Large sites with enough room to park beside your RV. Individual bathroom/shower facilities are very clean. When arriving, the caretaker came out to meet me and helped select a suitable site. No cable and TV reception was 4 channels on a HD antenna. Good level site. Probably one of the best places in this area. We would stay here anytime we are in the area. We camped at Sweetwater Fairgrounds in a Motorhome.

My husband and I visited Rock Springs for 2 days recently (musicians playing at a local bar) and stayed at the Sweetwater Events Complex since it was near where we were working. The complex is located in an industrial park area of Rock Springs, and the RV park section is huge: 1200+ sites, all back-in variety. Though a sports expo was going on that weekend, we needn't have worried about there being available spaces at all. Kay, the caretaker, was very kind about allowing us to park right next to the bath house, and gave us a discount because all we needed was electrical. As other posters have alluded to, the sites (gravel) were all level and the place was kept very clean. We particularly liked that the bath house featured individual toilet/shower facilities instead of one big room where you can see/hear/smell what the person 3 stalls down is doing. We were not aware that the park had wi-fi, but we were pretty busy the entire time, so we didn't need it. The biggest drawbacks to this facility is the lack of shade. I mean there's none whatsoever. No picnic tables or grills, either, but again, we weren't there to barbecue burgers and drink beer, so we didn't miss these amenities. From the looks of things, the majority of campers there were shift workers or expo participants who were gone during the day. Only one looked as though they were there to recreate and they had all the shade, grilling, etc. needs covered. If/when our travels bring us back to Rock Springs, WY, we would happily stay at this RV park again. We camped at Sweetwater Fairgrounds in a Truck Camper.

Tips for other Campers:

Bring your own canopy if you need/want shade. Spaces are given out on a first-come/first-serve basis by an on-site caretaker, except for during major events, phone the administrative office if your visit coincides with one. Gas stations located next to the complex; restaurants, cocktail lounges a little further away.

Chose this campground because of its price-service value. With FHU, level sites, easy access, you can't beat the price. Campground is huge, although parts of it are blocked off for the season. Of the 200 or so sites available, only a couple dozen were occupied. As other reviewers have said, the utilities are a bit oddly arranged, but we found them to be easily accessed, and they functioned fine. When checking in with the friendly on-site caretaker, she advised us to select any empty site, and, with our 38' motor home and toad, they were quite lenient in how we parked in the (normally) back-in sites. We angled in, taking up two spaces, and parking our car in a third space. When you first see the sites, it is true its a little confusing about how to hook up to the utilities, all located behind a fence, but it takes just a few seconds to figure out. I've added pictures to show the arrangement, and how we hooked up. Sites are all very level with shared utilities located between sites at the back (if you back in.) We don't really understand the complaints of other reviewers, especially when they are so lenient about how you park. The bathrooms and showers are very private, each located in a separate locking unit with shower, toilet and sink. We didn't use them, so I can't say anything about the temperature or force of water in the showers, but they were clean and modern, and we wouldn't have hesitated to use them. Located right next to the fairgrounds and events complex, you could walk to any public events scheduled there. There were no events at the speedway while we were here so I can't comment on any noise issues. We camped at Sweetwater Fairgrounds in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Golf course located next door is well kept and interesting. Nearest grocery stores are located about 4 miles away (2 exits away, exit 102, on I-80 with easy access) and include Smith's (Kroger), Walmart and Albertson's. Although the fairgrounds is in an industrial area, it is clean and neat with good roads. Gas stations located nearby, as are just a few fast food restaurants. Most fast food and shopping located at exit 102.

Rate reflects the price for one night with FMCA discount of 15%. This RV park is on the grounds of the Sweetwater Event Center; yes there are over 1200 sites most with full-hookups and 50amps. The roadways and sites are all gravel; some are more level than others and some wider than others. We figured the stretch to water and sewer for our site (P-155) was about 35' from the middle of our 40' motorhome. Only the front half of the campground is open at this time of year. Maintenance crew was shutting off the water at many of the sites as well. If the Caretaker is unavailable, you can check in at the Event Center office during business hours. We camped at Sweetwater Fairgrounds in a Motorhome.

FHU 50 amp site. As previous reviews have stated you would need a 50 to 30amp adapter since all the electric hookups seem to be 50 amp. Utilities are a fairly long run unless you take up 2 sites and pull in parallel to the fence. The fences seem to be in place to protect the hookups and there are cutouts approx 10 feet from the center of each site (in the corners) which is not terribly far to get to. Previous reviews mentioned a long walk but perhaps the complex changed the arrangement. From our panel on our 40' motorhome I would guess it was approx 30' for water, electric and sewer. All gravel sites, 200 available so we had no difficulty finding a place. Free WIFI was not mentioned anywhere and it worked well most of the time. Since the complex is large and wide open, you will be subject to the regular 15-20mph wind from the west so I would not recommend using your large awning here unattended. Some leveling required at the site. This complex is approx. 4 miles off I-80 so there is very little noise here. GPS may direct you to proceed about 1.5 miles further north on Yellowstone Rd. but the campground is just north of the main entrance to the Sweetwater Complex. We enjoyed the scenery so much we stayed 4 nights. We camped at Sweetwater Fairgrounds in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Highly recommend visiting the Flaming Gorge Recreation Area. It runs down Hwy 191 from Rock Springs and travels through Utah and then back up the west side of the Gorge. Visit the dam and enjoy the beautiful scenery. You probably should stop at the Chamber of Commerce beforehand and pick up a guide map so that you get full benefit of the information for the ride. We left our RV at the campground and drove the toad around the "loop".

We camped here a week before the fair. The park was almost empty. Entrance is just past the main entry to the north. Follow signs to the caretakers house in the group of trees to check in. The sites are back-in but was told that since we were just staying one night we could just parallel park. All utilities are at the back of the site behind what looks to be newer 2 rail wood fence, easy access to utilities. We camped at Sweetwater Fairgrounds in a Motorhome.

Good enough for one night. The set up is unique. The water and power is behind a small fence. We were told just to go out and pick a site that still had the utilities turned on. That was kind of a challenge, then we weren't sure as to the angle we were supposed to pull into the site. Saw no reason to have the water/power fenced in. Had to go around or over the fence. We camped at Sweetwater Fairgrounds in a Fifth Wheel.

I agree with the other campers. Be sure to have a 50/30 amp adapter, as my site didn't have a 30 amp plug. All gravel. Not quite level. At the edge of town. We will stay again. We camped at Sweetwater Fairgrounds in a Motorhome.

this place has so much potential, yet it is a difficult and inconvenient place to stay. the sites are gravel and not level, but the most difficult thing to deal with is the placement of the hookups. they are inside a fenced area, and you have to walk around to get to them. this could be solved easily if they would just cut a gap in the fence in each site. but the sewer and water are still a long distance and you need plenty of length. it was nice and quiet, and has a lot of potential if they would just do a few minor improvements. We camped at Sweetwater Fairgrounds in a Travel Trailer.

By far this is the best choice in Rock Springs (granted, depending on time of year). Traffic noise is minimum, which is a nice change. Registering is easy, the caretaker is very accomodating and good to work with. Spaces are plentiful. There is a definite wind coming in from the north so park so it has minimum effect on your stay. Site doesn't have cable but OTA received 2 channels and all was good. My Verizon Wifi picked up 4G with np. I'm tickled with the site for the price.
